A collective sigh of relief could be heard all around town that day. Finally, the rain had ceased and with no clouds in sight, it was looking to be a pleasant and warm day. Downtown was especially busy and bustling with excited shoppers and eager business owners ready to sell their wares. The rain had also revived the many shrubs, plants, and grasses that lined the street. The roses in front of the new French patisserie were as vibrant as ever and even the usually sad looking cactus outside of the bookstore looked as if it had been born anew.
Everyone who walked the old, cobblestone street that day could tell there was a distinct change in the atmosphere. No matter where you turned there were smiles, hugs, and people just enjoying the company of others. Hera always loved days like this. From all her people watching experiences up at her window, she liked the days like this where she was happy to call this hectic, unusual place her home.
She sat outside her mother's shop, lounging in an old loveseat her mother couldn't bear to get rid of. It made an even more perfect spot for people watching, albeit less privacy of course. She felt a slight tug on her hair and winced a bit, making her look at the woman who sat behind her.
"Ah I'm sorry did that hurt? I'll be gentler. I promise." Sakura said, obviously feeling embarrassed. Sakura had been studying how-to videos on hairstyles for curly hair lately, and her new mission was some sort of braid that involved physics and trigonometry. At least that's what it seemed like to Hera considering all the notes and drawings Sakura had about it in her Sanrio pocket journal.
Hera simply smiled at her lover and leaned over to give Sakura a quick peck on her cheek. She waited to turn around until she saw the inevitable reddening of the Japanese woman's cheeks and heard her quiet scolds about public indecency and saving things for later.
Hera closed her eyes and let the comfort of Sakura's fingers combing through her hair take over. She honestly couldn't have dreamt up a more idyllic scenario even if she tried.
Across the street, a slightly irate Turkish woman sipped her cappuccino while definitely not staring at the two lovebirds across the way.
"I feel like calling the police. I mean this sappy shit should be illegal in public. Right?" She asked to the rest of the patio.
Feliciano sighed and put his hand over his heart. "I think its adorable! Young love is so precious. I wish I had what they have... What about you Ludwig?"
The German businessman unfortunately had taken a rather large bite of his panini when Feliciano asked and began turning a sick shade of blue and coughing violently. Feliciano immediately rushed over to help the man which somehow only worsened the coughing. From the other side of the patio, Arthur shook his head as he sipped his tea.
"I only hope this romance doesn't get in the way of her studies." He quipped, while perusing what seemed to be the magna carta based on size and dustiness.
"Oh, come on Artie my dude, don't be lame! By the way try our new Bacon Maple Hot Dog. It's the bomb dot com." Alfred and Matthew came gliding over by the patio wearing what most likely were ridiculous custom Heelys shoes. Matthew had a sample tray of their new delicacy which random passersby couldn't wait to grab a piece of as the smell wafted through the air.
"First of all, that is disgusting. Second of all you reek of hot dogs. Third you need to understand personal spa…"
Hera watched the hilarious scene unfold from her comfy spot with amusement and glanced back at Sakura who was also intrigued by the street's curious usuals. Hera had learned that Sakura also enjoyed people watching and it was an activity they liked to do together besides many other things.
The bells from the church down the way clanged loudly to signal a new hour and Hera languidly got up and stretched. She looked at Sakura who was now brushing her own hair and admired her lover: from her faded floral dress (pink of course), to the perfectly placed barrette in her hair, to her warm brown eyes which were now looking into her own.
Hera suddenly felt like kissing her again and moved to make it happen when she heard a quiet "meow" coming from under the loveseat. The women looked at each other in confusion then under the chair to see a small, fluffy tuxedo kitten apparently lost and alone.
"Oh!" Sakura gasped as she gently picked up the kitten who immediately took a liking to the Japanese woman. The kitten snuggled and purred as Sakura rubbed behind its ears.
"Have I ever told you how much I love you?" Hera asked while carefully petting the sweet kitten.
Sakura laughed, shook her head and said, "Not in the past 15 minutes or so I believe."
"Well, I do." She said moving her hand up to cup Sakura's cheek.
The kitten let out a louder "meow" and crawled its way up to lick Sakura's other cheek which made the two lovers laugh.
"And apparently so does she."
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd that is the end. For real this time! lol
I do love this universe for some reason however, so there could be ridiculous spinoffs in the future i'm not totally sure
