The Trouble With Weddings
A Harry Potter Fan Fiction Story
Chapter 42:
Draco sat in Head Mistress McGonagall's office, and began to sweat. He had told her the entire story of the wedding, and how he and I had a connection, and that he had made the biggest mistake of his life and now he was here to fix it. He needed her help, and knew she had a soft spot for me and my friends since my first year at Hogwarts. She listened to everything that he had to say carefully.
" Mr. Malfoy, I am aware of the major transformation that you and your mother have made after the war. You both changed your views on Muggles, and muggle borns. You spend many hours trying to help transform Hogwarts back into restoration. Most of all you helped make a better name for Malfoy, so I know you are being genuine with your feelings" She leaned forward, " There is just one thing I have to ask" He took a deep breath afraid of what she would say. " If you indeed have fallen in love with Ms. Granger, and she has fallen in love with you as well, what makes you think she will open her heart back up?"
" Head Mistress, I don't know if she will or she should I just know that I have to try. Love is not some thing I have felt often, and for my childhood enemy at that, but I hurt her, and if I cant get her back I want to make it right. So all I am asking from you is a little help. Is there anything you can do for me?" Draco seemed to be very calm and poised but on the inside he was as scared as a lost child. She smiled and nodded her head.
" Mr. Malfoy I will help you , but I will not be responsible if your plan backfires, and I will not risk the safety and well being of my students and staff." She made sure to emphasize the staff part letting him know that I was a big part of that. He just nodded and smiled in return. " If you are interested I can have you guest speak in some of our classes, as an alumni you are entitled to some privileges, and of course you can stay one of our guest rooms." Draco seemed to be pleased.
" Thank you" He stood up and she handed him a key to his room, and told him to be on his best behavior because even though he wasn't a student any more, he was representing Hogwarts.
He walked to the door.
" Oh, and Mr. Malfoy?" He turned around , " Good Luck!" He nodded. It meant a lot that he had her approval.
This was a new day and I felt good, I had a good idea about today. I made my way down to the infirmary, and started off my day on a good note. After my morning run I was able to calm down from yesterday, and Draco's guest appearance back into my life, but now that it was over I could move on.
" Good morning Hermione, you look pleasant today" Madame Pomphrey said to me, handing me a new chart. I smiled back at her, and shrugged, flipping through the chart. It was a first year; Amber Stone. She was in Gryffindor. She was a very bright student much like myself, and she seemed to have broken her wrist falling off of her broom. I walked over to her bed and she moaned.
" Hello, Amber don't worry hun, we will fix you. We are going to have to re-grow your bones that were broken and that is a tricky process, and it is painful, so I apologize in advance." She couldn't speak because of the pain, but I gave her a potion to take In the mean time. The potion was my own recipe that I had created from the original that my mentor originally used, but I updated some of the ingredients and it was supposed to be less painful.
Draco got up around 5:00, and remembered that this was normally the time I would be out running. He couldn't sleep, but he couldn't risk making me run away yet, again so he just got up and started to walk around the castle. It brought back some old memories, just wondering the corridors, and then it brought a smirk to his face remembering the shenanigans that he was usually up to. McGonagall gave him the privilege to guest speak in classes ,so he chose potions, after all it was his favorite class. After the war, they couldn't find an exceptional potions master since Slughorn decided to go back into retiring, so they made the first ghost in the castle a Professor; Professor Severus Snape.
He walked into the class, and it was like nothing had changed at all.
" Class today we have a guest" He spoke in his normal monotonous voice looking at Draco. " This is Draco Malfoy and he will be showing you all how to brew some advanced potions. For those of you who choose to not pay attention or care he has the authority to take points and authorize detention… with me" The class was a 6th year split Gryffindor, and Slytherin class.
" For those of you who think you can do it, were going to be performing a very complex potion… for time travel." Snape looked up at him with worry for an instant, but knowing his God soon he soon understood why and knew the potion was harmless with out the spell. " It should take about a week to completely finish and brew correctly. Draco looked around and there was one Gryffindor girl with her hand raised. He nodded and she spoke.
" I'm sorry but the only magical device that can time travel is a time turner, and they are extremely rare, there is no know n spell for time travel!" She said proudly. She reminded him of a miniature me. He smirked.
" Well… Miss…" He looked at her waiting for her name.
" Wood Sir, Helena Wood!"
" Well yes Miss. Helena Wood you are right there is no KNOWN potion for time travel, which is why we are going to create it here, with Professor Snape's permission of course" He looked to the ghost Professor sitting in the corner of the room. He grinned and it was a weird look on him. Professor Snape stood up, and everyone looked at Malfoy dumbfounded as they couldn't actually believe what he was saying.
" Mr. Malfoy is in charge, pair up and complete the potion accordingly!" Snape demanded and went into his office to leave Malfoy in charge to create a potion that doesn't exist yet, but he knew what he was doing ,and he had an idea.
Later that night after my shift I sat in the Great Hall for Dinner, and I saw Draco again, he was still here, but why thought to my self. He was coming toward me, oh gosh he was going to make a scene, I felt my heart skip a beat. He actually came and sat next to me. I looked over at him with frustration. Just before I could question why he was here again, Head mistress McGonagall stood up on the podium and was ready to make and announcement. I looked up and tried not ot look at Draco who was smiling at me.
" Attention students may I have your attention?" She projected throughout the Great Hall, and soon it was filled with silence. " I have a special treat for you, and many of you already in the advanced potions class are already aware of our special guest." I froze she couldn't mean… No I thought I shook my head. " Alumnus and former expert potions student is going to be spending the upcoming week working with those students to create a potion for time travel!" The Hall erupted with cheers, but I sent my expression to Draco. I didn't know what he had up his sleeve but it couldn't be good. The room clapped and Draco stood up. I couldn't believe his arrogance, so I quietly got up and left making my way to my room.
" Where are you going?" I laughed to my self and turned around.
" Apparently I cant get away from you, and I have to be stuck seeing you around the castle for a week" I rushed toward him. " Do you even know what your doing? Time travel is tricky enough that is why the only know magical way for it is a time turner and they are extremely rare!" He just smirked at me and folded his arms.
" For your information, I do know what I am doing, it is something I have been trying to perfect for years, and what better way to test it out is with a class of eager students looking to learn a new potion." He shrugged. " Why does it bother you so much?"
" Don you get it? You are making it harder…" He stepped closer to me making my heart race.
" Harder to what Hermione…. To hate me? To ignore me… or to fall out of love with me?" His words stung, but they were true, and I hated to admit it ,which is why I didn't , I just bowed my head and stared at his polished shoes.
He brought his hand under my chin, and lifted my head to look him in the eye.
" You don't get it…" I said but then turning away to go to my room.
" No, you don't get it…" He sighed as I was out of sight now. " I love you" he whispered down the hall hopping some how I heard that.
