He didn't know how he had found himself in this situation. The day before he stumbled upon a beautiful girl, long blonde hair and the greenest eyes he had ever seen. For some reason, he was captivated by her; she reminded him of the girl who rescued him from the shipwreck. However, there was one problem- this girl could not speak at all. It saddened him; she was so intriguing and he just wanted a conversation with her. The whole no voice thing was seriously a drag though since he hated talking. But the way her eyes would light up when he would talk and how animated she would get from the smallest of things made his heart swell with joy and a feeling that was unknown to him.

Today, they had went on an adventure of the town. He took her to the market and enjoyed seeing her fawn over the stalls. They went for a carriage ride and he let her drive; that was a mistake because she almost got the two of them killed. Now they were on a quiet boat ride in the lagoon and he couldn't help but admire her beauty. His arms flexed as he paddled the boat, the quietness undisturbed save for the splashing of water and what sounded like an animal dying in the distance. The sound abruptly cut off, signaling that the animal had finally passed on. He wasn't sure if he was imagining things, but he swore he was hearing a soft medley play in the distance, his musician's ears could pick up the faint rhythm.

There you see her

Sitting there across the way

She don't got a lot to say

But there's something about her

And you don't know why

But you're dyin' to try

You wanna kiss the girl

"Did you hear something?" he asked her with a slight scowl on his face. He knew the stress of the kingdom was tough on him, but he didn't think he had gone crazy yet. A shake no of her head contradicted his thought and he sighed wistfully. Maybe the demon that haunted his thoughts had come back to mess with him.

Yes you want her

Look at her you know you do

Possible she want you too

There is one way to ask her

It don't take a word

Not a single word

Go on and kiss the girl

His heart started racing as words flowed through his head. Yes, it definitely was the demon here to mess with him again. He barely knew this girl yet it was telling him to make a move on her. He had no idea why, but he wanted to comply; the voice was just as compelling as was her hypnotic stare. His throat went dry as she leaned in slightly, lips puckered faintly. Could she possibly know his thoughts? Before he could act on any rash impulses, he pulled back from her, closing his eyes and focusing on rowing. Extend the arms. Retract them. Repeat. Control your hormones. He let this mantra repeat through his perverted mind in order to calm himself.

Sha-la-la-la-la-la my, oh, my

Look at the boy too shy

He ain't gonna kiss the girl

Sha-la-la-la-la-la ain't that sad?

Ain't it a shame?

Too bad he gonna miss the girl

"You know, we've been hanging out all day, yet I realized I don't even know what your name is," he commented with a low chuckle, distracting himself from the insistent voice telling him to kiss her. She looked at him with sad eyes and he could tell she wished she had a voice to talk. "Maybe I could guess it?" She looked at him with hopeful eyes and he knew he had to do this. "Is it ummm…" Shit, he was lost. He had no idea! She could be named anything for all he knew. "Clara?" he asked hopefully. Her scrunched up nose was a dead giveaway that clearly that was not the right answer. He chuckled uneasily, trying to calm his nerves down. "What about Marie?" Shake of the head. "Rachel?" Another one to match. He was starting to lose hope when the voice whispered another name to him.

"Maka?" he whispered, confused. Her eyes brightened and her head bobbed up and down frantically. "Maka?" he asked again, just to make sure. She continued agreeing, grabbing his hand and smiling wide. "That's a gorgeous name," he smiled back at her, blushing from the heat of her hand and the closeness of her.

Now's your moment, floating in a blue lagoon

Boy, you better do it soon, no time will be better

She don't say a word, and she won't say a word

Until ya kiss the girl

Sha-la-la-la-la-la

Don't be scared, you got the mood prepared

Go on and kiss the girl

Sha-la-la-la-la-la

Don't stop now, don't try to hide it how

You wanna kiss the girl

Sha-la-la-la-la-la

Float along, and listen to the song

Song say kiss the girl

The voice continued pressing on in his mind as he stared into her eyes, the soft smile she gave him entrancing him more and more. One kiss couldn't hurt, right? He felt himself leaning towards her more and more, like a spell had been put on him. He couldn't pull away from this beauty, no matter how much he wanted to since he knew that he was going crazy officially. Why should the crazed voice in his head dictate what he should do with a mute girl he just met? But the way she looked at him and leaned into him made him think that she wanted to kiss him just as bad. This was insanity, but boy, he was sure loving it.

Sha-la-la-la-la-la

Music play, do what the music say

You gotta kiss the girl, kiss the girl

Why don't you kiss the girl

Go on and kiss the girl

Go on and kiss the girl

They were as close as could be now; he could feel the warmth of her skin underneath his palms. He could hear the breathy sighs she gave as he pulled her into him, head tilting as they leaned into one another. Their eyes were lidded as they looked at one another. This was it; he was really going to kiss her. Their lips barely touched when the boat capsized, throwing them both into the frigid liquid.

"FUCK!" he yelled as he emerged from the water. Goddamn that was cold! He looked over at her and saw her shivering and he couldn't be more pissed. The mood was officially ruined as was both of their outfits. He gave her his hand, pulling her out and holding her close to him for warmth. "Come on, let's go back to the palace," he whispered, trying to conceal his anger with the water and boat. She nodded meekly, a frown creasing her brow. As he righted the boat and pulled the two of them to shore, he couldn't help but think that maybe it was for the best that they didn't kiss, as much as it sucked to think that. He had only just met her, after all.
