Chapter 4:
It was after midnight, and everyone had gone to bed except for Ginny and myself. We sat in the living area on the leather couch, next to the dying fire.
" Draco Malfoy?" I asked her. She just shrugged.
" I know it is weird, but give him a chance." I rolled my eyes.
" He seems like the same old Malfoy to me. I am just waiting for him to hex me and start calling me a Mudblood!" Ginny shook her head, and grabbed both of my hands.
" Look Hermione, He really is different, and he is Blaise's best friend. I have gotten to know the real Blaise and Draco over time, and I trust that you will too. He is not the same person that we all thought he was in school." She smiled. " Neither of them are." I knew this was important to Ginny and she was not just my best friend she was my sister and I trusted her judgment.
" Ginny" I sighed " You know you're my sister and I love you ,but Malfoy… is so … so …" I was trying to find the right word, when she smiled and tried to find it for me.
" Charming?" I laughed ,and this caused her to break out in laughter as well. Ginny started to yawn. " I think I better head to bed, but please just think about giving him the benefit of the doubt … for me?" She smiled at me trying to get me to agree, but I was fighting a losing battle. " Besides its only two weeks and you never have to see him again." I smirked trying not to laugh again.
" Good night Ginny!" She made her way up a flight of stairs leading to her and Blaise's suite. She stopped halfway up the stairs.
" What your not heading to bed?"
" I think I am going to stay up for a little bit until the fire dies."
" Of course, make your self at home , but make sure you get some rest" I nodded. I stared into the fireplace for a bit just thinking about everything that Ginny had talked to me about Giving Malfoy a second chance. After all I had been able to give Blaise one. But was that because he was marrying my best friend? I decided to pull out my favorite book. I had gotten so lost in my book that I lost track of time ,and hadn't realized how late it had gotten. It was nearing 3 in the morning. I heard some one behind me as the wood floor creaked. I quickly gasped and looked up from my book to come face to face with Malfoy. He wasn't wearing a shirt ,just black boxer shorts. I instantly blushed , and turned around As soon as I noticed how little he wore.
" Oh! I'm sorry I didn't realize any one was still up" He said as he walked toward me. I stood up, holding my book over my eyes. I walked very carefully away so to not face him.
" Oh, uh.. No I was just …" I apparently wasn't watching where I was going and backed up into the wall, hitting my head. " ouch!" He was now laughing at me. Clearly he was getting amusement out of my embarrassment. He walked over to me, so he was now standing behind me. I turned around un aware of how close he was and gasped. I remembered what Ginny had said about giving him a second chance. And then my eyes averted to his bare muscular chest. I quickly snapped out of it.
" What are you doing still up, and sitting in the dark?" Draco folded his arms across his chest ,and smirked down at me. Draco was only a few inches taller than I was, but towered over me nicely.
" I couldn't sleep ,so I stayed up reading by the fire." I said trying to defend myself. " What are you doing up?" He shook hi head smirking at me.
" First of all Granger , I'm not interrogating you , you don't have to be so defensive. Second of all I don't really sleep." I looked up at him. " Insomnia." I just nodded. He reached up, and grabbed the book that was shielding my eyes, from my hand. " What are you doing?" I was almost thankful that it was so dark in here that he couldn't see how red my face was.
" Not everyone wants to see that much of you!" he laughed ,as he watched as I closed my eyes.
" It's ok Granger, you can admit it,"
" Admit what?"
" You fancy me, just like every other woman!" Oh my god he was so full of himself , it made me sick. I shook my head.
" You are so arrogant! Not every one wants to get with you Malfoy." I could feel how fast my heart in my chest was beating. Even though the fire was going down the room was getting warmer, and I wanted to get out of this room so bad.
" Then why wont you look at me?" he moved closer to me.
" Because I don't want to… and why are you not wearing any clothes?"
" Well like I said I don't really sleep, and I had no idea that anyone would be up at this late hour. I needed a drink of water." He smirked " I never expected to find you sitting out here." I really felt bad. He wasn't intentionally trying to harass or bug me. I nodded as he answered me.
" I'm sorry. I will leave you alone. I was just about to go to bed any way. He stared at me as I made my way down the hall to my room.
I closed the door and laid down on the queen sized pillow top bed. I instantly drifted off to sleep.
I was sitting on the couch at The Burrow, and I looked to my left to see Ron sitting next to me smiling. I remembered this, It was right after we first started to date officially. I looked at him and giggled.
" What is it? Why do you keep staring at me?" I asked Ron.
" It's just when I look at you I can see the future in your eyes." I blushed and smiled back at him.
" Oh yea? And what do you see in our future?" He put a hand through his hair and grinned. He didn't say a word. " Ron… Ron… Ronald?" He started to fade away…
I woke up quickly in a sweat, gasping breath. This is why I hated sleeping, and why I rarely got any sleep. I was always haunted my nightmares of my past. I hated that I never could forget, and have something else haunt my sleep.
