1985

"I'm sorry to come at this hour ma'am but-"

"What? Get on with it, it's almost midnight and I want to go to bed,"

"Yes, well, there was an accident involving your son and his wife and daughter. I'm sorry but, your granddaughter is the only one who survived."

A small girl who was eight years old with blue hair that went an inch pass her shoulders and matching blue eyes wondered around the old Castle, curious. She had never seen such a big place before.

She'd been here a few weeks but this is the first time she went exploring. She went into one of the rooms that was filled with books and had a fire place.

Above the fire place was a painting of an old man. He had long silver hair in a low ponytail with a matching silver beard that also had a ponytail at the end. He had a light purple long sleeved shirt on and black pants with brown boots that went up to his thighs. He was holding a sword in his right hand and looked proud.

"Kanna, what are you doing?" the girl jumped and turned around. An old woman with short silver hair came in the room, leaning on a cane.

"Whose that grandma?" Kanna asked her. She didn't really like the old woman.

"Hmm, oh, that's Old Iron Ashcroft," she said, sitting in a chair by the fire. "He was a knight for the Bismarch Family years ago, way before your grandmother was born."

"That's hard to believe," Kanna muttered.

"Show respect for your elders," The old woman snapped, hitting Kanna in the arm with her cane. "Damn kids. Anyway, as I was saying he was a knight and did jousting and won every battle. He brought pride to this family."

"If he was so great what happened?" Kanna asked.

"Got wounded in a battle and ended up dieing."

Kanna looked around the old dungeon, wondering what was down here, rubbing her arm. "A knight huh…" she thought. To be honest, when her mother would read her stories about princesses and knights saving them it made her a little sick. Girls weren't so weak that they needed someone to save them, well, she wasn't like that. She thought back to the car accident that had happened just weeks ago. No one helped her out of the car. She had to drag herself out. Her parents were already dead and it was a good ten minutes before anyone arrived to help.

"Their such a joke," she said, kicking random object.

"Hey, that's important missy!" Kanna turned around to see a familiar person.

"Your that old Ashcroft guy," she said.

"Yes, I am." he said.

"But…your supposed to be dead, the hag said you got yourself killed." Kanna crossed her arm.

"Of course I'm dead, I'm a spirit brat," the old man said angrily.

"Don't call me a brat you damn old man," Kanna hissed.

"Whatever you who are you anyway?"

"Kanna Bismarch," she said, sitting down on a old chest that was there.

"Ah, so you're the granddaughter old that woman," Kanna's face darkened.

"That old hag hates me, just because my mother was Jewish so she hates me." she said. "I can't wait till she's gone."

"Hmm, such an evil child, how old are you?"

"Why does that matter?"

"Just answer."

"Why would I answer an old man who asks how old I am?" Kanna crossed her arms. Ashcroft laughed.

"You got guts girl, I think we'll get along." he said.

"Whatever." Kanna stood up and headed for the stairs.

"Where are you going?" Ashcroft called after her.

"Away from you."

"Hey, isn't that the girl whose parents died in that accident?"

"Poor thing, at such a young age. Her grandmother's so kind to take her in."

Kanna felt a twig of annoyance at these whispers. She hated pity. And hated how everyone seem to think her grandmother was kind. She doubt they would say that if they heard the verbal abuse her and her mother got from that woman, even if it wasn't said to them.

Flashback

"Mother, I told you, I love her and my daughter." she remembered hearing her father say to her.

"Son, she's a Jew, a Witch. And that child's going to end up the same."

"Mother, no she isn't. why must you-"

"You didn't live when I did. Hitler had the idea, he-"

"He was a manic! A mad man." Her father shouted. "Stop living in the past."

End of Flashback

"Damn Hag," she muttered. There were people in village like that. Thought she was a witch. Not many but they were there.

"You're the girl that was talking to Old Ashcroft!"

Kanna turned around to see a creepy spirit of an old man, far older the Ashcroft, standing there.

"Who are you and how did you know I talked to that man?" She asked. People passing by gave her a weird look and she didn't understand why. Couldn't they see him?

"You can see us, you can see us!" the old man said excitedly, getting closer to her.

"Of-of course I can see you," Kanna stood her ground, refusing to be frightened. "Why wouldn't I?"

"They can't see us, you can" Suddenly more spirits appeared. Kanna's eyes narrowed as she backed away.

"With you we can live again"

"We can be whole"

"We can feel"

"Become one with us child"

"Be our friend"

"Let us have your body"

"GET AWAY!" Kanna turned around and started running. Who was she kidding, she was scared!

People starred at her as she ran. She looked over her shoulder and saw that spirits had disappeared. She turned a corner and leaned against the wall, catching her breath.

"You should be more careful who you talk to Lady Kanna," Kanna looked up and saw Ashcroft's spirit.

"A…Ashcroft…" she panted. "You were…following me?" Even breathless you could hear the anger in her voice.

"Don't use that tone with me, you should be grateful," Ashcroft snapped.

"That I was being followed?" Kanna sneered. "Even as a ghost you're a creeper."

"If I didn't those evil spirits would have possessed you kid"

Kanna blinked. "Why would they posses me? There are other people who-"

"No one else here can see spirits. Only you and your mother could see them before but you lived in the next town. When they found out the decided to use your powers to their advantage."

"Oh…" for once she was speechless. She hated the idea of being rescued. Hated it since her no one helped her parents. But she had to admit, Ashcroft helping her just now was…comforting. Not that she would say it out loud. She'd rather claw her eyes out then admit that.

"Why would you help me anyway old man?" Kanna asked.

"Hmm," Ashcroft thought about it. "I like you. You've got an attitude that most kids don't have at your age which means your tough."

1990

Kanna ran up the path as fast as she could, glancing over her shoulder to make sure they were still following her. She was thirteen now, her hair reaching the middle of her back. She looked the same just taller and had bruises on her arms and legs. She had stared going to school when she was ten and just happened to be in a class that hated her. They see her talking to Ashcroft but since that can't see him they think she's talking herself. So they started bullying her. She didn't take it lying down though. She would fight back and get sent home to get yelled at and hit with a cane by her grandmother.

Right now she was being chased by a group of boys and she pretended to be scared. In reality she was annoyed and angry and had a plan to scare them. She figured out a trick with Ashcroft and was going to put in to use.

She ran down a passage way she found that lead to the old dungeon and hide behind some old stuff.

"Where'd she go?"

"I think I saw her run down there!"

"Let's get her."

She listened as they ran down the stone steps and started kicking stuff trying to find her.

"Hey check this out." she peeked out of her hiding place to see three boys starring at the old suit of armour.

"Think it's real?"

"Ha! It's fake, see?" when the leader went to kick it she yelled, "Now Ashcroft!"

A metal arm swung out and hit the kid in the head, sending him to the ground.

"Fuck…what the-?" he looked up, eyes wide as the armour started to move, eyes glowing red.

"W-Witch craft!" one of his friends shouted.

"She is one!"

"Run!"

In five seconds they were running away, screaming.

"Wimps," Kanna sneered, sitting on an old chest.

"You are a cruel person Lady Kanna," Ashcroft said. "I love it."

"They had it coming." She flipped her hair out of her face. She was sick of how they would do this stuff over and over again. "Maybe now they'll get the message and get lost."

1992

"Hey look, it's her."

"Where?"

"There, see the blue hair?"

"Don't look, they say if you stare into her eyes you'll be set on fire."

"Is that true?"

"She's a Jew, of course it is."

"And a witch. Remember what she did to the guys a few years ago?"

"Oh yeah, didn't she send a demon on them?"

The girl in question kicked a rock as hard as she could, watching as it went flying towards the girls that were gossiping about her and smirk when they shrieked and ran away.

"Losers…" she muttered, pulling her coat closer to her. Her blue hair that reatched to her waist blew around her, her bangs covering her blue eyes. Kanna Bismarch was fifteen now, and already her life was more miserable. It seemed that in the time that she lived there everyone hated her. Especially the Nazi retards. Sure, she was Jewish but because of her grandmother she didn't practice the religion so she didn't think herself as one even though her mother was proud of who she was.

"Get lost freak." Kanna ducked in time as a rock came flying her way. She turned to glare at the person who threw it.

"Work on your aim Old Man," she said. A boy with blond hair and blue eyes glared at her.

"It's Altman you witch," he hissed.

"What did you call me?" Kanna took a step towards him and he one back.

"Witch. That's why your parents are dead. Your father married that Witch and then had you. My father says that he killed her then himself because he was ashamed that he married a Ho-"

!SMACK!

Altman fell back as Kanna punched him right in the face.

"Don't talk about me or my parents like that you little shit," she said menacingly.

"Your going to pay for that." soon she was surrounded.

Foot steps echoed as Kanna walked with her hands in her jean pockets, glaring at the ground. 'Great, now I'm gonna get scolded by the old hag' she thought, annoyed. She had some cuts on her arms and face that weren't there before and bruises were already forming.

She stopped in front of a pair of doors and knocked.

"Come in Kanna."

An old woman of eighty-five years sat in one of the chairs by a fire that was the only thing providing light in the room. Along the walls were book cases filled with old books that Kanna doubt anyone ever read. The old woman gestured for her to sit in the chair across from her.

"I heard you got into another fight," she said, sipping some tea.

"Yeah," the blue haired girl muttered.

"What reason was it this time?" Her grandmother sounded somewhat annoyed.

"It's his own damn fault, him and everyone else keep saying it's my fault their dead, that I'm the reason their gone!" Kanna burst out, standing.

"Sit down girl your acting ridiculous." Her grandmother said impatiently. Kanna sat bad down, her arms crossed.

"Why do I have to go into town anyway, your not helpless," She muttered, earning a hit in the leg from a cane.

"Show respect for your dear Grandmother child, she's getting old." the woman hissed. "You should stop getting into fights, I didn't raise you to-"

"You didn't raise me. My parents did." Kanna snapped.

"And they did a bad job of it, especially that woman."

" 'That woman' was my mother!" Kanna jumped out of the chair to avoiding getting it with the cane.

"Don't raise your voice at me," she hissed. "Now get out of my sight you little…"

Muttering under her breath, Kanna went to her room to change into black pants and a white tank top. She hated it here. She never understood her grandmothers need to stay in the dump.

"ASHCROFT!"

The spirit appeared immediately.

"What is it Lady Kanna?" he asked.

"I hate this place, if I had the money I'd leave right now," Kanna said angrily.

"I don't blame you. She is an old hag that doesn't understand anything"

"Says the old creeper," Kanna muttered under her breath.

"What did you say?"

"You heard me!"

They glared at each other as they had one of their regular arguments. They didn't have them as often as before but when they did it was just short ones, they didn't mean anything. It just showed how close they were in their own way.

Kanna spent the afternoon down there, enjoying what rare silence she had, when she heard a scream.

"What the-"

"Spirit of Fire, go check if there's anyone in there."

A boy with long dark brown hair stood outside of an old castle, an amused smile on his face when he heard a scream and saw flames shoot out from a top window.

"Hao-Sama, why are we here?"

"Because there is a girl I heard rumours about Peyote," The boy named Hao said calmly. The Spirit of Fire appeared in front of him, shaking it's head then pointed to a cellar door that had one door open. Walking over towards there, Hao continued, "If her powers are like I suspect, she will be the last member of one of the teams I need for the upcoming Shaman Fight."

"I see."

Peyote opened the other door and followed him down the stone steps.

"ASHCROFT!" A suit of armour came towards Hao as he reatched the bottom. Immediately the Spirit of Fire was there in front of him, sending the armour into a wall making it fall apart.

Hao could see smoke that wasn't from the S.O.F inside the armour. He looked towards a girl that stood against the wall, glaring at him. Her hair covered her right eye but her gaze showed anger but also sadness. In her hand was a candle, an unusual amount of smoke coming from it.

"Impressive, you already know how to make Over Soul," he said.

"Who are you?" she snapped, ignoring his words.

"Be respectful to Hao-Sama!" Peyote snapped at her but Hao chuckled.

"Calm down Peyote," he said. "You don't have to worry, I am not an enemy."

"Why are you here then?" Her eyes narrowed more.

"I know that you hate the people here, and that you wish to get away." Hao said. "I also know you are called a witch even though you're a Shaman."

"What's your point?"

"If you come with me, I can make a world where no one will misunderstand you the way these Humans have. I can make a world where you can live in peace."

The girl hesitated for a second. "And how can I believe that?"

"You can come see for yourself," Hao told her. "If you don't like what you see, you may leave if you want."she didn't say anything for awhile. She knew that nothing good would happen if she stayed here, and there was something about this kid that made her feel welcomed.

"Ashcroft, assemble," she said suddenly. Peyote blinked, shocked at how easily the armour went back together.

She followed them out of town, never giving a backwards glance to the castle that light up the night sky.

"How did she do that Hao-Sama?" Peyote asked.

"Hmm? Oh you mean with the armour?" Hao chuckled. "She's smart. I think she figured that people would think the armour as her Medium, when in actuality it's the smoke. It's very cunning."

Kanna was silent the whole time. Ashcroft followed, not pleased.

"Are you sure you can trust him?" he asked her.

"You saw his spirit. He's powerful even though he's just a kid…" her voice trailed off as she watched the kid ahead of her. He couldn't be more then eight years old at the most.

After a few minutes they came to a group of people. The sun was just rising so some where asleep while a few sat around a fire talking quietly.

What caught her attention was two little girls sleeping side by side. One had long blonde hair in pigtails and was clutching a doll to her chest while the other had bright orange that went to her shoulders, beside her was a doll with a black cape and a pumpkin head. Creepy.

"Who're they?" she asked Hao.

Hao smiled softly, but there was a sad look in his eyes. "Their the two I told you about. The ones that were also called witches because of their powers. The blonde one is named Marion Phauna but she likes to be called Mari. Her parents gave her a doll for her birthday and a gun but didn't realise in doing so they also passed on the spirit of a man named Chuck who made her powers stronger. Since they couldn't see spirits they thought she was going crazy and was possessed by a witch. When they tried attacking her to 'Get the Evil Spirit out' Chuck shot them while he possessed her doll, which is his Medium."

"Really," Kanna muttered. She couldn't believe that would actually happen. "What about her?" she nodded to the Red Head.

"Matilda Matisse, or Macchi. In her village, she was the one with orange hair and that automatically made her an outcast. Her mother had an affair but fearing her husbands anger, told him that a dying witch put a spell on her to sleep with some stranger so she could be reborn in her womb. Then the couple chased her out of the house."

"And he believed that?" Kanna said in disgust.

"Well, she had a brother named Isaac. He was jealous of how their brother and mother would pay Macchi so much attention. So when he discovered that she could see spirits, he used that to his advantage and blackmailed his mother to get rid of her."

"And whose her spirit," Kanna eyes the doll that she suspected was the girls Medium.

"Jack the Ripper." Hao answered calmly.

"You mean…that killer?" Kanna said in disbelief.

"The very same." Hao yawned. "I'm going to get some sleep. You can stay with these two if you like," he added, walking away.

Kanna sat down, starring at the two children. To be honest she never liked kids. She found them annoying. But she had feeling she could learn to like these two.

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW HARD IT WAS TO WRITE THIS? I HAD NO INFO ON KANNA, WHAT INFO I HAD ON ASHCROFT WAS HARD TO UNDERSTAND, AND GAH!

Ok, now that I've calmed down, I'll explain a few things about this chapter. The reason why I made Kanna Jewish in this was because I needed a reason to why people and her grandmother didn't like her. Mari's was her parents didn't want an imperfect child, Macchi's was her mom had an affair and her brother hated her, and since Kanna's from Germany I thought that would be a good reason.

Anyway there are going to be two more chapters then it's done. Please review and tell me what you thought of this chapter! Good? Bad? Okay? Horrible?
