Okay, so I looked back on my previous chapter of this contest, and now I'm going insane! O.o It was suppose to turn out with perfect grammar and an awesome numbering enumeration. Ugh! Sometimes I hate my document manager!
Okay, so since I've been getting SO many request to let Kurt/Evan get mauled by a bear, I'm just going to say that it's totally legal. He can also get lacerated. :)
Yes, having a kitten is a requirement. (Saladin doesn't count!) I was mainly high on Sharpies when I wrote the first chapter, so for the longest time I was like, "What? Kittens?" I went back and read, though, so it's all good. :P
If you want to make your story a one-shot, that's totally fine. It actually makes it a bit easier on me... You will be judged by points. Ten for grammar, ten for spelling, and twenty for overall interpretation and incorporation of the rules given. This type of judging will be given for each chapter, so the stories with multiple chapters will be graded each chapter and then given an average of those chapters as a final score.
