The walk had been spur of the moment. Both taken in by the rays of sun that had begun to emerge outside their window.
So, when Yugi felt the first drops of rain land on his cheek, he lamented not having come prepared.
The world was so new to Atem. Unable to resist his excitement when they came across anything curiosity inducing, like an unusual street vendor or performer, Yugi often found himself racing along into situations he may not have otherwise, all too keen to please the other.
As the rain began to come down harder, they both paused in their appreciation of a particularly tall flower. Yugi grasped the others hand, leading him to the little tea house that lay at the heart of the park.
They took a seat under the small balcony that looked out over the park and watched as the world turned shiny and gray once more, making the vibrant colors of the plants stand out all the brighter. Atem nestled closer to Yugi beneath the other's jacket which they now had tossed over their shoulders.
"It's possibly even more beautiful this way," Atem said beside him.
And at that, Yugi could hardly mind getting caught in the rain. Especially with Atem. Through who's eyes he too had learned to appreciate the world anew.
What was also new was the sensation of the other breathing steadily beside him, as if it had always been this way. Yugi pressed himself closer to the other for warmth. His heart filled to the brim with words he had not yet found the courage to voice.
Atem laced his fingers with Yugi's as they continued to take in the showery afternoon around them. Yugi's heart began to beat nearly as fast as the rain atop the tea shop.
Atem squeezed the other's hand gently. "There's nothing to be afraid of," he said.
"What?" Yugi inquired, cocking his head.
"I'm nothing to be frightened of," Atem clarified, turning to smile down at the other.
Yugi shily returned it.
"I know your heart as well as you, Yugi," Atem continued quietly.
Yugi squeezed Atem's hand in answer, said heart still fluttering at the sound of his name on the other's lips.
"A warm cup of tea first," Yugi said. Then perhaps he'd have the courage.
