"I believe that your magic is based in the dark arts. It has all the markers."
"But why would MOON magic be dark?" Hermione's tone was harsh. She did not like what she was being accused of.
"According to legend, A full moon makes you more powerful but isn't the source of your power. Unfortunately, there aren't any reliable records of actual moon magic. I had assumed it was a myth until now."
Malfoy snickered. Apparently, he liked the idea that Dumbledore got something wrong.
"Really, Malfoy?" Hermione glared at him.
"Shut up Granger."
Hermione stuck her tongue out at him.
"Children behave!"
They turned their attention back to the old man.
" I am unsure why you two have such different magic but you seem to balance each other. It may have something to do with bloodlines. Either way, it makes the two of you a perfect pair…"
"What?!"
"Miss Granger please let me continue." Hermione started to answer but thought better of it. Dumbledore continued, "It makes the two of you the perfect pair for performing ritual magic, because your powers balance each other out. Draco you may leave I have other things to discuss with Hermione."
Hermione watched Malfoy leave and then turned back to the Headmaster. She wanted to ask him how it could be related to bloodlines, since she's a muggle. He didn't give her a chance.
"I believe, Miss Granger, that you came in contact with Voldemort the night before you came back, is that right?"
"Yes sir."
"And you saw him in a graveyard attacking a grave?"
"Yes sir but why does it matter?"
"I'm not sure yet." Dumbledore stood up. "I wish we could chat longer, but I have a meeting at the Ministry. Please report back here tomorrow at 7 with Mister Malfoy."
Hermione got up and left. As she was walking out the door, she heard Dumbledore muttering to himself. Perhaps she should go find Malfoy. Maybe he would know more about it.
Hermione wandered through the hallways, searching for Malfoy. He had to be somewhere. She could see the full moon streaming through the window. She stopped, and gazed at it. It was so beautiful. Just like the night before she came back to school.
"Granger."
Hermione spun around to find Malfoy behind her. He looked slightly scared.
"What the hell is the matter with you?"
"I just…something's wrong."
"What?"
Malfoy gazed up at the moon. It was just as full as it had been a week ago. She followed his gaze.
" Malfoy…why is it still a full moon?"
"The full moon follows me."
"Did you tell Dumbledore that?" He didn't answer her question.
"Dumbledore has hidden motives, Granger."
Malfoy's gazed settled on Hermione. She could feel it penetrate her skin. She shivered involuntarily.
"What are you talking about Malfoy?"
"Moon magic was dismissed because it's weak. Voldemort was the one who told me to research it. I'm not sure why but he sees it as a threat. When it didn't work like he wanted, he didn't have a use for me; no reason to keep me alive," Malfoy looked morbid. "That's why I came to Dumbledore for protection."
"And that leads to hidden motives how?"
"Voldemort was expecting certain results; I believe the result you had. Suddenly, you are MVW and Dumbledore wants control."
"and MVW is what?" Malfoy grinned.
"Most valuable weapon."
