The Dark Phantom::Book One: Growing Pains::Chapter 2
2ndAug
Green eyes peak open, squinting against the bright sun that dares disturb their sleep. They close once again as the jaw opens itself wide with a yawn. The small body stirs before finally deciding to move.
White tennis shoes with black highlights touch the floor, while a green sleeved arm comes up to rub the tired eyes. As the young child starts to move towards the door, a piece of white hair drops in his eyes. They widen, and he rushes to the mirror.
His breathing becomes rapid as he realizes that everything is wrong. His heart, pounding as he takes in the clothes from yesterday (the colors are wrong), the white hair, and the green, green eyes. The breathing stops.
No, NO! He should be breathing! His hair should be black, and his eyes blue. A white ring expands from his waist, encircling him. Then it splits, half going up and the other half going down. They reveal clothing, that same as yesterday, blue eyes and black hair.
He flops onto the floor, taking deep breaths. In-out, in-out. Eventually, his heart calms.
Knock Knock SLAM
A sigh. "Jack, now we have to replace his door."
A quick glance at the mirror, yes, his eyes are blue.
"Sorry baby, I just got so excited! DANNY-BOY, WE'VE BEEN ACCEPTED TO A GHOST HUNTING CONVENTION AND ARE DRAGGING YOU ALONG WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT!"
"Sorry, Danny-sweetie, but we can't just leave you and your sister at home. Not until Jazz is at least twelve. Therefore, we have to bring you and your sister along."
Danny blinks then nods, softly stating: "Okay."
She smiles. "You'll have all of next week to pack. We'll leave the Monday after. You need to pack for a week. Do you want any help?"
He shakes his head.
"THAT'S MY DANNY-BOY! TO THE LAB!"
The woman just shakes her head at the excitable man, already rushing down the stairs. She smiles then turns back to the child.
"I need to make sure he doesn't damage anything if you need any help packing go ahead and ask Jazz or me."
With that, he watches as she leaves his doorway and listens as her footsteps tread down the stairs.
Some time passes, and he heaves himself up. A quick glance to see black hair, then he dodges around the broken door. He pads his way down the stairs and into the kitchen.
"Spazzy?"
The young girl standing on a stool to reach the stovetop spares a quick look at the other child.
"Hi, Danny. Want some eggs?"
"Yeah!"
"Sit down, and they'll be done soon."
The chair scrapes against the floor as Jazz stands up.
"Are you done?"
He nods as she takes his plate and places both dishes in the sink.
"I'm headed to the park to meet a friend. Do you want to come?"
A shake of the head.
"Okay, see you later, little brother, and don't forget to grab some lunch!"
He watches as she leaves the room then hears the thudding of her footsteps as she rushes upstairs. He listens as she shuffles around, then her rushing back down. The front door opens then gets closed and locked. He can very faintly hear the adults moving around in the Lab, but other than that, the house is quiet.
He slips off the chair and walks to the back door. He reaches up and unlocks then opens it. Outside, he kicks the door shut behind him. Moving to the large maple tree that takes up a corner of the yard. He stands on his tippy toes and grabs the lowest branch. With that hand supporting him, he grabs the limb with his other hand when it feels like both arms are dumped in ice-cold water, and he drops.
After landing on his ass, his hands are brought up. He takes two loud breaths as he rotates the transparent images his hands make. One hand is dropped to the side, and he watches wide-eyed as it just ignores the ground.
When he brings his hand up, the feeling stops, and they become opaque once again. Both hands are dropped to his lap as he stares blankly at the wooden fence.
"Danny?" Jazz calls from the back door.
A head of black hair peaks down from the tree. She blinks.
"Are you hungry? It's almost dinner time, and it looks like mom and dad will be in the Lab all night again. I got some cheese for grilled cheese."
"Yes!"
"Why don't you come in to wash up. And get that branch of leaves out of your hair!"
A small boy pops his head out of his bedroom door. He glances left then right and slides out the door and down the dark hallway. The child almost seems to glide down the steps and to the front door.
He looks at the door, his head slightly tilted. Breathe in, breathe out. As his body dunks itself into ice water. For a moment, he is transparent, then he is not as he is pulled out of the ice water. He pouts. Again.
The ice water is back, and he steps through the front door, feeling a tingle as he passes. Once outside, he loses grip on the feelings and looks solid once more.
He shivers as he passes the first tree and into the forest. A bright light illuminates the surrounding trees as all warmth leaves him. The hair in his face, becoming the startling white. He frowns.
Choosing to ignore it, he wanders deeper in. He trips but does not fall. He hangs there, eyes widening, as though suspended by a string.
'Wha?'
His arms and legs flail, barely moving him an inch. A little fire darts out from behind a tree. Flashing many colors before settling on blue. The child is shaking. The light dances around one arm then the other, flashing many colors before once again becoming blue, in his face.
"Wha?"
More colors and tingling of wind chimes invade his thoughts. The feeling of desperation invades his body. Then emptiness as the light settles on blue.
"You want help? From me?"
The mimicry of a nod. The boy looks down, then tries copying the movements of swimmers from the TV. Danny feels a tinkling laugh as amusement floods him. He stops and pouts at the fire. Still pouting and just wanting to move. He is thrown forward, crashing into a tree. More laughter.
He gives a pouty glare at the light as it darts through some leaves and dances around. The child wants to catch that fire.
The game of tag leads them to a clearing where many other lights dance around and make a symphony of laughter. A man lays under a tree with red blossoming on his shirt. A scent is wafting through the clearing, the very same scent that came off Jazz' when she cut herself on a knife.
He frowns, then brightens as he heads over to the man and lifts him like he had seen heroes do in movies. The man lifts effortlessly. He looks at the blue light floating next to him.
"Now wha?"
The light dances around him and moves away. The other lights dance around them. Cutting between Danny and the blue one, then darting off to the side, matching the blue light.
When they break through the tree line, the other lights stop; they flash with angry colors, screaming protests, and pulsing anger.
The blue light leads him past a large building that says Health on it and follows a sign that says emergency. It stops in front of the door. Danny looks around then gently places the man on the ground and knocks on the frosted glass. He follows the little fire as it darts away.
They stop the very same spot that it began, and the light changes to a sunny yellow as chimes fill his mind, and gratitude floods him. Then the light darts quickly out of sight and vanishes before he could follow.
He lifts his hand.
´Bye Blue."
"A man was left on the steps of the emergency room sometime last night in a horrible condition."
Danny looks up to the TV from his cereal.
"he was found by the receptionist after he heard a knock on the door. Lance Thunder is with him now. Lance?"
Thanks, Tiffany. I am here with Jim Cruegar, the receptionist that was working last night. Can you tell us what condition you found the man in?"
"What we know right now is that he is lucky to be alive. He had multiple cracked ribs, a broken leg, and what looks to be a stab wound. He is unable to see visitors right now."
"Well, Tiffany, back to you."
"Thanks, Lance, and thank you as well, Mr. Cruegar. We will keep you posted as the story develops. In other news…"

"I hope they catch the bad people who did that."
Danny blinks at his sister.
"What? I don't want someone willing to hurt others running around."
He continues to look at her or more like the blue light dancing around her head.
Chapter Stats: 5 pages and 1545 words.
Yes, the timeline has changed. The biggest change (at this moment) is that Danny meets Blue about a week before the Convention rather than the day before they leave. Another timeline change is that Danny meets Blue at night rather than in the day.
I know the last chapter I said that will keep the reviews in the chapter they were originally found in, but then I realized that some chapters are gone and umm timeline changes so
-\(o_o)/-
So, let's do three chapters worth of reviews that were found about this part in the story.

Glad you like it, hope you continue to read it. Nothing else for me to say, so have a cookie.
*Update* Hope you like this version as well!

There's nothing wrong with it, there's just not enough.
I did not expect to get a review like this. This was ment to get people to see where it's going besides I wrote and posted it in half and hour…

From what I can tell this is good. It seems like clockwork watches over Danny continuously, but make the next chapter longer okay.
Well it's longer. Like I said it was wrote in less then half an hour, this took me minutes to plan out, then I started to read a series and got an idea on how to start this chapter. I am pretty sure the next chapter will be shorter, then again maybe longer.
Previous Chapter 2 (An Adventure; current chapter one)
Awsome Name
Dude this is great! Props to you! I really like it. I really like option number 3. I am also super excited to know where this is going. 3
Thanks person! I'm glad you like it! Thanks for responding to the options. Here have a cookie! I still have very little idea on where this is going beyond that though…I just know that time skips are going to be a thing. I do know that I want this story specially to be the years before ten, so nine and under. I am hoping to have other stories that make a series after this one though.
Previous Chapter 3 (What is Possible?; removed)

This chapter is good but I noticed some spelling errors. It's uknown not unkwon that's the most noticable one and I can't spot anyother without thoroughly reading it again so they should be okay.
I am so sorry that I didn't notice your review before I posted the last chapter. I did change it, but you might want to check your own spelling. Though why I spelt it like that is because usually when one negates something the prefix is un- I forgot temporally how to spell known.
I suck at spelling, it's my weakness when writing and I had forgotten to use spellchecker on that specific part before I posted.
*Update* I just realized how passive-aggressive this sounded, sorry 'bout that.
Mr Zombi
I'm most likely late to vote but, can it be 1. With Tucker being Danny only friend and Sam being popular. Also love this Book. can't wait to see what happens next.
I'm sorry if I made that confusing, you still have a week to vote. Thank you for telling me that you love my story! Have a cookie.
So previously there was a vote on Danny's friends that ended up becoming option three: Tucker is the president of the Tech Club and Sam is popular. Danny finds a friend in a crazy mechanic but spends school as a dark loner that gets picked on or avoided.
Other than that, same week update! I'm bored with the whole COVID-19 virus causing a stay at home order. Six weeks of schooling online and not leaving the house…
