The evening was thus far uneventful for Edward, the day had passed by with a haze and Edward found himself not really focusing on anything...

Occasionally throughout the day he shared glances with his siblings, the looks he gave indicated he didn't really want to be bothered by anything, the telling look on Bella's face at various times revealed that she was concerned for him but kept her words reserved for Alice and Jasper only.

Radio on low in the background, sounds of "Hold Your Breath - Chase Atlantic" playing a lull in the background Edward was sitting just outside the floor length sliding glass doors on the terrace that presented itself as a black slab in the moonlight…

The weatherized wooden planks giving a dark and glossy shine with the limited light from inside; the last thing Edward wanted to hear was Alice approaching, she came down from the rooftop making almost no sound on approach, maybe she was sorry? Sorry for the teenage debacle that caused Edward to make his presence scarce throughout the day…

He let loose a small sigh while sitting down with knees bent and arms resting comfortably he didn't even turn a glance to Alice as she landed and walked up from behind… She let loose a small breath, exasperated with thoughts on the dilemma, the embarrassing confrontation that happened earlier between herself, Bella and Jasper…

Edward in one fluid movement was on his feet approaching her space fast and with a look and cold tone that made her flinch he quietly asked,"What are.. you doing.. Alice? You think –"

"Listen, I know that we had some… words, earlier this morning and that's something that I really want to discuss with you but…" she didn't have a chance to finish as he chided in again,

"What, Alice, you know how I feel about" he said trailing off, head turned a little to the side in a sorrowful manner "Yet you press Alice, why are we drilling this into the ground? Again?" smacking his right hand into his left in a manner of frustration as he emphasized the word 'drilling'

...Everyone knew Edward didn't just give his love away, and although things were just starting with Jacob he still felt the hurt of Bella's actions.

Alice was about to provide a quick response when she stopped suddenly, her and Edward both turning at the same time to look outside at the figure on the ground, it was Bella standing there awkwardly with a left hand in her pocket, the right contained her Samsung, the phone screen still on as she just hung up with someone…

"H-hey um, I'm just gonna, go…" she said, motioning to the road with her phone to the both of them on the terrace, "Just need to check on Charlie he sounded stressed out, I guess there was an attack or fight or something out on the rez, he didn't give many details but he wanted to make sure I wasn't there."

Edward's face was stoic when she mentioned the location, animal attack? fight?! Reservation? Jacob.

"Hey, let me drive you, I… look nothings going to change what's happened" Edward said, giving looks between Bella and Alice, "I'll keep my distance but I want to make sure Jacob is alright."

Bella let out a scoff and a shake of her head while she raised her phone and started tapping… "God, Edward you are just so… Here, let me just check for you…"

Shaking her head in an 'I-cant-believe-him' manner, chewing softly on a piece of gum mouth half opened with a smirk that slowly faded to one of serious as Jacob never answered.

Edward and Alice heard his voicemail pick up; even though the phone wasn't on speaker they knew… "Bella?" Alice asked, questioningly…

"Hm, no, you know what I'm sure everything's fine, he's probably just taking a shower or something you know school starts early for them…"

Jake may have been annoying at times but he was still Bells-Best-Buddy and she did care for him, so the slightest thought he could be in any trouble, well, the look on her face relayed that and Edward had already jumped down from the open wooden terrace, Alice wanting to follow but deciding to give her brother some space, she knew he had other things on his mind right now and clearly, obviously their three way fuck up was the last thing he wanted to think, or talk about.

"Let me grab my keys" Edward said, eyes locked towards the woods that led to the reservation, and Bella gave him a no argument look as she nodded moving up the driveway to the passenger side of the silver Volvo…

AN: I know I all but forgot about this story, I've been doing a lot of reading and thinking and searching wanting to cement just how to move this story forward... I'd love ideas, I had to go back and re-read what I wrote because it had been so long, I guess that was inspiring because I legit wrote this today at the office! uploading what I have before I take off, but in a serious manner I'm getting back into this, there are about 3 ways the next chapter can go... Clearly this was a "meanwhile back at the Cullen house..." interlude ;)

"Spirit Cold – Tall Heights" Go and give them a listen!
