"Come on, Evans! We have patrol duty!" yelled James Potter at Lily Evans's Head Girl dorm.

"I'm coming! Shut your trap!" said Lily running down the stairs. "Can't you wait one minute? My gosh, Potter!"

"We're patrolling the dungeons tonight and it's a long walk there," said James.

"Well, don't just stand there, get moving!" said Lily. She walked out of the Head's common room. James reluctantly followed her.

Why were girls so confusing? He constantly found himself wondering that. He caught up to her in the dungeons. She was standing behind a corner with her wand drawn.

"What's going-"

"Shh!" Lily said interrupting him. "I heard a noise."

James drew his wand. They slowly crept around the corner. Staring at them in the face was a cat.

"It's just Mrs. Norris," Lily said.

"She appears to have the dungeons covered. Let's go to the kitchen and get some hot chocolate," said James. "I know how to get in."

"Sounds good to me," said Lily. She followed James to a door with a fruit basket in front of it. He tickled the pear. It giggled a little bit and the door swung open. A house-elf scurried up to them.

"You're usual Mr. Potter?" asked the elf.

"Yes, please, Hokey. For two," James said. The elf hurried away. James sat down at a table. Lily sat down across from him. The house-elf returned with two hot chocolates. She gave one to Lily and the other to James.

"Thanks, Hokey," said James.

"Anything for Mr. Potter," she said as she scurried back to the other elves.

Lily took a sip of her drink and sighed.

"So," she started, "I take it you come here often."

"Have been a lot more lately," he replied. She nodded and took another sip.

"What, no marshmallows?" asked Lily.

"What are marshmallows?" said James looking confused.

"You don't know what marshmallows are?" she replied looking shocked.

"Not a clue."

"Get Hokey to bring us some marshmallows. You'll love them!"

James called to Hokey.

"Hey, Hokey!"

"Yes, Mr. Potter?"

"Could you please bring us some marshmallows?"

"Certainly!" she replied. "Anyhting for Mr. Potter."

"What are they exactly?" James asked Lily.

"They kind of look like really small pillows. They're chewy and squishy and super soft. They taste especially good with hot chocolate," gushed Lily.

Hokey returned with a plate of marshmallows. James picked one up and put it in his mouth. He began to chew it slowly.

"Mmmmmm, these things are...magical!" he decided.

"They are," said Lily. She took one off the plate and plopped it into her hot chocolate. She took a slow sip. James copied her and put a marshmallow in his drink, too.

They finished and left the kitchen. They walked back to the Head's common room. They went through the secret door and stopped at the stairs to the dorms.

"I had a good time tonight," said Lily.

"Me, too, and now I know what a marshmallow is. You Muggles are pretty smart after all."

"I always knew you'd come around, Potter," she smiled and went upstairs.

"Night, Lily!" James called from the opposite side of the room.

"Good night, James," said Lily and she shut the door.

James smiled. Finally, after seven years he had gotten Lily Evans to do something civil with him. He smiled to himself and retreated to his own room.
