Darkness.

The sound of someone running echoed through the woods. Leaves crisping beneath hasty feet. Full moon was out and open in the night´s black sky, slightly obscured by blurry clouds, leaving an eerie sight one would expect in a ghost film. But this wasn´t some fake happening. It was real. As clear as the moon hanging in the all consuming dark. Though, the person running could barely make out a thing, for the trees´ leafy rooftops prevented the moon´s ghostly light from ever reaching the ground.

The forest became less dense as the sound of footsteps went on. The thick night air became heavier as a cloud descended to the earth. Mist, illuminated by the white moon above. Hurried footsteps slowed down a bit, the person raising its hands, feeling around for obstacles, in hopes of preventing running into something. The foggy surroundings didn´t make navigating through a forest at night any easier. Still, the person kept going, never once coming to a stop. As if afraid that doing so would lead to certain death.

´Hey, girlie! Getting tired yet?!´

Which it probably was.

Said girl did not turn around. She merely kept going the way she was, even faster now that that voice was speaking again. And it sounded closer. She needed to hurry and get out of there. Fast.

However, this was easier said than done. The girl was running for quite a while now, and had barely any energy left. But she kept pushing herself. She had to. If she wouldn´t, god knew what would happen when, no, if he got to her. It wouldn´t be nice, that´s for sure.

The irony, the girl thought, thinking about a god while being chased by that freak.

Chills ran down her spine when thinking back about what she´d seen. Blood. Everywhere she looked, the crimson liquid filled her sight. Even more painful than the view alone, was the fact that all that red belonged to...

No. If he got to her, it certainly wouldn´t be pretty. But she wouldn´t let it come that far.

Left...right...jump...

Why was this taking so long? She had to be near some sort of civilization by now. The fog was annoying too. She couldn´t see farther than two or three meters in front of her. It made making it out of that seemingly unending forest a lot more difficult than it should´ve been. Her orientation was near gone as well. But it didn´t matter. As long as she kept going the way she was, he wouldn´t be able to get to her and she would make it! Unfortunately, fate wouldn´t have it that way. Out of nowhere a tree root appeared, and the girl, having seen it too late, tripped.

She lay still on the ground, not daring to move even an inch, barely able to will herself to at least breath. But even that little bit of movement she allowed herself faded away the moment she sensed, rather than heard, his presence closing in on her, much too close than she would have liked. She prayed to whatever god there was out there, there had to be, that he wouldn´t see her. She was so small, surely he would overlook her and leave her alone.. Surely...

´There you are. Trying to hide from me?´

She heard him chuckle. The sound frightened her more than anything. Now that she´d been discovered anyway, she decided to at least take a look at her pursuer. Slowly, so very slowly, she turned her head, willing herself to look, just a glance in his direction. Big eyes widened and pupils shrunk in fear. This man certainly had more frightening elements to him than his chuckle alone. She could only watch in horror as a gigantic, red scythe came down at her, three blades eager to spill yet some more blood tonight.
