Chapter 2: How can you see through my eyes
I forced myself up from the corpse and sprinted across the snow. The harsh wind blurred my dry eyes. It was harder to run through the snow and more tiring. I felt as if my lungs would explode as I gasped tired breaths.
Slowing down I leaned against a tree, trying to control my panting. Up ahead I caught sight of light, a fire. Along with a wooden entrance with sticks poking from the ground with skulls and beads hanging from the frozen, oak tree's.
I even caught sight of dark figures on horses racing out of the entrance. They looked like humans, but weren't.
So sure, I knew that this was the place I needed to go.
I felt too tired. My legs were sore, I was freezing too death, my clothes wet so damp as I was soaked from head to toe.
Relief flowed through my veins like blood as I made slow steps to the figures on the horses. I coughed as I shivered and looked up at the figures in the darkness as the light from the for torches luminated on them.
The relief stopped as I realized what the figures were and I stepped back.
"Oh my god..." I muttered, but such powering fatigue took over me as I almost limped to the ground, but felt such a strong embrace hold me up. I was about to scream and run off, but such piercing ice, sapphire eyes put me in a trance that made me feel safe.
The ape was young, and had such a human, like face it was handsome to not look at. Though a scar was embedded under his left eye, and still looks as if it were healing, judging by the redness.
"Elena, are you insane!?" He exclaimed in a hushed voice that made my spine shiver,
"What are you doing out here? How did you get here?" He kept asking as he took off a light white, gray pelt off his shoulders and placed it around me.
I wasn't afraid anymore.
"E-Elena?..." I repeated back in a hoarse voice, as I tried to keep my eyes focused on his. I was probably delusional though, apes don't talk, and they certainly don't make you have such a breathtaking feeling over you as well.
"Get her to your mother, and Piper, quick" Another voice ordered as the blue eyed ape nodded and lifted me in his arms.
Before I know it, I turned my head slightly at the flash of lights.
"Lena!" A few voices called, and I caught sight of the woman and man I saw across the bridge when I first woke up. I immediately started to panic and wiggle my way out of the blue eyed apes arms.
"Lena! Lena its okay, we're not going to hurt you" The ebony haired woman soothed, "Do you know who I am?".
I glanced at her hazel eyes, and I took notice of other people that were around I quickly shook my head.
"Am I suppose to?" I managed to squeak out.
"She's freezing to death, god your going to get hypothermia!" The woman pointed out as I dug my face deeper into the crook of the furred neck.
Before I knew it I was taken to a hut that was incredibly warm.
Fatigue begun to take over me again as I passed out.
Next Morning, Ape village~
"Shoo! You little monsters shoo!".
I was awoken to the sound of a voice, my head beating, the same light ringing in my ears. My eyes found two young apes staring at me with such curiosity.
I swallowed my surprise as I felt my flesh creep at the surprise of the two young apes.
At this point I was seriously wondering that I am probably delusional, mad for that matter.
"Lorenzo! Milo! Shoo!" A female ape spoke as she grabbed hold of the two young apes who complained.
"But Rory!" The two young apes were taken out of the hut, and I glanced around the room as I saw my not wet clothes were thrown over a hearth to dry. I looked down and saw fur pelts covering me as I was just in a tank-top and gray sweat pants. To my left I saw my backpack as I quickly reached for the pocketknife and tucked it behind me as the female walked in.
The female ape was perhaps smaller than me, had the appearance of a chimpanzee. She contained light brown fur that was blended well with an ebony black and actually made it to where she had an auburn fur tone. Her skin was light tan in the light of the hut, and her fur was clean and pushed back. Her eyes were what amazed me, ivy green of flecks of gold and brown.
She even contained a dark brown pelt wrapped around her chest and shoulder's that was speckled with light brown. Bits of her fur behind her ears even had beads that were braided of colors orange and green.
My first instinct was to trust her as I dropped the pocket knife to my side, and she cocked an eyebrow at me.
"Guess Blue Eyes was right about your Amnesia" She made gestures with her hands, and I stepped back surprised. I knew sign?
To try it out I begun to sign "Where am I? Why am I here? Is this reality and not a dream?" I signed a bit frantic, and she laughed lightly, which symbolized that she was very young, around my age probably.
"Yes, this is reality, and you were walking around in the snow last night so Blue Eyes brought you here and your in the village. Also, your friend Hope didn't want you to run off again".
I ran my hands through my hair as I sighed irritable.
"How do you feel?" She asked quietly, and I laughed mockingly.
"My head's exploded and it feels like their is a steam hammer in my chest!" I announced as I rubbed my temple.
"Just relax Lena...".
"Is that my name? Lena" I asked as I turned to her and she nodded.
"Do you..know me?" I looked at her, studying her face.
"Yes, we met a few weeks ago, the day you got attacked by the mountain lion, it's me Rory" She signed, looking at me with such worry, and I immediately looked at the scars on my shoulder and calf.
"So the people I saw, they didn't do this?" I asked firmly as I pointed to my shoulder and calf "No! Of course not, last night Hope said you were hysterical running from the Colony that you panicked. I believe that you probably thought of that, and for you memory loss her and another woman named Ellie explained that you were slammed into a wall with such force head first".
I swallowed a tight lump in my throat as I looked around and I faced her "Can I go out?".
Rory looked unsure though "Let me ask Cornelia and my mother first, and the others you saw last night are here as well" As of that Rory disappeared behind the vine curtain.
Turning I saw a speckled faced ape, with dark gray fur, and bright green eyes who had wraps around his arm and leg as he sat up.
" 'Sup Lena Beana!" He signed, ecstatic as he smiled big. I nodded my head towards him " 'Sup...?".
"It's Ash, Lena" Ash replied back, and I did a brief nod and I faced the clothes that were over the hearth "I'm just gonna change..." I began awkwardly as I stood behind another curtain that shielded the fur's I was asleep in.
I got dressed in the clothes from yesterday, and I was about to slip on the backpack until two other apes walked in and I crossed my arms firmly across my chest. The first ape that walked in took my breath away. She was beautiful, she contained glossy, charcoal black fur tinted of midnight blue, and pale tanned skin. She looked feminine as well, and there were beads braided in her fur. Along with beaded, twigs that were hooked onto her ears. I swear her eyes were the brightest green i've ever seen.
The second ape was smaller than her. Her fur blended well with dark crimson, and light brown. Her skin was tanned, and her eyes were an emerald green of light green flecks. Over her shoulder was a wolf skin bag, and was wearing a fur pelt over her shoulders that was a cream, white stained with old blood, and mud. On her neck was a necklace of thinned, carved bones dyed to an orange, yellow color.
"Damn Ash, you're supposed to be resting" Rory signed, as she bent down and wrapped her arms around the speckled ape's neck and kissed him on the forehead. Ash looked at her lovingly.
"Aw, you love me" He replied as he gave her a light peck on the lips and laid back down.
"Thank goodness, you seem better Lena" The charcoal black ape gleamed a beautiful smile, as she placed the palm of her hand on my head and face "Blue Eyes will be glad, he stayed watching over you last night".
"Um...who are you two exactly? and whose Blue Eyes" I asked polite at the most.
"Cornelia, we met the next day you woke up from the lion attack, and this is Piper, she helped Julia with your scars" Cornelia began, "Blue Eye's, you two met each other a few weeks ago and you two are quite close" She added with a gleeful smile "He's the ape that brought you last night".
"The one with the blue eyes?" I asked, and both her and Piper grunted in confirmation.
"You're better to go back to the Colony now" Piper signed, and I quickly shook my head.
"No, I don't want to go to that city again" I didn't know why I exactly felt like that, but I felt as if I needed to be here "Can I stay here longer? Please?".
Piper and Rory looked to Cornelia who smiled sweetly "Of course! You're always welcomed here Lena!".
"Right...Lena..." I repeated as I looked down and quickly walked past them. As soon as I felt the cool wind hit my face, many apes were present; Chimpanzee's, bonobo's, orangutan's, and heck even gorilla's.
I tightened my fists, and began to walk down a path. Keeping my head high, I then caught sight of a group of humans and I hurried my pace.
"Lena!" A girl with such wild, curly red hair exclaimed as she hugged me tightly. I tensed up by the hug, as I gasped, this felt to familiar.
"Good to see ya Lena" A voice said, and I caught sight of the man I shoved out of the way to go across the bridge.
I sucked in a breath as I looked at all of them "Who are all of you?" I asked firmly.
"Malcolm, Ellie, Alexander, Hope, Tanner, Delia, and myself Julia" The curled haired girl announced as she pointed to the people and herself.
"Come on, you gotta remember me Lena" Delia spoke up as she walked up to me, ebony thick hair that reached below her shoulder's. Pale, porcelain skin, and such odd colored amber eyes.
"Remember? We've became friends last year, gave you a black eye, both of us are top of our Junior class in hand to hand combat" I glared slightly at her.
"Does everyone expect me to remember my past right away, I feel as if I'm trapped in the present right now. My head is like a steam hammer that won't stop beating, and beating and beating!" I turned as I gripped my head, it was true. My head would not stop beating.
"Lena, my god your becoming hysterical" The woman, Hope, said as she placed her hand on my shoulder and I tensed at her touch.
"I just want to forget about my past, and memories for now, I will know what's real soon" I began "As of that, why..." I didn't know what to ask. So many questions ran through my mind.
I know my name.
I know where I am.
But why is the world like this? I think remembering something would be the least of my worries if I'm living in a world like this, but...i'm not sure what choice to make. Do I focus on regaining my memories? Or worry about the kind of world i'm in?
"Look, let's just get you something to eat" Malcolm spoke and I nodded brief. I was terribly hungry though, I felt as if I hadn't ate for days. I didn't even touch the dry meats that were in my backpack, and my stomach ached to the sound of food right about now.
I wanted to go inside the huge hut alone, and I made my way around the huge room. A heavy stone was heated containing meats, and another slab of stone contained all sorts of nuts, and dry berries. I picked up of what looked like a wooden plate, and took my ration of; A few pieces of cooked rabbit, a strip of elk, and nuts and even a lot of the dried berries. I walked back out into the harsh, winter cold. Many of the apes here didn't seem startled by my presence or the other humans. I also apologized to the group of people about my sudden, hysterical outburst, and that...I would like to be reminded of some things of my past.
"Elena?" I turned my head as my mouth was stuffed with nuts, and I swallowed quick.
It was the blue eyed ape from last night, named Blue Eye's. His name was literal, but it seemed to fit.
"Oh Elena..." He hugged me tightly, and I felt myself relax in his warm, embrace. His left arm was scarred up that led to his hard chest, and he seemed taller. My god his eye's wanted to make me fall to my knee's. I felt relief flow through my veins like blood all over again.
"I know, you may not remember me, but I remember you" I cocked my head at him.
"Were we best buds?" I asked majorly confused, and he chuckled lightly.
"Yes, but it became much more than that. Soon, you'll find out" He made a crooked smile that made him even more handsome.
Oh boy...
Am I majorly crushing on an ape I don't even remember?
Nah, i'm probably kidding myself, so I just patted him on the shoulder in a friendly manner.
"Well it's nice to see you too" I commented, giving Blue Eyes a sheepish smile.
Stay tuned for Chapter 3!
P.S. Just saw the new trailer for WftPOTA's and OMG! it's amazing! I can't wait to see more of Caesar and his family, plus the little girl Nova.
I do suggest though rereading 'Story of My Life' Made some changes to that, also would love some reviews about both stories!
