DISCLAIMER: I do not own the Prince of Tennis and never will.

Doushite Kimi Wo Suki Ni Natte Shimattandarou?

'Today, the day that holds a special meaning
The day you stood with a smile of happiness
Praying to God in your beautiful appearance
With a person next to you who is not me
The image of you receiving blessings
How could I just stand aside and watch?...'

~ Doushite Kimi Wo Suki Ni Natte Shimattandarou? (English translations) - Tohoshinki ~

'Why did I fall in love with you?'

That sentence made him think deeply. That sentence started everything... and ended it all.

Echizen Ryoma thought it was too late. When he realized that he loved her... it was too late.

She was standing in front of him. Shock was absorbed to her face at the sight of him. Her eyes were staring straight at his own. There was a red tint coloring her cheeks.

Her hand found its way to the back of her ear, "It has been a while."

Ryoma looked at her, looking for any signs of change. Her twin pigtails were still intact but they were shorter. Her face became matured in a beautiful way. Her eyes were beaming with happiness... like she was happy to see him...or like she was totally in love. He placed his hands in his pockets and replied at her, "It is." He stared at her even more, "Are you doing fine?"

She didn't say anything but she nodded instead.

The place was eerily quiet after that. He knew from that moment that things weren't the same between them. He didn't know if he would like that.

He didn't say anything as they just stared at each other. She looked at her wrist which her watch was attached to it. Her lips formed a tiny smile and looked at him, "I'm..."

Ryoma watched her and at the same time, the wind blew. Her next words made his eyes dilated... leaving him speechless.

"I'm getting married."

It had been forever since she told him that. Months passed and he had been aware of her preparations.

She was going to tie the knot with her future husband today.

And here he was rallying. He was back to his old routine. Focusing on his hit to the wall at every second, trying to forget what was about to happen a couple of hours later. Then, he suddenly asked himself.

What went wrong?

Memories flood into him. Their first meeting was unusual but he felt that he knew her well after that. He only realized how natural it was for him to be with her. He had known her for a couple of years... before he left the land of rising sun. And how he admitted to himself that he loved the girl who he thought was waiting for him to come back.

But Ryuzaki Sakuno had chosen a different path.

She had been waiting for this day. It held a special meaning for her. Now he knew that he would never be able to convey his feelings for her. His feelings that surprisingly growing everyday and night. But it sucked that she would never reach them anymore.

He stopped rallying all of a sudden and frown was visible to his sweaty face. He looked on the ground and gripped his racket.

"Why did I..." He whispered as if he noticed something just now. Before he changed his mind, he pivoted and made his way out of the court and went to a certain place he didn't thought of going. He wanted to do something at least. He knew that he wanted to see her and maybe...

Maybe he could...

"I do."

That was what he heard the moment he opened the double doors of the church he suddenly barged in. No one noticed him but he noticed her. He only noticed her... on this day.

The day she stood with a smile of happiness, in her wonderful appearance. She felt loved as she listened to the vows in front of her and her loved one. Her loved one... not him.

He loved her but he was not the one beside her at that moment. He was not the one receiving blessings with her. He only stared in front of the altar watching the girl giving her vows to the person she'd spend the rest of her life with.

How could he just stand there and watch?

Before anyone could notice him, he slowly moved backwards and quietly left the place contrast to how he barged in earlier. He walked away... away from her. For he knew that it was too late. He loved her and all he could wish for was for her happiness so he looked one last time and whispered to himself;

"Wish you all the best..."

He snapped his eyes open. The first thing he saw was the blue sky above him. It was clear and even some birds were flying beneath the clouds. A shadow caught his attention, blocking his vision of the oceanic sky and he stared at the face that made his heart skip a beat. She was wearing a concern expression as she looked at him.

"Having a bad dream," She smiled after staring at him as she tucked some strands of her hair to her ear, "Ryoma-kun?"

A bad dream. Maybe.

No. It was a terrible dream.

The wind blew and she looked vulnerable in his eyes.

"I dreamt the person who stood beside you on your wedding day." I said staring at her. She seemed to be absorbing what he said before she chuckled making him frown, "What's so funny?"

"You," She covered her mouth with her hand, "No one was beside me but you, silly."

His eyes widened. Then he remembered his current situation. They were on a hill and he was actually laying on her lap and he fell asleep. Deciding to spend their time on a peaceful day together. He stared at her left hand where the gold band was attached to her ring finger. She was married... to him. It felt nice to know that.

"Ne..." He called her attention.

"Hmmm." Her eyes looked at his own.

"Why did I fall in love with you?"

Her eyes widened and she blushed. Then, she gave him a genuine smile, "Only you can answer that."

He stared at her for a long time, memorizing every angle of her face. She was right. He knew the answer long ago. He wanted her to be happy forever and he wanted to be a part of it. And he was glad that he fought for her and he did the right thing.

Only him could answer his own question and would gladly show her instead.

He smiled a little before he reached out and grabbed the back of her head. He pulled her head down and kissed her chastely on her lips. She gasped at the sudden touch of their lips but soon relaxed after that. He loved making her surprise at everything he did just like kissing her suddenly. Yep, he was glad that he did not give up on her.

For she would never say goodbye to him anytime now.
