Red Rides And Retribution
A/N: I'm sorry about the extremely long break. I changed jobs, and had to settle down first. I will try write regularly.
Chapter five
Lisbon sat in the back of the bar, deep in thought. Her meeting three days previously had turned up nothing. The entire gang had been there, but nothing had materialized. She was frustrated. Sure one of her men was lying to her, she took a long drink of her beer and shut her eyes. When she had opened them again, Rigsby was standing next to her. "Teresa, we can't go on like this."
Lisbon stood up and led the way to her back office. As Rigsby shut the door, she turned to face him. "Rigger," she said. "We can't find who is making these hits. What will the men say if I can't control them?"
Rigsby put his hand on her arm. "Boss, they know you would fight to the death for what is yours. That is all that matters."
Lisbon nodded and touched the gun on her hip. She pulled the phone out of her pocket and dialed a number. She looked up at Rigsby, who nodded and left the room. She pulled out her gun again, and began to pace.

Jane sat in his living room, overlooking the north of the city. The sun was beginning to set in the west, casting long shadows across the high rise buildings. He had a glass of whiskey in one hand and a book in the other. Three days had passed, and he had never felt less useful. The mandatory leave was killing him, and he had found himself with nothing to do. The cell phone next to him rang, and he jumped. The whiskey sloshed dangerously, and he set it down next to him under the lamp. He answered the call. "Patrick Jane."
"Mr Jane," said a familiar voice on the other end of the line. "Good to speak to you again."
Jane put the book down and sat up. "Teresa Lisbon?"
Lisbon laughed. "Patrick, I have some news."
Jane felt his stomach knot. "Do you care to share?"
Lisbon shook her head. "Not over this line, Mr Jane."
Jane had a thought. "What about a restaurant up town?"
Lisbon felt her eyebrows rise. "What did you have in mind?"
Jane smiled and gave Lisbon an address. "Six p.m. How would that suit you?"
Lisbon smiled. "See you there."
She hung up the phone and stood up from her desk. She headed to the door. "Rigger, Heartbreak, Wrench, I need you."
The three men came over to her. She stepped back and allowed them into the back office. Lisbon explained the situation, and the men didn't look happy. "Boss," said La Roche. "I don't feel comfortable with this."
Lisbon looked at him. "Wrench, you know my lines are tapped by the cops."
La Roche nodded. The plan was ironed out, and the four of them left the bar. Lisbon led the way to her scarcely used flat in order to prepare for her meeting later.

Jane straightened his tie and buttoned his vest. He was standing outside the swanky up market restaurant, waiting for the arrival of Lisbon. A long black car pulled up, and a tiny woman in a long dark green dress climbed out. Jane felt his jaw drop when he realized it was Teresa Lisbon. The dress was strapless, and hugged her curves that were usually hidden below bulky black leather. It dropped to the floor, and Jane could just see a hint of black heel peering from below the hemline.
Lisbon smiled when she saw Jane. A dark three piece suit was quite becoming on him, and she could see why many women were eyeing him out as they entered with their own dates. Lisbon looked up into Jane's face, and smiled again. "Shall we, Mr Jane?"
Jane held out his hand, and pulled the gang leader closer to him. "I expected more men around."
Lisbon leant in. "there are some of my men here. I am a high profile target. But as long as we are in public, we should be okay."
Jane nodded and the two of them headed inside to the front desk. Jane only then realized Lisbon had a jacket over her arm. As she handed it in to the clerk, Jane could see that it was the black leather jacket.
Jane handed over his own suit jacket, and the two of them were led through to their booth. After the waiter left with the drinks orders, Jane looked at Lisbon. Her hair was tied into a low bun, slightly to the side, and her makeup was perfect. She raised an eyebrow. "Are you surprised, Mr Jane?"
Jane smiled. "You clean up nicely."
Lisbon smiled back. "You're not too bad yourself."
After a small amount of casual small talk, Jane looked at Lisbon. "You said you have news for me."
Lisbon nodded. "I asked around. My second in command, he knew your wife, but he didn't think we had done it. That was confirmed by several contacts. Hell, I even spoke to Grace Van Pelt about it. She was Angela's hairdresser. She remembered the incident, but didn't think it was gang. She took your wife's photo, and showed the leader of the Blood Guns. Cho also knew the incident, but it wasn't them either."
Jane just listened. "So, you're saying that it wasn't a gang killing?"
Lisbon nodded. "I wouldn't trust the police who told you that. A lot of them are too scared to even run their usual routes through the areas we operate in. And a lot of them can be bought off with not much."
Jane nodded. He remembered the officer well who had told him it was a gang hit. "Well, Teresa, now that business in out the way, shall we enjoy ourselves?"
Lisbon nodded, and the two of them sat and chatted about a large variety of topics. The evening service drew to a close, and Jane helped Lisbon to her feet. "You never did strike me as a heels kind of woman."
Lisbon scowled. "They are really quite uncomfortable. But I didn't think riding boots would go down well in a place like this."
Jane laughed as they got to the door. The clerk handed back their jackets, and Jane helped Lisbon into hers. The car was waiting for them at the end of the block. Jane had caught a taxi to the restaurant, and Lisbon was giving him a lift back to the apartment. Halfway down the block, two men passed them. They had had a little bit to drink, and were talking loudly. One made a passing comment at the couple, and both men laughed. Lisbon just rolled her eyes, and ignored the men.
"Hey, you." One of them called. "What's he got that I don't got?"
Lisbon sighed. "A bit of class for a start." She muttered under her breath.
Jane laughed. "Does that happen often?"
Lisbon rolled her eyes. "More than you'd think."
The two men had stopped and turned. They were now behind the couple, and were following them back down the street. One of them spotted the emblem on the back of Lisbon's jacket, and laughed. "The chick thinks she's tough, wearing biker colours around here."
Lisbon almost froze. She had forgotten about the emblem emblazoned on her back. The other man laughed with him. "Maybe she wants to be part of the gang too."
Lisbon stopped and turned, coming face to face with the two men. They were still laughing, and Jane wondered what this woman would do. If only they knew she was a hardened killer, he thought, fearing for the safety of the two men.
One of them foolishly tried to grab her arm, and things happened so quickly Jane could barely register what exactly had happened. Rigsby and Pike appeared out of nowhere. They grabbed the men. Lisbon and Jane were ushered into the car as a fight broke out on the street. La Roche floored it, and the sound of bikes behind them a few moments later confirmed that half of the gang had been looking after the boss. Jane watched the scene disappear behind him, and then watched the police cars speed around their car towards the scene. Jane could only hope everybody had made it out alive.
