The raging inferno licked high against the ceiling of the garage, enraged and mournful cries filling the air as chaos encased the area. Three kings, feeling reduced to helplessness, clutched desperately to the body of their beloved, blood seeping from her chest into the fabric of the once pretty summer dress, her skin feeling clammy as it lost its natural temperature and she fought to keep hold of her final breath as three sets of fangs bit desperately into all of her pulse points.

Beside them, a lone vampire clutched to his own love as he attempted to push the venom into her own veins, anywhere upon her skin that hadn't been singed and tarnished by the blast as her breaths grew more ragged with each passing moment, the pain of her burns and the feel of her ripped flesh causing her to cry out with what little strength she had left to give.

Bree could only watch the tragedy unfold, a protective sphere surrounding her as it sheltered her from the heat, a familiar presence seeming to promise that the flames would never touch her. But what good would that be? What good was such safety when she would still be forced to watch the death and ruin of those she had come to love so dearly?

How had their day gone so quickly from perfect to disastrous? Why had this had to happen?

*thirty minutes earlier*

"We may still be able to catch them in my office, head there first Bree!"

She had to shelter her eyes from the breeze that bombarded her eyes at the speed of Bree's running as the young vampire changed their course slightly towards Felicity's office, could feel her heart beating hard in panic against her rib cage as the pair made their way towards their destination. Surely they could catch Roxanne and Felix in time?

"Shit!"

Bree winced at the expletive that fell from the young human's mouth, having never heard her utter such crude words before as they burst into the office, no sign of either of their friends within the room, the draw that Felicity usually kept her keys in clearly left open in the excitement of Roxanne and Felix's plans for their date.

"We need to hurry Bree, we can't be too far behind them and if we don't catch up… I don't wish to think of the outcome"

If Bree still had a beating heart, it would have jumped in horror at the images her mind provided from the brief description Felicity had given of her vision. It was a fate she would not wish on anyone. Gathering her human friend within her arms once more, Bree began to run as fast as her speed could carry her towards the garage, praying to any god or deity that would listen to simply allow them to reach the others in time.

Felix couldn't help but grin widely as Roxanne squealed in excitement as she placed the key into the ignition of the Morgan Plus 4, hesitating to turn the engine on as she simply blissed in the beauty of the car and the joy she felt at being able to share this time with Felix.

"I never thought she'd actually let us borrow it for the day. Even Felicity doesn't drive it that often, it's her pride and joy… It's gorgeous"

"It's nothing compared to your beauty"

Roxanne blushed vibrantly at her love's words as she sent a dazzling smile his way that had his head spinning. He felt truly blessed in that moment as he took the hand that wasn't holding the key in the ignition and brought it to his lips, placing a gentle kiss upon the top.

"Let's go, my beautifu…."

Felix would have finished his sentence; told her that she was his beautiful angel but the sound of hurried footsteps caught his sensitive ears and, as he turned his face away from Roxanne as she began to turn the key to see Bree rushing towards them with Felicity held in her arms before breaking free to continue her move towards the pair in the car, the young human's words first words sending horror through his being.

"FELIX, ROXANNE! GET OUT OF THE CAR! IT'S A BOMB!"

The next moments were a blur as Roxanne finished turning the engine on, Felicity's words having reached her own ears too late as Felix flashed from the car to pull Roxanne free as the blast engulfed the car upon the engine triggering. Felix had only managed to pull Roxanne half way out as the explosion engulfed the car and large shards of glass tore into the flesh he was unable to protect in time, a thick chunk of molten metal piercing through her kidney as she screamed in pain, Felix pulling her quickly from the flames as panic setting in as blood began to ooze around her.

For a moment, Bree could only feel numb horror as she watched the event unfold, unsure what to do as Felix gave a roar of grief and rage as Roxanne's breath came out ragged, his fangs quickly beginning to bite into her flesh as he pushed his venom into her veins in a desperate attempt to save her.

For a moment, Bree failed to notice the other fallen body that lay only inches away from her, the blood that soaked into the once pale blue summer dress as a feeble hand began to fumble towards her stomach. It was then that Bree realised fully what was going on. They were too late. Roxanne had turned the engine on and now, both she and Felicity lay dying. The young mate of the three kings lay bleeding upon the cold floor, a large chunk of metal protruding from her stomach as glassy eyes turned to Bree with desperation deep within them.

Bree felt the noise ripping from her lungs before she realised she was screaming, heard the doors to the underground garage pull open before she realised the three kings had rushed to their mate's side having heard the explosion and the cries of both herself and Felix.

Aro was the first to reach Felicity as he reached to take her hand, seeing through his gift the events that had unfolded as his brothers joined his side, Felicity's hooded eyes looking weakly between each of them as a sad smile graced her lips, the sound of Roxanne's screams of pain dying to nothing as Felix also fell silent, choosing simply to cradle his mate to his chest as he sought desperately for any sign of a heartbeat.

"I… couldn't make it… in time"

"Shhh, my treasure, save your energy"

Caius was the first to pierce his fangs into her wrist as she continued to mutter, tears beginning to shroud her eyes at the pain that coursed through her body. She would not cry out; she would not let them know truly how much this hurt when it would only rip them even further apart.

"Find…. Who did… this to us"

"We will, my love. With you by our side"

Second was Marcus as he bit into her chest, just above the heart, refusing to let go as he pushed as much of his venom into her bloodstream as he possibly could. Her tears fell thicker as she bit her lip to hold back the screams of both her injuries and the venom being pushed into her veins.

"My kings…. My loves"

"Be strong, my precious"

And finally, Aro sank his own fangs deep into her throat, listening intently as her heartbeat began to slow to a dangerously low pace, there but only just as he pushed his own venom into his young love. He would find the person who had done this, would make them suffer a hundred times over for what they had done to the future queen of the Volturi, for what they had done to the members of his coven.

Bree could only watch in anguish as she felt a deep sense of uselessness settle within her, noticing the sphere of energy that seemed to settle around her as a familiar presence seemed to embrace her and whisper into her ear that everything would be ok, that the flames would not touch her. Was this her gift finally making itself known? But what good could that be when it could not protect those that she held dearest to her already battered heart.

'My Bree. It will be ok…. Have courage'

Her mind went numb as the words echoed within her mind, her eyes following as Marcus lifted his broken mate into her arms and the three kings carried their mate away to her room, only just registering that Felix was doing the same with Roxanne. That voice within her mind, why did it sound so familiar? Why did it feel so much like a safety she had lost so long ago?

"…Mom?"
