My Fine Star
Summary: She was sure that no one remembered her special day.
"Love-fifteen!"
The umpire's announcement that coming from the television rang through to the four entire corners of the gym in the school that day. The senpais started cheering once again no matter how Obaa-chan tried to silence them. The person playing on the screen for the boy's singles during the Australian Open was none other than Ryoma-kun. His opponent was from America and was sparing just fine. Ryoma-kun got the first set; 6-4 while his opponent got the second set; 6-4 as well. The third set would determine the winner and advance to the second round of the round robin match. The reason my senpai-tachi was screaming because it was actually the final game. It was five games to three in favor of Ryoma-kun.
He was close at winning the game, hence, the match.
"Thirty-love!"
Senpai cheered once again when he scored another.
"Double match point!" Kikumaru-senpai shouted.
"It is Echizen's service point," Momo-chan-senpai commented, "It is hard for the opponent to return the ace."
"Saa, minna, Echizen is serving again," Fuji-senpai said not tearing his eyes on the screen, "Can you tone down for a bit."
I turned my head just to see the opponent scored this time.
"Thirty-fifteen!"
"It's hard to return his ace, huh?" Kaidoh-senpai mocked-whispered but alas, Momo-chan senpai heard him.
"Mind your own business, Mamushi!" He retorted, "He has him some leeway, that's all!"
"Thirty all!"
"What!" Kikumaru-senpai grabbed the sides of the TV with his hands, "Don't give him a tie break, Ochibi! Better yet, don't give up another game! Win it this time!"
"Calm down, Eiji!" Oishi-senpai tried to remove his doubles partner from the TV.
As if Ryoma-kun heard Kikumaru-senpai's demand, he got the score this time.
"Forty-thirty!"
"Set point!" Momo-chan-senpai and Kawamura-senpai both shouted while Kikimaru-senpai whistled.
Buchou and Obaa-chan were watching with bemused expressions, well, differently. The audience way back to Melbourne was cheering for him, like how Tomo-chan was cheering to my side. It felt so nice to see that Ryoma-kun had lots of supporters.
I was startled when the people in the gym shouted when the umpire announced Ryoma-kun's victory.
"Game, set, match! Ryoma Echizen!"
Ryoma-kun won his first round. He was amazing as usual. I stared at him on the screen. He was wiping the sweat on his head as he interviewed shortly. I brought my knees to my chest and placed my chin on top of them. A smile was crept to my lips as I continued staring at him.
Congratulations, Ryoma-kun.

I started walking with my best friend on our way home a few hours after Ryoma-kun's victory. She kept talking about Ryoma-kun's victory and I couldn't help but smile at her. I was also happy for him. Ryoma-kun was slowly reaching his goal. The wind blew suddenly. Was it the wind? Or the snow? Whatever hit me, it felt nice to the skin.
The breeze of January was relaxing. It was cold but that didn't stop us from enjoying the weather which was rarely happened these days. A smile was formed on my lips. Ryoma-kun's victory was something I wished to happen and happened it did.
I felt a slight pain that hit my head and saw Tomo-chan looking at me curiously. Her fist was placed on the left top of my head.
"That's a bit hurt, Tomo-chan," I complained rubbing the head that she hit, "Why'd you do that for?"
She had the firm look on her face. She placed her hands to hip as she completely faced me, "That's for you not listening to me. What's gotten into you anyway?"
"Nothing. I was just thinking." I gave an apologetic look for not listening to most of her stories.
"Well, thinking of what?"
Blush crept to my face as I looked at the hands in front of me, "Of how lucky Ryoma-kun is."
Tomo-chan didn't say anything at first. I was about to look back at her when she finally replied to me.
"He sure is!" She grinned at me, "You know how he is."
I nodded as I smiled at her, "I can't wait for him to come home and congratulate him."
Tomo-chan stopped walking all of a sudden making me almost bump into her back. I peeked at her curiously as to why she had stopped moving.
"Tomo-chan?" I called for her when she didn't say anything. She turned around to face me, wearing her serious face before surprising me with a hug. I yelped at her sudden action and balanced the two of us, "W-what are you-"
"Happy Birthday, Sakuno!" She clearly whispered to my ear making my eyes wide in the process.
"Y-you... remembered?" I said actually asking than giving a statement. She moved a little, giving me a frown first before grinning at me.
"Of course I remembered!" Tomo-chan exclaimed, "What kind of best friend I am if I don't remember your birthday?"
"An all-of-a-sudden-you-remember-the-type best friend?"
"Haha! Very funny, Sakuno!"
I giggled before hugging my best friend once again. Closing my eyes, I remembered how blessed I was to have her in my life. I couldn't help but smiled at the thought, "Thank you, Tomo-chan."

"Tadaima!" I called then I realized that I arrived home first than Obaa-chan. I giggled at my own silliness. She stayed in the campus for cleaning up. I wanted to help but she shooed me away.
I made my way to the stairs and then to my room. I immediately plopped down on my bed and stared at the ceiling. I only realized the exhaustion when my back hit the soft fabric of my bed. Sighing, my eyes lingered to the ceiling. The image of a star came to my imagination. I didn't know why It suddenly came to me. Somehow, I imagined that the star was him. It sounded silly but that was how I saw him. A star who was a lightyear away.
I guessed that I would keep waiting for him every time he left.
A knock that was coming from my window made me stop from brooding. I turned my head only to be surprised to see the person who just won his first round match a couple of hours ago. I immediately sat up straight and stared at him as he opened the window.
"R-Ryoma-kun! W-what are you doing-why are you here?"
He didn't say anything at first as he walked towards my bed where I was sitting. He stood in front of me did he only spoke, surprising me in the process.
"I came to give you this."
I stared at his hand where he showed a tennis ball from his pocket. My eyes widened when I saw it. He had a funny doodle face of... me? And at the side of it was signature. I would have laughed at it but I was still surprised at his sudden visit.
"I thought you'd like to have one so here it is."
Without thinking, I reached for the ball and stared at it. I did want to have one but I didn't think that he knew.
"Y-yes but you could have given me this after the tournament."
Ryoma-kun looked at me curiously as if he thought that I'd do something funny any minute. He was the one that surprised me.
"It will not be your birthday by then."
I gasped as I stared at him. Ryoma-kun went home to give me a present on my birthday? The more shocking was he actually knew my birthday. That rendered me speechless. I looked down at my hands where the tennis ball was sitting. A blush and a tiny smile appeared on my face before looking up at him.
"Arigatou, Ryoma-kun."
Which he returned with a tiny smile. I guessed the star came to me instead and I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by it.

I hope you like it. I planned to post this on Sakuno's birthday but I got sick after attending a late Christmas party for two days. But it's here now.
It's better to be late than never, right? right?
