Chapter 28: No, this isn't a James Bond crossover
"So what you want is to have some spies deep in Imperial territory." Major Cassian Andor said to Dimitri Alexandr. The Former KGB and FSB agent now ran the UN's intelligence service, though it was far more limited in scope than the branches of the UN's military. It mostly ran counterintelligence services on Earth to prevent the Empire from infiltrating it, though this wasn't particularly hard as the fleet would notice if anything unauthorized tried to enter the system. It had also managed to train a few agents to be inserted into Imperial space similar to how the Special Operations Force of the United Nations Marine Corps sent their units in. But these agents had had a limited impact on how the war was going, as by the time they got into deep cover the sector was about to be overrun by Earth.
Alexandr nodded. "Yes, most certainly. But my agency does not have the infrastructure to do so. This is why I would like to send some of my agents to you so that they can be trained in the ways of intelligence gathering from those who know about it on a galactic scale. All of these agents are of the highest quality on our planet and have extensive track records from agencies of the various nations here"
"Good, then they will be useful," Andor said. "I will asses their skills and abilities and have them trained. Note that they might be deployed as part of their training so the risk will come to them."
"They signed up for this," Alexandre said. "And I hope that they will follow through."
Several days later Andor was brought to meet with the various agents he would be training. There were a few dozen of them, and Andor could tell from how they looked that they were hardened and ready for whatever mission he gave them. They would need to be trained in how the world of intelligence work in the wider galaxy.
"Greetings, I am Major Andor of Alliance Intelligence." All of their faces were unmoved by his greeting.
"Your commanding officers have probably briefed you on why you're here and if any of you wanted out you probably have had the option. Nevertheless, I won't force you to go through what you will going forwards, so if you want out this is your chance. I won't fault you, because even men and women of your caliber will not have an easy time." He had read the classified documents on them and all were highly skilled individuals, the best spies of the agencies that they had once been a part of. There was no doubt that they would need the training to adapt to the new environment, but they had the fundamentals down of his line of work.
None of them moved. So they're committed. He thought.
"You'll be inducted into the training that Alliance intelligence agents go through, but since all of you have extensive experience it will be accelerated and more specialized. You are all ready for this, so we begin immediately. You have a day to gather your things, say bye to your families, and report to this location at 1800 hours where you will be transported to Alliance facilities on another world. Do you understand?"
There was a chorus of "yes sirs" from across the room as Cassian dismissed them.
"You did well, Cass." A familiar voice could be heard from behind him. Captain Jyn Erso smiled as she walked up alongside him. "These look like a good bunch. As good as any we can muster back with the Alliance."
"You're not wrong," Andor replied. "Their files are impressive but I want to see them in action. I can't independently verify these reports, its one thing to write something down but another thing to do it." He said.
"I agree, though I think they will do well," Jyn replied.
A few days later the agents from Earth were deep in their training on a distant world that none of them knew the location of. They were forced to survive in different types of wilderness, infiltrate mock high society Imperial events, and use a variety of weapons from blasters to knives. Almost all of the agents had taken training with Petrova'a Special Operations Force and were therefore well equipped to deal with the different circumstances they now faced.
There was no doubt that Andor was impressed with their skills. If the Alliance allowed him to be sent out on field missions as he had in the past, there would be no complaints about having these men and women by his side. But since the battle of Scarrif, all of Alliance Intelligence along with Senator Mothma herself had ordered him off of these missions unless directly ordered by them, which to be fair had still happened here and there.
Andor understood that at this point, he was better used to passing down his knowledge and experience and to administering others rather than doing the work himself, but he still longed to fight the empire directly. It had filled a void for him, and one that had made him have to not think about the work that he did and the scars of his past.
Jyn, luckily for her, had helped solve that void, and while his past and some of his actions still haunted him, choices needed to be made if they were to win against an enemy that was ontelogically evil. And he had accepted long ago that he would chose a fighting for a better galaxy over mental stability time and time again.
And if these men and women could help create the galaxy that he knew was right, and if they skills and abilites to do so, he would certainly take thier help.
Author's Note: Sorry for my recent untimleness when it comes to updates. I'm a bit over a month away from graduating high school, and to say that my personal and real life is busy would be perhaps the understatment of the century. But I'm sure as hell enjoying it, though this is the last "true" chapter of the story. Its a bit of an odd not to end on, sure, but there is an elipogue that will be very important for the future of this story coming up. I'll also talk more about plans for the future of this series, because that's something that's also going to happen.
Dimitri Alexandre was introduced in one line back on Earth in Star Wars 1 but wasn't used at all outside a bit of dialogue.
One of these days I might explain how my version of certain events went down in the galaxy, such as how the Alliance is so powerful compared to what we see onscreen, how battles like Lothal and Scarrif go down somewhat differently, and how certain characters who end up dying earlier end up still alive. Also how there are more Jedi than the none that we see in the original trilogy. When you consider the scale of the empire is supposed to have and the level of threat that the rebellion supposedly is, there are a lot of missing pieces. I've given bits and pieces here and there, but the rebel Alliance will become more and more important as events start to head towards a direction that you might already be guessing...
