Elizabeth quickly finished making her purchases from the market in town and began to make her way back toward the inlet where the cabin sat atop the cliff. William was pouting in protest. He hated leaving the town and going back to the cabin. It would be another week before they would return. Even at such a young age, he had what Elizabeth described as an old soul. He understood more about people and emotions than many adults her age did. Because of this, he loved to be around people. Unfortunatly for him, because of who is mother was, that was just out of the question. If anyone learned of Elizabeth's identity she would be shipped back to Port Royal, tried and then hung for aiding and abetting a pirate.
"Come on now, William," said Elizabeth in a hushed tone, "We have to go now…please don't fuss. We'll be back next week, I promise."
"I wish we could stay," said William as he cast a forlorn glance over his shoulder at the townspeople.
Elizabeth frowned sadly, "I know darling…I know but…"
Elizabeth felt her breath catch in her throat and her heart skipped a beat when she caught sight of a ship far off in the distance. It was heading in at an angle away from the town, but to a smaller port nearby. Despite the distance there was no mistaking the shape of her hull or the torn, black canvas of her sails. Without a doubt in her mind, Elizabeth knew what ship this was…it was the Black Pearl.
…
Elizabeth hurried home with William and put away the things in her basket, her hands trembling as she did so. What was Jack Sparrow doing here? Had he come to see her? No…that was absurd. He hadn't been back to see her in over three years now, why would he come back now? He was probably just stopping by to pick up supplies for his ship and didn't want to stop at the main port for fear of nearby guards. The Royal Navy was on high-alert for pirates and was making no exceptions for any of them. If a pirate was caught it was straight to the gallows for him, no questions asked…and the same could be said for those who helped or fraternized with pirates.
As much as Elizabeth longed to run over to the port the Black Pearl was heading towards and through herself at Jack and sob her heart out…she knew that those actions could very well endanger both herself and young William. The very thought of watching her own son hang because of her actions made her sick to her stomach. No…she would have to put away her desires for the sake of William. She would have to let Jack go…
…
Jack Sparrow frowned as he strode through the market place, his brow furrowed in frustration and worry as he sought out Elizabeth's face in the crowds. He began to wonder if the Royal Navy had found her…if they had discovered who she truly was. If Elizabeth was dead because of him he wasn't sure he could live with himself. The thought was nauseating and he gritted his teeth as he walked inbetween the masses of people. He had left his hat on board the ship and tried to clean himself up a bit in an attempt to blend in better with the normal folk of the town. The last thing he needed was some Royal guard seeing him. He could lead them straight to Elizabeth if he wasn't careful. That very thought had Jack looking over his shoulder constantly as he slowly but surely made his way out of the town and began to climb the path that led up the cliff and toward the cabin hidden in a forest overlooking the sea…
…
Elizabeth felt her heart stop beating in her chest when she heard the knock on the door. Who had found them? How did they know the cabin was here? The path she and William took was overgrown and barely trodden since they were the only two who used it. There was no way anyone had seen the cabin from town…unless they had been followed. That thought sent shivers down Elizabeth's spine as she grabbed William's hand and ushered him into his room.
"Stay quiet," she whispered as she closed the door, "And darling, if anything happens to Mommy…don't make a sound. Hide…hide and don't move until they are gone, just like we talked about, okay?"
Little William nodded fervently, his dark eyes wide and glazed over with fear as he scampered into his room. Elizabeth swallowed fearfully as she closed the door behind her and made her way back down the short hallway. There was another knock…louder and more insistent this time. She felt her stomach flip over with dread as she imagined what horror stood outside their door.
She reached down into one of the cabinets in the kitchen and pulled out a large knife she had purchased shortly after moving into the cabin three years ago. She crept toward the door and slowly cracked it open. Who she saw on the other side of the door made her drop the knife instantly. It clattered to the floor loudly as she gawked in astonishment at the man standing before her.
Jack's dark eyes were a myriad of emotions as he gazed upon Elizabeth's beautiful face. In three years she was every bit as gorgeous and heart-stopping as she had always been. He found it hard to breath as he tried to speak to her.
"Hello, Lizzie," he said, his eyes narrowing a little with emotion as he used the pet name he had given to her so long ago, "It's been a long time, love…"
I've been thinkin' about you
And how we used to be then,
Yeah back when
It didn't have to end
We canstartagain.
There's nothing left to say,
Don't waste another day,
Its just you and me tonight,
Everything will be okay,
If it's alright with you,
Then it's alright with me,
Babylet's take this time,
let's make new memories.
Do you remember,
All of those times we had?
Let's bring it back.
