The Appointing of the Nine Apostles

1 Byakuren went up on a mountainside and called to herself those she wanted, and they came to her. 2 She appointed eight to be apostles, that she might send them out to preach 3 and to have authority to drive out demons. 4 These are the eight she appointed: Murasa (whom she affectionately called "Captain"); 5 Ichirin, daughter of Kumoi; Nazrin (whom she gave the title of "Little Dowser General"); 6 Nue, Yoshika, Kyouka, Mamizou, 7 and Kogasa Tatara, who betrayed her. As some did not look human, Byakuren bade that they serve her in secret, so that they all might continue helping youkai, unbeknownst to the humans.

Byakuren and Devils

8 Then Byakuren entered a house and again a crowd gathered against the wishes of the property owner, so that she and her disciples were not even able to eat. 9 When her family heard of this, they went in a panic to take her back home, nervously saying, "She's out of her mind! Please ignore her!" They feared that even her preaching peace between the races would be enough to earn the villagers' ire.

10 And teachers of Taoism who came down from the Hall of Dreams' Great Mausoleum said, "She is a con artist! It is by cooperating with the devils does she cast out devils!"

11 So Byakuren called out to them and spoke to them in parables: "How could a devil drive out a devil? 12 If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 13 If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 14 And if a Koakuma opposes a Koakuma, even less work will get done; her end working that job will have come. 15 If one were so inclined, one could enter her house and tie her up while she were in this state and would carry off her possessions easily. 16 This is the state to which the Little Devil would be driven if she were set against her own kind, so how could I cast out devils by devils?" 17 The Taoists were confused by Byakuren's rebuttal and rendered speechless thereby, which the crowd took as Byakuren triumphing over them. 18 The noble disciples of Byakuren then drove away these Taoist teachers with jeers and threats, for their might was far greater than anything those slanderers could hope to overcome.

As it is written, anonymous person wanting a continuation: "Ask and ye shall receive." I've switched to using the NIV version as the basis for my half-assed adaptation. Chapter 4 already in the works. I guess I'll continue this project as a way to kill time this summer.
