Chapter Two
Theed
Pain! That was the easiest way Harry could explain the next few moments of his life before opening his eyes to a fading darkness. His nerves, bones and muscles were on fire and the cruciatus would have been welcomed by the time it began to recede a minute later. There was a whimper to his right and turning his head slightly, he spotted the fiery hair of his wife also recovering from the effects of their rebirth.
"Ginny?" he rolled towards her and noticed that he was in a field of grass with a type of flower that confirmed he was on a new planet. Aside from the pain, he would have believed that he was dead. Turning his focus inward, he flexed his magic and flared it against the pain, cleansing his nerves and rejuvenating his body. He felt the magic encompass him and recognized both the aged feel of his core as well as the youth of his body, "Ginny, wake up."
Ginny groaned this time and she turned to him, "That really, really hurt. If I see Sirius again, I'm going to kill him."
"Thank you, Ms. Weasley." Sirius' voice broke through their recovering fog, "I do have a few more things to tell you before I'm to return to my residence."
"Why aren't you hurting?" Ginny turned to glare at him.
"I'm already dead." Sirius grinned, "I'm not staying either. I am here to make sure you're caught up on the current events. You're on the planet of Naboo. The current ruler, Queen Amidala is located in the capital of Theed."
"Ginny, use your core to cleanse the pain." Harry interrupted having sensed his wife's discomfort from the transport.
"Thanks."
"Hey, this is important."
"I'm sure it is, Sirius." Harry continued to stretch in his grass bed, not caring what his Godfather was prattling on about.
"Fine, I'll continue to prattle and if you find yourself lost, you have only yourself to blame." Sirius countered, "You're pressed for time because there's a current invasion by a corporation called the Trade Federation. There's a whole bunch of background information that you guys don't really need to know..." he stopped and looked up to the sky as a large multi-winged craft passed overhead, the engines whining loudly and shook the ground causing Harry and Ginny both to turn in the direction it was heading, "That was one of their troop transports. Look for Qui-gon and Obi-wan Kenobi. They're potential allies for you two. I can't tell you more because my time is up. I know you're a little too old, Harry, but myself and your parents are all very proud of you."
"Sirius!" Harry turned his attention to his Godfather and realized that he was already fading from sight with a smile on his face and even though there was more he wished he could have said to Sirius, the parting words caught his attention enough that allowed his own smile to appear. There was a breeze that fell over them and Harry frowned at the chill before he realized that he was missing his clothes, "Bloody hell!"
Ginny looked at Harry, sitting up herself before realizing that she was not wearing anything either, "Mangy mutt, he did that on purpose."
To their right, Harry spotted his clothes folded neatly, a style different from what he was used to and ignoring the stiff muscles, he made his way to the pile before noticing Ginny, "Wow!"
She looked up from her own pile of clothes and noticed that he was staring at her like he had on their wedding night and she flushed at his scrutiny. They were both reconstituted to their late teenage years and guessing at the curves of her own figure, they were eighteen and nineteen again. With the energy of her youth and feeling the urge once more, she jumped him and crushed her mouth to his, a kiss with a passion behind it that neither had recognized for several years. He returned it without hesitation, Ginny's petite frame arousing his own desires for her.
Before she could finish what was starting, another ship flew overhead and they broke away, both cursing at the interruption, "We can't get distracted, despite how pleasant this distraction would be."
She flashed him a brilliant smile and she consented, "We'll be finishing this later."
He gathered his clothes and began to dress, "You wouldn't happen to have your wand...found it."
"Is it the Elder wand?" Ginny asked.
"Yeah, with my old wand as well."
"Guess you'll need the extra power. I have mine here too." Ginny pulled her wand out and flourished it around and the magic surrounded her to her core like a comfortable glove, "Oooo, a holster too."
"Look, a trunk." Harry, now dressed in dark tan slacks and a lighter tunic, walked over to the chest and tapped it with his wand, "This isn't what we packed."
Ginny peaked over his shoulder, "At least there are a few things here."
"Cloaks?" Harry unfolded one of the dark brown hooded robes and handed it to her before pulling another out and examining it.
"Must be a style here." Ginny threw hers on, "Not much different from our cloaks back home. Did you find your invisibility cloak?"
"Yeah, resurrection stone is probably here too if the elder wand and my cloak made it.
"Anything else in there that we could use?"
"Found a pair of brooms." Harry pulled out a Firebolt model that was very similar to the one Sirius gifted him years ago, though why they would have gotten older models was beyond him, "No use complaining about the age of the broom."
Ginny examined her own, casting a reveal on the broom and gasping, "These are modded brooms, Harry with some impressive charms that make the Firebolt look ancient."
"It was ancient." Harry chuckled and examined his own broom, "I believe there's a queen we need to find in Theed."
Straddling the broom, he immediately felt the magic responding to what was surrounding the planet, "Disillusion charms? I hope that we'll be invisible to whatever the Trade Federation uses for detection."
They vanished from site as they cast their charms, "Point me, Theed."
His wand spun in the direction both ships had been flying and kicking off, the two Potters sped off in the direction indicated. After ten minutes of travel, they came within sight of he city, pausing to admire the view. Dozens of waterfalls were visible from their position and it appeared the city had been designed into the landscape rather than built over it. Arches and gardens played a dominant role with the architecture and both of them envisioned themselves retiring in a place like this, hoping that the serenity would remain once the invaders were defeated.
A loud humming of engines broke their admiration and on the ground, bulbous transports and thousands of robotic soldiers were marching towards the city. Vehicles armed with a large cannon guarded the convoy and Harry shook his head at the thought of the city falling under control of that emotionless military, "I don't think they can see us, Gin."
He voiced his spell again, this time in search of the Queen. It barely shifted direction and pointed them at the building center of the city proper, "Must be the palace. Think we can get there before the Federation?"
"With the speed of these brooms? Absolutely." though invisible to one another, he felt her smile at him and they pushed towards the large structure without further pause.
They were flying a hundred meters above the buildings, only slowing down to see what the defenses of the city were, not wanting to run into anything that might start targeting them, "It's like they don't even know that there's an army coming." Ginny remarked and Harry agreed, nothing was visible to the two magicals as they soared over the city. Finding a ledge on the third floor, they landed and shook off their concealment spells, Harry looking at the window before vanishing it and hopping through, holding out a hand to his wife before flicking his wand to replace the missing pane of glass.
Ginny cast the point-me charm this time and directed down the hall, they moved quickly, both hoods down to appear as friendly as two strangers appearing in the middle of the palace could, "Hold it right there!"
Both of them paused and were surprised as a half dozen armed guards surrounded them with weapons aimed at their chests. Harry cautiously flicked a modified shield in front of himself, Ginny doing the same to his right. They were unsure what their shield would do against the weapons aimed at them, but figured that it might slow whatever it was down.
The momentary stand off ended when a man approached the shield cautiously and turned a glare to Harry, "Who are you and what are you doing here?"
Harry relaxed his stance and dispelled the shield, brushing the man's mind with a passive legillimency. There was a suspicion of an impending invasion from the Federation, but they had no real evidence. Flexing his power slightly to allow the guards there to know he was not a being to be trifled with, he extended his hand, "I'm Harry, and we're here to see the queen."
"What makes you think that you can stroll in and make demands to see the queen?" the man answered, obviously disturbed by the power he could feel.
"There's a large army from the Trade Federation about to march into your city. We are here to offer our services of protection for her."
"So they are coming." the man looked thoughtful, "You're offering protection for her?"
"What we can, yes."
"Are you from the Republic? We were told that two ambassadors of the Republic were coming to meet with the Federation."
"We aren't from the Republic." Harry shook his head.
"If you know about the army, why aren't there preparations being made to fight them?" Ginny asked.
"We don't have an army." came the reply, "They've been blockading our planet illegally and now this invasion is just as criminal. There's no possible way we can trust you with the protection of our Queen."
"We could have easily forced our way..."
"Ginny." Harry stopped her, putting a hand on her shoulder, "You're right, you can't trust us. But we are on your side and we were sent to protect the queen from a source that would not have her seen harmed."
Hesitantly, the man holstered his weapon, "I'm Captain Panaka of her Royal Majesties Guard Force. We've been on edge for a few hours since we lost communications with the Republic. There were assurances that two ambassadors were coming to negotiate with the Federation and end the blockade and assuming your report is accurate there isn't a lot of time."
"If you're here to help and you want to meet the queen, you won't mind handing over your weapons."
Concealing his wand, Harry held out his hands, "We aren't carrying weapons."
"That energy shield?"
"A shield is defensive by nature." Harry grinned before dropping the smile, "You wouldn't believe me if I told you."
Panaka nodded to one of the guards and both he and Ginny were scanned for devices or weapons, "They're clean sir."
"Your companion?"
"My wife, Ginerva Potter."
"Wife?" Panaka looked at her closely, "Then you aren't Jedi. Allow us to search you one more time before we take you back to the queen."
Harry consented and as they were both patted down, he looked at Panaka, "What are Jedi?"
Panaka was surprised at the question but answered regardless, "They'd claim to be keepers of the peace and part of the arm of justice for the Republic. They haven't stepped in with this blockade, so I'm not sure what they really do. They have a lightsaber and wield powers through the Force. I haven't met one personally, so I can only share what's available to the public about their Order."
Once the searches were finished, Panaka escorted them to the end of the hall and entered a throne room, the aforementioned chair in the center. It was nearly empty however and Harry almost missed the person standing at the window at the far end of the room. They paused halfway across at Panaka's guidance before he stepped forward, "Majesty, we have two guests that are requesting an audience with you. They claim to be here to help."
"Then you're the ambassadors promised by the Chancellor?"
Harry was surprised at the youth of the woman, despite the elaborate gown and makeup, not believing her to be over fifteen and yet she was already the queen of a planet. Covering his surprise, he took a step forward, "Majesty, my name is Harry Potter and this is my wife, Ginny. We are not of the Republic, but we've been sent by another power to assist you in anyway possible."
"Are you Jedi?" she asked a moment later.
"We are not."
"Then who sent you?"
"It's a little complicated." Harry answered, "But please believe us when I speak of our intent to protect you and your people."
"Why should I believe that as the Federation droids march down the streets?" Amidala answered, "Your purpose here could be one to attempt and subvert my rule over the people of Naboo."
"True..."
Ginny cut Harry off, "You're right, there are droids marching through the city right now. You can probably see them already from the window. Our time is short and we can either continue the questioning and get captured or we can escape to safety. We don't have the time and since we haven't attempted to assassinate you yet, you still have your freedom to reject our advice."
"You're not with the Republic and you're not with the Jedi." Amidala answered, "What can you do to prove your allegiance or even your abilities to protect me?"
Harry stopped Ginny from replying, "We haven't the time to go into anything, Majesty, but if you allow us to guard you for the moment we will prove ourselves."
Amidala noticed Panaka turning off a comlink, "What's the matter, Captain?"
"My lady, droids have entered the palace."
"Send our security forces into hiding." she ordered and then turning back to the Potters, froze realizing that they were no longer there, "They were just here."
Weapons were drawn as they realized the couple had vanished, Panaka holstered his weapon after another moment, "Interesting that they vanish after offering their services."
"We are still here, Captain." Harry announced, his voice pulling the weapons in his general direction, "Majesty, we will fight on your command only and remain at your side to protect you."
"Impressive trick," Amidala replied, "Remain hidden unless there is a danger to my life."

Following the queen closely as she and her entourage were escorted through the palace, the Potters took the exchange with the taunting Viceroy with interest. Harry was tempted to contain the Neimoidian, but after a passive scan of the being's mind, he realized that the Viceroy was merely a puppet to a larger stage, taking him would merely delay the end. Ginny was intrigued with the idea of forcing the queen to sign a document that would legalize the invasion, a strategy that was certainly risky and very political move on the Federation.
Ordered to a containment camp, they began a march through the deserted streets of the city, a small contingent of droids escorting them that Harry was confident they could take if a fight broke out. Without warning, two figures landed in front of the group and energy weapons were ignited, a short fight that saw their captors destroyed and two men identifying themselves as Jedi requested that they move out of the streets. Invisible, Harry and Ginny followed, unsure what was to follow, but with their wands drawn, they were prepared to fight for their charge.
Once they were out of the streets, the older Jedi was about to begin when his blade snapped to life and he spun to face the invisible Harry, the younger facing Ginny's location, "Reveal yourself!"
Harry felt a compulsion laced in the words and he reinforced his shielding to ignore the command, "We're protectors of the queen. We were ordered to remain hidden unless her life was in immediate danger."
"Then why do you hide?" Harry could tell the man was slightly disturbed that his command had been ignored.
"Can we trust you?" Ginny answered, a slight surprise showed for a second on the younger at her identity but it was quickly covered.
"They are Jedi, Mrs. Potter. Sent by the Republic?" the Queen intervened.
"I'm Master Qui-Gon Jinn and this is my Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi. Our third companion is a Gun-Gun that helped us through the planet's core to Theed."
"Qui-Gon?" Harry repeated, remembering the names that Sirius had explained were allies, "We were instructed to ally with you and your Padawan."
Both cancelled their charms and appeared with their wands concealed.
"Nice work on the droids back there, though we managed to deflect a pair of lasers away from the queen."
"How..."
"This is not the place for question." Qui-Gon cut off Kenobi, "We are here to ensure the safety of the queen correct? Then let us work together on finding a solution and path out of here. We were hoping to take your Majesty to Coruscant, they will kill you if you stay here."
"They wouldn't dare." one of the governor's countered, "They need her to sign a treaty to validate this occupation."
There was a brief argument within the small group, Harry and Ginny listening carefully to the ideas suggested until the Queen glanced at Harry, "What is your suggestion, Mr. Potter?"
Harry chuckled at the formality, "I insist on being called Harry, but I am merely a third party and an outsider to this galaxy. We are focused on protecting you regardless of your actions. That said, we sensed that the Viceroy is merely a puppet to another and if ordered they will execute you."
"Based on the fact they refused to meet us," Qui-Gon added, "I agree with Mr. Potter's assessment of the Viceroy's disposition, there is another controlling this occupation."
Listening to both the queen glanced at those around her and after receiving a confirmation from one of the handmaidens, she announced that they would head to Coruscant and head to the hanger where her ship was located. Marching swiftly to make up for the time lost, Harry held Ginny back, "Stay on the defensive, while they're allies, we don't need to reveal anything more than the shields. Plus, I want to see how they handle this."
She nodded and moments later, another battle began and they were not disappointed with the speed and efficiency the two Jedi dispatched the droids. Intrigued with the weapons they carried, Harry noted to himself that he would look into getting a lightsaber in the future. Boarding their first starship, they entered the cockpit with one of the freed pilots and the ship lifted out of the hanger towards the void of space.
Having only flown on a broom, both Potters watched as they accelerated towards the Federation blockade, several of the capital ships beginning to focus a fire of energy weapons at their own ship, rocking it from impacts against their shielding. A warning alarm sounded and Harry knew that it was nothing good for them, "Get ready to bank the ship."
Drawing his wand, he drew on his core for a cloaking spell of his design from his last life, "Now!"
He unleashed the spell and as the ship banked, he recognized the success of his spell as the Federation were unable to track their ship, "That should give us passage for the moment."
The pilot was frowning at the sudden ease of their escape, "What was that?"
"Invisibility is a handy tool when applied correctly." he conjured a chair without thinking, and ignoring the astonished looks of the pilots, he sat down, not even feeling the drain of his magic as the adrenaline of the escape.
"You all right, Harry?" Ginny found a seat on his lap, looking with both her eyes and magic, "Takes a lot to cloak a ship this size."
"My reserves are already replenishing. I was just hoping that I wouldn't short out the ship's power." Harry kissed her back and then glanced at the frowning pilot, their ship having passed around the blockading ships and a destination was required for the jump to lightspeed."
"We're through the blockade." Qui-Gon entered as the pilot made the announcement, "But with the hyperdrive is damaged and we won't have enough power to get to Coruscant."
"Then we'll have to make a short jump." Qui-Gon looked curiously at the couch in the middle of the cockpit before glancing over his padawan's shoulder, "There, Tatooine."
Panaka protested and after the matter was taken to the queen, the decision was made for their final destination to the planet controlled by the Hutts. Both Potters continued to listen to the arguments of destination and courses of action with a silent interest before the meeting ended and the Jedi Master requested that they join him and his Padawan for questions.
Harry sighed and as they followed the Jedi he whispered in Ginny's ear, "Never said that we'd answer them."
She giggled at his annoyance, "I'll get this one, Harry."
"You sure?"
"No, I'm confident that you'll handle their interrogation with a diplomatic ease. Just pretend you're teaching first years about magic."
"Would you like to explain further on your presence with the queen and how you're involved with this situation? To include how you recognized our names and why your source would believe we were to be allies."
"I'm Harry Potter and this is my wife, Ginerva. Though please refer to us as Harry or Ginny unless you'd like to wake up as a giant fish in the morning." Harry turned a wink to his wife who merely rolled her eyes at him.
"Where are you from?"
"What makes you think I'm not from Naboo?" Harry questioned.
Qui-Gon stared back in disbelief, his determination of discovering everything about these two before they left Tatooine beginning to take over his tolerance for question evasion.
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you." Harry grinned, sensing the patience of the man decreasing.
"How did you get to Naboo?"
"Not relevant and I'm not entirely sure. Next question."
Qui-Gon pinched the bridge of his nose, "How old are you?"
"A hundred and seventy-six of my planet's years and my wife is a year younger." Sometimes, Harry thought, the truth was far too fun.
"You don't look a day over twenty." Qui-Gon looked at his padawan and stretched out slightly to sense deceit behind the words of the man.
"You believe what you say is true, that much I can sense. Everything else is concealed behind some impressive shielding." Qui-Gon answered calmly, "Why Naboo? What are you hoping to accomplish?"
Harry paused, "We were offered a choice and accepted to come here. Our arrival on Naboo coincided with the arrival of the Trade Federation. I know you have a thousand and one questions and there are some that I can answer. We aren't from the Republic and we aren't from Naboo. At my age, I have little tolerance for dark lords, having vanquished a few in my other life. I defeated one that murdered my parents and successfully overthrew my country's government. Through all of this Ginny has been by my side. We were offered a chance to make a difference in this universe and we accepted."
"You've died?"
"On my world, there is a curse that only I have survived and at seventeen, I was hit with the curse and pronounced dead. Yesterday, our trip to Naboo was technically a death on my world."
"Then it is the will of the Force that you're here." Qui-Gon answered thoughtfully, "I can sense that much right now."
"Don't know about that." Harry shrugged, "Like I said, we're here to help the queen and so far, we haven't regretted the decision."
"How did you cloak us?" Obi-Wan asked.
"Magic."
"What?"
"You've thought we're unarmed because we don't have the same type of conventional weapons that you lot carry." Harry drew his primary wand, deciding that the elder wand could cause more questions, "I'm a wizard and my wife is a witch. It might mean something else here but we have abilities that come from within ourselves. Magic allows us to have both offensive and defensive capabilities."
"Offensive?" a woman's voice broke in and they turned to see one of the handmaidens standing there, "The queen would have rather heard these things as well, Master Jedi. She is just as curious as you both."
"My apologies, young handmaiden." Qui-Gon answered, "We were not trying to steal the information."
"Mr. Potter, you mentioned that you also have offensive capabilities. Would you be able to demonstrate anything for us to see your capabilities?"
Harry hesitated before nodding and without warning threw a mess of ropes at the girl, the conjured bindings snaking around her body and tying her in place. Her balance off, she began to tilt face first to the deck when Ginny caught her with a levitation charm and floated her a meter off the deck, "A little something we can do."
"Those ropes are real?" Qui-Gon asked, stepping over to the handmaiden and touched the bindings.
"I assure you, Master Jedi," the handmaiden struggled to free herself, "They are as real as you or I."
"That is the tip of our talents." Harry concluded by vanishing the ropes and Ginny released the levitation, "Now, we have answered your questions to an extent. What you do with that information is another matter. We have our own questions in order to determine the status of what is happening here never mind that we will no doubt have to explain this again later. Do you mind?"
"Not at all."
"We have heard of the Jedi since our arrival and your fighting against the droids was certainly impressive. Could you explain a little more about your order?" Ginny asked.
Qui-Gon nodded and knowing that they were going to eventually be taken to the Jedi Temple, he knew that they would merely be repeating themselves, "I am a Jedi Master of the Jedi Order. We are peacekeepers for the Republic and have been for the last thousand years. Obi-Wan is my Padawan Learner, a type of apprentice before he graduates and receives the rank of Knight. Jedi Knights are tasked with settling disputes within the republic and seeking out those sensitive to the Force for training as Jedi."
"How do you determine their training?"
"Finding them as infants is preferred. Attachment is not welcome by the Jedi and we try and secure the children before they become attached to their parents."
"You take them from their parents?" Ginny frowned.
"Attachment can lead a Jedi down the path of darkness, we have seen it before in our history. Children are trained from an early age by our eldest Masters before they are selected by another Master to learn one-on-one as a Padawan. They are taught to control their emotions before they reach adolescence and to resist the lure of the darkside. I am curious to the type of training you experience in your own abilities."
"We don't steal children from their parents at an early age, if that's what you're asking."
"Ginny." Harry put a hand on his wife to calm her, "We have a school for our children to start at the age of eleven, which is the age our magic begins to stabilize. We're taught several branches of magic as well as control. We have boarding schools during the year, but there is a period that the children return home with their parents."
"Harry is an exception." Ginny saw Harry pause, his memories returning to the years with the Dursely's, "He was an orphan because of his parent's murder when he was one. The 'family' he lived with had no problem labeling him an outcast and attempted to beat the magic out of him. For him and even myself, the idea that family would willingly give up their child for a chance to develop skills is a very foreign concept.
"We do not force them, Mrs. Potter." Qui-Gon answered, "Jedi are viewed on most worlds with a high respect and for a child to be chosen to train as a Jedi is, for many, a high honor. The Order becomes their new 'family' and none are abused or mistreated."
Ginny and Harry nodded, not saying more on the subject, the latter turned his focus on the weapon on the Jedi's belt, "What can I do to get one of those lightsabers?"
"The lightsaber is a weapon or tool of the Jedi." Qui-Gon ignited his weapon, the green blade shining brightly in the cargo hold, "There are few substances that are resistant to a lightsaber and is lethal in the hands of a trained Jedi. It is a symbol known around the galaxy as carried by our Order and with it, the mere presence of a Jedi can end a conflict. When we get to Coruscant, I would like you both to meet with the Jedi Council. You were right, Mr. Potter, you'll no doubt be asked to repeat quite a bit of what you said already. In addition to a demonstration."
Harry noted that Qui-Gon never explained where he could get a lightsaber, but as he was not a Jedi, chose not to chase the subject, "At least one of us will join you at the Council. No doubt it'll be myself as Ginny will be able to blend with the Queen's retinue more easy than myself."
He glanced at his wife and then at the handmaiden, the young woman listening intently almost missed that he was directing a part of that comment her way, "Of course, Mr. Potter. We could no doubt figure out a way to bring her into the senate without raising questions."
