Tales from the Castle - a Sofia the First fanfic
Chapter 13: Memories
Note: this chapter is based on an idea which was suggested to me by Blossom2019, and takes place during the episode "When You Wish Upon a Well".
Playing Blazing Badminton
In an outdoor area of Enchancia Castle, Amber as a child, and King Roland, were playing a game of Blazing Badminton when Queen Miranda came over.
"Have you two seen that stray cat?" Miranda asked.
"I've seen both of them" Roland replied.
"There are two?!" Miranda gasped.
Amber batted the blazing shuttlecock into the air.
"I got it!" Roland called. "Ah... ah... ah-choo!".
Roland missed the shuttlecock, and it landed next to Sofia as a child (who was now a cat) and Clover.
"There's one of them now, by the rabbit" Roland sniffed.
"Hello" Miranda smiled at the cat. "Oh, aren't you the most darling shade of ... purple?".
"This one showed up when I was practicing with Sofia on the obstacle course" Roland declared. "It's like Sofia vanished when that cat showed up. Ah-choo!".
"Sofia vanished ... and this cat appeared?" Amber gulped, putting two and two together. "Oh, no!".
Amber picked up Sofia. "I'll get it away from you, Daddy".
"Thanks, Amb ... ah-choo!" Roland sneezed.
"Sofia, is that you?" Amber whispered.
Sofia meowed yes.
"I'll take that as a yes" Amber nodded. "Oh, I wished for Daddy to be allergic to you, but I didn't want you to be a cat!".
"She wished for me to be a cat?!" Sofia growled.
"Oh-ho, that's cold!" Clover winced.
"I'm sorry, Sofia!" Amber apologized. "But don't worry. I'll fix it". Amber then carried Sofia away, with Clover following close behind.
A surprise visitor
As Amber, Sofia, and Clover walked away from where they were at, Sofia's amulet started glowing. Suddenly, a bright light appeared before the three. Out of the light came ... a nineteen-year-old Amber.
"Oh, my!" young Amber exclaimed. "Your ... me!".
"Older and wiser" nineteen-year-old Amber smiled. "We have ourselves a problem, don't we?".
"I found a wishing well, and I wished that Daddy would be allergic to Sofia" young Amber started. "Before I knew it, Sofia got turned into a cat. I didn't want that. I just wanted some time with Daddy".
"I know, little one" nineteen-year-old Amber gently said to young Amber. Nineteen-year-old Amber then gently petted Sofia. "Don't worry, Sofia. You'll be back to your old self before you know it".
Young Amber then noticed nineteen-year-old Amber's amulet. "Pretty amulet" young Amber remarked.
"It was ... I should say will be a gift you'll receive when your older" nineteen-year-old Amber said. "It's called the Heart of Milledtion. But, enough about my amulet. We have a sister to help".
"What are we going to do?" young Amber asked, concerned.
Nineteen-year-old Amber started singing a version of the song young Amber sings later in the episode.
"I'm not the kind of girl, to wish and tell. But once I came upon a wishing well. I asked for something bad, and I felt very sad, cause my sister was under a spell".
"I could have made any dream come true, but that's not what I chose to do. If you have a wish to make, ask a star or a birthday cake. Take my advice, and wish for something nice. The last thing I must tell you now, you gotta make your wishes well".
"You gotta make your wishes well. Make your wishes well. The last thing I must tell you now, you gotta make your wishes well".
"I know what I have to do now" young Amber remarked. "I have to get to that wishing well and set things right".
"Just remember one thing, little one" nineteen-year-old Amber said to young Amber. "If all else fails, find our father. He'll know what to do".
Nineteen-year-old Amber stepped back, then disappeared.
"That was certainly strange, meeting myself" young Amber remarked. "However, I can figure that out later. Right now, let's get to that wishing well".
In the future
Nineteen-year-old Amber appeared in her bedroom in Enchancia Castle. Standing in the bedroom was an eighteen-year-old Sofia, and an eighteen-year-old Lucinda.
"Welcome back, Amber" Lucinda smiled.
"Where did you go, Amber?" Sofia inquired.
"Your amulet summoned me, and as a result, my amulet took me to that time when we were kids and you got changed into a cat" Amber answered.
"I remember" Sofia remarked.
"I'm still so sorry for that" Amber said sadly.
"It was an accident, Amber" Sofia gently said. "In the end, everything worked out fine. No harm done".
Sofia and Amber smiled at each other
"Thinking back to that time, did Dad ever reveal what his first wish to the wishing well was?" Amber asked, curious.
"A few years ago, he mentioned a little bit about it" Sofia answered. "He led me to believe it was when he and Aunt Tilly were younger, but he didn't say exactly what happened".
At that point, Baileywick walked into the room.
"Princesses" Baileywick announced. "Dinner will be ready in twenty minutes".
"Thank you, Baileywick" Amber smiled.
As Sofia, Amber, and Lucinda walked to the royal dining room, they happily talked among themselves.
"Anybody know what's being served for dinner?" Amber inquired.
"Pot Roast" Lucinda answered, pleased.
"Yum" the three smiled.
As the three happily walked down the hall, an older version of Amber, in her thirties, watched undetected from a distance. As the older version of Amber watched her younger self, Sofia, and Lucinda walk down the hall, older Amber smiled. "Good times" older Amber happily thought to herself. "Time to get home - Gilbert and Colin will be waiting". Amber touched her amulet, and disappeared. Everything was right with the world.

Nineteen-year-old Amber, eighteen-year-old Sofia, and eighteen-year-old Lucinda are from my Sofia and Lucinda as teens series of stories. As for the part of this chapter where nineteen-year-old Amber, eighteen-year-old Sofia, and eighteen-year-old Lucinda are together, consider it to be set shortly after my story "Helping The Doctor".
Pot Roast was mentioned in Chapter 6 of my story "Witch Tales" (in that chapter, it was mentioned that Pot Roast was one of Lucinda's favorite foods, and I couldn't resist using it in this chapter of "Tales from the Castle").
The suggestion of what Roland's first wish might have been was inspired by "Tilly's Tales" by MissBloodRaven (the story gave us glimpses of when Tilly and Roland were younger, and it seemed logical to assume that a wish by Roland would have taken place during that time).
