~ Christmas won't be the same without you - Christmas Classic ~
Feeling the cold through my gloves, I blew air through them before rubbing them. Snow was thick in December. It was falling once again. I looked up and watched the flakes fall. The season was busy since Christmas was just around the corner.
It was actually a few hours before Christmas.
And I was far from the land of the rising sun.
Far from my hometown.
Far from my friends.
The snow of St. Petersburg wasn't any different than the snow in Tokyo. My parents decided to spend Christmas here instead. Obaa-chan preferred to stay at home and spent Christmas with her team so I went here by myself.
I didn't lose my way, by the way.
But I couldn't help missing my friends way back home.
My reverie was cut short when my phone started to ring making me flinch in the process. Walking to the veranda of the hotel where we were staying, I pulled out my phone and answered it.
'SAKUNOOOOOOOO!'
I closed one eye and distanced my phone from my ear. Well, talking about missing them indeed. When I heard nothing from the other line, I brought it back and spoke;
"Tomo-chan! No need to shout. I can hear you clearly."
'Can't help it. I miss you already! How are you there?' My best friend asked me. Hearing her voice actually made me homesick and it was a day since I'd been here.
"I am doing fine, really. My parents toured me around St. Petersburg. The place is beautiful."
'On a snowy night? Wow! I can imagine that!'
"On a snowy night," I giggled as I understood what she meant knowing that the pile of snow was almost exactly the same in Tokyo, "Everything is white here."
'Hah! Told you so!'
We both laughed at the antics. I missed Tomo-chan already and I voiced it out to her.
"I miss you, Tomo-chan."
'Do you really? Or is it someone else?'
"It's you of course!" I defended as I felt blush creeping to my face, "I miss everyone else."
'Seriously, you are in a different country. You should be having fun there.'
"You are right," I agreed but spending the holiday with them was different. It wasn't that I didn't enjoy my parents' company. It was just totally weird without everyone.
It only felt different.
'Cheer up, girl!' Tomo-chan interrupted my thoughts, 'You should be celebrating Christmas there! It's not like you can travel there for several times.'
"I know what you mean. It's just things aren't the same without everyone with me. It felt different."
'Hey! You just can't go and be bah! humbug! on me! It doesn't suit you.'
"I won't be like that! There's no way!" I defended. "I just wish that I could spend Christmas with everyone, including my parents."
'We maybe far from each other right now, but,' There was a shuffle from the background before she heard something that made me giggle.
'HAPPY CHRISTMAS!/MERRY CHRISTMAS RYUZAKI-SAN!'
I once again removed the phone from my ear but I continued smiling and giggling at them.
'From everyone! Ryuzaki-sensei's idea,' Tomo-chan came back despite the noises behind her, 'We are always connected with our hearts, remember that.'
"Thank you, Tomo-chan..." I smiled serenely at my best friend, "Thank you."
'No problem,' I could sense the grin she had on her face. 'I strongly recommend that you will all tell me everything that you'll do there once you get back here.'
"But Tomo-chan-"
'All of it!'
I blinked twice before smiling, "All of it then."
'Merry Christmas, Sakuno!'
"Merry Christmas..."
We talked for a bit more before ending the call. A smile was brought to face as I placed my phone back to my pocket. The evening was getting colder but I didn't mind. The view from the balcony was nice. Christmas lights and lanterns were lit everywhere.
I felt like I was viewing a festival way back home. The whole place was beautiful at night.
I sighed deeply. Today was the day before Christmas. Actually, the eve of Christmas. My parents wanted me to spend Christmas with them so I had to go to them soon. But I wanted to pass these few hours before I could find them. Because today was Christmas eve.
And also his birthday.
A snow flake appeared right before my eyes. I looked up and it was followed by another. And another. One even landed on my nose. I giggled as I shook my body before lifting my hand to catch one. It melted right away.
It was really the time of the day.
I leaned on the railings for the support and looked up, staring at the snow flakes falling to the ground before whispering to myself;
"Happy Birthday, Ryoma-kun."

"Sankyuu."
My eyes suddenly widened when a voice I firmly recognized spoke behind me. Surely, that couldn't be him, right? He was miles and miles away with everyone. He couldn't be here.
But everything seemed so real when I turned around and saw him standing near the sliding door. He was in his normal polo t-shirt and black jeans. His signature hat was upturned viewing his amber eyes directly to mine.
"R-Ryoma-kun?"
A smirk was plastered to his face as he walked towards me. His hands were tucked into his pockets, "In a flesh, yeah."
"W-what are you doing here?" I couldn't help but ask. My heart pounded as I felt heat welcomed my face.
"I took the last flight to get here."
"E? W-why?"
Ryoma-kun stopped beside me but he didn't tear his eyes away from mine. "You didn't give me my present."
I blinked a few times before looking away, "I was planning to give it to you when I came back."
"I am here now."
"W-we'll that can wait." I said looking ahead of me. Ryoma-kun being here was completely unexpected. Tomo-chan never mentioned that he would be here. Did she do it on purpose? I had to confront her when I got to her.
Christmas songs suddenly erupted throughout the city. Then the bells started ringing. I looked at my watch.
It was twelve midnight.
It was Christmas Day.
"Ryuzaki."
"Hm." Turning to him, I found myself stiffen as he suddenly leaned down and pressed his lips to my cheek. They lingered there for a few seconds before he moved away a little.
"Merry Christmas." He said loud enough for me to hear. To say that I was stunned was actually an understatement. He had full of surprises I never expected that he would do. Ryoma-kun was making my heart pound loudly in my chest. He wasn't planning to calm it any moment especially when he smirked. I bit my lower lip before I looked down to the enlightened town, smiling in the process.
"M-Merry Christmas..."
A few heartbeats later, I felt his hand slowly slipping into mine. If I could blush even more, I would have done that already. Something he placed between us caught my eyes that literally made them widen. His other hand was carrying a parasitic plant, with yellowish flower and white berries in the middle. I couldn't look at him. Was it there the whole time? The plant wasn't above us but still...
"Next time..."
His voice made me slowly look up at him. His expression was a bit serious with a hint of playfulness in it as he continued speaking;
"Next time, it won't be on the cheek."
It took me a moment before I realized what he was saying. I didn't know how to react so I ended burying my face to his shoulder. I knew I was blushing really hard and bet that he could see it through my ears.
"Mou, s-stop teasing me, Ryoma-kun!"
He snickered a bit and replied by just squeezing my hand gently. Soon, we were both viewing the scene ahead of us. This Christmas was full of surprises from my friends and Ryoma-kun.
It was a memorable one indeed and best Christmas yet.
