Flashpoint: UA High, Day 3
The various members of 1-A filed into the classroom, all very clearly being teenagers the day after something exciting. They all walked with the muffled energy of "adrenaline kept me awake longer than was good for me" (except for Todoroki, Yaoyorozu, and Bakugo) and chatting in the new friend sets formed yesterday.
Some like Mina and Kirishima were still riding the high a little and enthusiastically trading notes on their performances. Others like Todoroki and Bakugo were simply already past it and ignoring everything not immediately relevant.
Despite the powerful teenage skill of utter disregard for authority, they all made sure to be seated, quiet, and looking at their teacher before the bell finished ringing. Had it been a mad scramble when they all heard it start? No. Definitely not. They had been calm and filing in to do exactly that and any statements to the contrary by one Tenya Iida were to be regarded as filthy, filthy lies.
Regardless of how, they were all where they had to be as they tried to hold steady under the gaze of one Shota Aizawa, their homeroom teacher.
"I saw all your performances yesterday. I have several notes regarding your costumes, specifically on how to make them field-friendly. I will be going over them with you during your study hall later today. Besides that…Bakugo." The blonde (no no, the ash blonde) moved his attention to the podium. "I barely got the principal to not move forward with charges for attempted murder. You almost brought the building down. As it is, you're facing 3 weeks of after-school detention with me." Bakugo's jaw had dropped halfway through the first sentence and was barely able to nod in understanding.
"Midoriya. You're going to be staying after school for the next week for quirk consultation and practice. You broke your arm in a school exercise. You're getting help to make sure that doesn't happen again. Understood?"
A quick shift of the eyes. "This applies to you as well, Kaminari. Don't think I didn't see you stumbling around after one attack." The green teen shrunk in his seat, barely able to stammer out "y-y-yes sir." The blonde (no, the yellow one) could only nod meekly.
Eraserhead's attention shifted once again. "Todoroki." The normally apathetic teenager was ramrod straight and regarding his teacher in a new light. "Your strength may have been sufficient to win the exercise, but your unwillingness to make sure your teammate knew what your plan was could be dangerous in the field."
The teacher's attention was finally on the class as a whole. "These lessons apply to ALL of you. Control, level-headedness, and communication are all mandatory skills if you're going to be a pro hero, no matter how strong, experienced or underground of a hero you are. Remember that you're in school. Use every resource you have as students to improve."
The students made various noises of assent and understanding, except for Iida and Midoriya, who were both taking furious notes. 'Is that a fresh notebook? How does he keep getting those? What is he filling them with?'
"Now then, you've all got something important to do today." Intense anticipation filled the room. "You're picking class representatives."
[Cue canon]
As the students fell into file once more to go to lunch, one of them remained standing by the door. Rocking back and forth on her heels, punk rocker Kyoka Jiro waited until everyone else had left. Aizawa, who had been standing at the podium, turned to her. "Yes, Miss Jiro?"
Even outside of classroom mode, a six-foot tall scarecrow capable of rendering you powerless at will was utterly terrifying as an authority figure. Jiro experienced something very, very rare as a wannabe singer: she stumbled over her words. "Uh, well. um. uhh." She tugged at her collar. Aizawa simply waited patiently. "Ahhhh"
Finally, the words made their way out. "Sir, I read the school handbook and it says UA has a zero tolerance policy for sexual harassment, is that true?" As relatively tense as he'd been (as a pro hero and teacher of superpowered teenagers, he couldn't really relax, ever. 'How did the rat loop me into this again?'), at this Aizawa had gone very, very still.
His voice came out at normal volume, but incredibly dangerous. "Yes it is, young lady. Why do you ask?"
Jiro was now very well aware she was in the presence of someone capable of turning grown men into pretzels. "T-th-the-there's a people- I mean a peephole- in the girl's locker room. I heard Mineta trying to look through it yesterday. He was also saying really gross things about a bunch of the other girls." She was shivering a little bit now, even being aware that her teacher's clear readiness to pounce was not directed at her.
"Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Jiro. You may go to lunch. Rest assured that I will be handling this." Jiro mirrored Kaminari's reaction from earlier, simply nodding meekly as she walked backwards out the door. Even knowing he was (probably?) on her side here, the human instinct of "never turn your back to a dangerous creature" was a strong one. She was around the corner of the door before she turned around and started power walking toward the cafeteria.
She had barely gotten into line before the school's PA system rang out. ["Minoru Mineta, please report to Principal Nedzu's office. I repeat, Minoru Mineta, please report to the Principal's office."]
[Cue more canon in the cafeteria]
Mineta still wasn't back by study hall.
With his usual sense of drama, their teacher explained before they could ask.
"Mineta will not be returning to UA. He violated a very important rule yesterday. I'm somewhat disappointed that no one brought this to my attention sooner, but I can understand given yesterday's excitement. However" Aizawa's eyes and hair flared. "should something of this nature happen again, I expect an immediate report of said behavior. Failure to do so will result in my treating you as approving of or otherwise aiding the perpetrator of that behavior. Am I understood?"
A murmur of agreement.
"I said, am I understood?"
The class sat at attention. "YES, SENSEI."
"Good. Now do whatever homework or studying you have to do. I'll be calling you out into the hall one by one for your costume review."
Jiro found herself…relaxed. This hadn't been the first time she had reported a creep, but it was the first time the offender had suffered such final consequences immediately.
UA was gonna be even better than she thought.
A/N: We all knew this was coming. As several fics have pointed out before, Mineta isn't as much of a grapist in canon as fanon makes him. That doesn't mean he isn't, just that he's exaggerated a bit. But even a bit here, especially on the second day of school, of HERO SCHOOL no less, should be dealt with.
I figured that an Aizawa who had proven himself a reasonable adult would be an Aizawa whose students would be willing to try going to him with their concerns. Aizawa in canon is a fantastic guardian, willing to fight to the death for his students. But he is clearly a shitty teacher, who has made sure his students won't approach him via…you all watch/read, you know what I'm talking about.
Til next time, friends, enemies, and those under review. Coming up next is the monthly book club, hosted by Cementoss.
