The Trouble With Weddings
A Harry Potter Fan Fiction Story
Chapter 38:
When I apparated back to the Hogwarts castle, I made it to my room and started to unpack. I wasn't surprised to find that not much had changed here. The halls were still filled with anxious students, and even mischievous ones, that sent others to the hospital wing. I couldn't wait to get back to work, I really did miss seeing the students everyday, and hearing the stories that went on in the castle. After I was unpacked I changed into my healer robes, and headed down to the hospital wing to see Madame Pomphrey.
I opened the door to her office, it was rather surprising to me to find the infirmary empty.
" Ms. Granger?" She looked up at me surprised to see me back so soon.
" Hello Madame Pomphrey" I sat down on one of her chairs by her desk.
" Not that I am not happy to see you, but what are you doing back so soon? I didn't expect you for at lest a few more days." I sighed, and shrugged.
" I just…" trying to pick my words carefully. " Needed to come back is all" She looked at me suspiciously.
" Hermione Granger you take your work too seriously" I smiled, because I wasn't sure if that was a compliment or not.
" It's just who I am" She gave me a long hard stare, trying to figure something out about me, it was like she could see right through me.
" There is something different about you!" I shook my head, and laughed.
" No, I don't think so" I lied through my teeth, the last thing I needed were teachers and staff on my back about what had happened. She shook her head at me.
" Alright, well if your sure, you can start after supper tonight." I stood up.
" Thank you" I said just happy to get back to work.
She just nodded to me and I made my way down the halls. As I walked time seemed to stand still, like everyone else was walking in slow motion and I was stuck from moving any where.
I walked into the courtyard, and watched from the Quidditch pitch in the distance Slytherin was practicing. I leaned up against a pillar and sighed. I didn't even notice Head mistress McGonagall behind me. She cleared her throat, and I turned around instantly.
" Oh, Head mistress you gave me a fright!" I grabbed my chest, trying to catch my breath.
" A little jumpy?" I shrugged.
" I guess you could say that, just lost in thought." She nodded and stared at me for a good while.
" Well it's good to have you back, how was the wedding?" I bit my lip and tried not to think about Draco at all, but I couldn't help it. All of the memories that we shared together come back in a rush to haunt me.
" It was … nice" I sighed, and looked over at the Quidditch pitch again. " The ceremony was beautiful, and I am very happy for Ginny and Blaise." I couldn't take my eyes off the game going on, and the Head mistress gave me a knowing stare, like she knew there was something I was hiding. I wouldn't be surprised if she just knew, like she just knew things my friends and I did growing up. She was very much like Dumbledore that way. She cleared her throat and I snapped back to face her.
" Ms. Granger, are you alright?"
" Hmm?" I asked
" You seem distracted, especially since I had mentioned the wedding, did something happen?" I felt my stomach drop and tried not to tear up.
" I promise I am… Fine, and it wont affect my work, so you have nothing to worry about" I made my way to my room. I couldn't do this right now. As I walked off McGonagall whispered to herself staring down the hall as I walked off.
" I am not worried about your work my dear, just your heart" She really did just have a way of knowing everything.
When I made it back to my room I decided to write Ginny, and explain what happened. I told her everything in the letter, and everything that I felt. I needed my friend right now. So I sealed up the envelope and send my owl to her.
It had been about two weeks since the wedding and I left to come back to work. Ginny and I had written back and forth since I had sent her my owl. She said that she could tell how hard I was falling even before I knew it. I apologized for ruining her wedding and she yelled at me telling me that it was not my fault and I didn't ruin anything. I really missed her, I had to make time to go visit on my next break.
Ginny had just received another owl letter from me. Her and Blaise lived in Ireland. They decided to move there when Ginny had mentioned to Blaise that she had always wanted to go. They went on there honeymoon, but they both fell on love with the country that they bought property there. Ginny stood in the kitchen ,making a chocolate cake When she heard some one behind her. She gasped and turned around. There behind her stood Draco Malfoy. He must have apparated in.
" Hello Ginny" She just stared at him like she had seen a ghost, she didn't know what to say. The last time that she had seen him was when he stormed off the dance floor at her wedding, and then apparated out of everyone's life, and breaking her best friends heart.
" Draco… what are you doing here?" She folded her arms and he could sense that she was a little upset about the way he left her wedding, and he assumed that I told her what had happened with us. He rubbed the back of his head nervously. He looked as though he hadn't shaved in days, because he had a scruffy appeal to his face, which not surprisingly made him even more handsome than he already was.
" I was hoping to talk with you and Blaise"
" Blaise isn't home" She sighed. " And we haven't heard from you since you left our wedding with out a word." She was upset with him and he knew it. He had been tormenting himself lately with guilt and pain. He knew that he had made the biggest mistake of his life and he needed to make it right.
" I know, I really am sorry. I want to make it up to the both of you, really what ever you want.." She rolled her eyes. She didn't like the idea of being bought, but she would hear him out. She waited for him to say something. He hesitated but continued. " How is she?" She raised an eyebrow and sat down sighing.
" How do you think she is? I mean honestly Draco!" She snapped.
" Ah so she told you?"
" She didn't have to tell me, I found her outside the hall in the pouring rain staring at the night sky and it wasn't until I mentioned you that she started sobbing her eyes out. Her heart is broken." She took a breath. " From what I gather, you fixed her heart and then …" Draco looked at the table and looked just as hurt as I felt.
" I was an idiot, and I never meant to hurt her, I love her!" She laughed at him as he said that. " It's true!" He defended himself.
" Well then why don't you explain to me why you would do it in the first place!"
" Why so that you can criticize me and tell me how much of a jerk I am for hurting your best friend?" This time Ginny's expression changed after she looked him over, she smirked.
" No, I am going to help you to get her back" She watched his expression. " That is if you think your man enough?"
