The Dark Phantom:: Book One: Growing Pains:: Chapter 6

Aug 29th

"Em, are you going back into your mermaid phase again?" Julia calls upfront as she looks at all the tabs open.

"WHAT?"

She picks up a book about mermaids on the desk and walks to the front, where Em is working on a vehicle. "Why are you doing research on mermaids? I thought we finally got you out of that phase?"

"No reason," Emily says as she looks anywhere but at Julia.

"Ok, whatever, I'm not posting your bail."

"The one time." She mutters as she goes back to work.

Aug 30th

"EMILY! IF YOU START SUMMONING DEMONS, I'M DISOWNING YOU!"

A head pops into the room, "What's this about disownment? I can't hear you over your yelling."

The other woman glares at her, "You better not be summoning demons."

She jerks back and brings her hands up in surrender, "No, no, I'm doing research for … reasons. Unfortunately, I'm having issues finding what I'm looking for."

An eyebrow raises at her, "For reasons. I'm not going to dig for both our sakes, but demons? No, don't answer that. Good luck finding what you're looking for." She pauses for a moment, "But If I hear one thing about demons being summoned, I will be the first to haul your ass off to jail."

The other woman starts to raise her finger in protest, then lowers it. "That's fair."

Aug 31st

"You are a hard one to find squirt."

The child cocks his head at her with a slight frown, wondering where she is going with this.

A sigh, "You are upset with me, aren't you? One moment I see the crazy hyper child I'm familiar with; next, I see a floating white-haired child. I'm sorry." She looks away for a moment, 'Sorry for running, sorry for fearing what I don't understand.' She glances back at him to see his reaction.

The child thinks for a moment, then states, "Ok."

"Hugh?"

The child pouts, "Ok."

She starts to laugh, "You are very forgiving." Then becomes somber, "Do you like being like that?"

The child's head tilts again, then after a moment, he nods.

"Oh! Ok, good cause I don't think it's reversible. Then again, I know nothing about magic, even with all my research. Not that it matters because you like being like that… I'm going to shut up and stop digging myself into a deeper hole."

Chapter Stats: 2 pages 400 words.

This mainly had been chapter ten. Yes this is a shorter chapter.

Thank you for the small time skips, it really feels like the story goes a little faster. Also this chapter didn't really have a creep factor to me but you are doing awesome with the story. Plus you finally introduced the mechanic and I think she's cool but feels like she is now wary of Danny (I thought she was going to be more supportive when she found out). Also Danny disowning his parents (what can I say they deserved it) was spot on.

Thank for telling me all of the above! I did not intend for her to seem that way, so I did try to amend it this time around. Then again if you had met someone not even a month ago wouldn't you be a little wary of them if you found out they were not all that they seem. I am trying to get this story going faster and oh well about the creep factor.
