The Days After
Kevin's Nightmare:
He walked slowly through a crowd of people, everyone cheering in slow motion. Only he couldn't hear anyone. He walked as he kept going onto the field. The hot lights beaming on him causing him to sweat. The air was dry, the night sky had no stars, and he could hear humming. His uniform covered in red dessert sand. The humming continued as he looked around.
"Who's there?" He said calmly as he looked in the out field. As he turned he saw everyone in the crowd looking angry. Their mouths opening like monsters. As they licked their chops, and beamed at Kevin. The humming got louder and a whisper.
"Kevin, please," a soft broken voice could be heard.
Dee where are you," he said running to the sound of the humming. "Dee!" He screamed calling for her. As the crowd ripped through the fence and began to run at him. As he ran more to the out field he saw a blue door. He could feel the ground shaking from the crowd. Everything started to crumble around him as he jumped for the door missing the fire and lava with just luck. He quickly opened it to find Dee. She was sitting up in bed looking at him.
"Kevin, to what I owe the pleasure," he voice echoed as she smiled. Kevin's throat ran dry, his emerald eyes watered from the sight of her.
"Dee...your awake." Kevin said slowly as he ran to her holding her tightly. His tears falling on her shoulder as the steam from them cause her to welp.
"Kevin, help me." She said her skin turning purple and yellow as she started screaming. "HELP ME," she screamed as her body froze and shattered into dust.
Kevin Screaming Awake:
"Dee no, Dee." He yelled his eyes full of tears as his parents ran into his room. His mother holding him as she rubbed his back.
"Shh sugar cookie, shh." She whispered into his ear. "It was just a dream. His parents looked exhausted as did Kevin. This was happening occasionally since the day of the party. His nightmares seemed to be getting worse and worse. He looked tired, bags starting to form from no sleep, and he was just empty. He only wanted one thing and one thing only, and that was for Dee to wake up. She had been in the hospital for almost a month with no signs of waking up. The injury to her head ended up putting her in a coma due to the impact of the punch. Kevin could never forgive himself for how he couldn't get there in time. He would go see her everyday since she arrived to the hospital. He didn't think anything else matter but his Dee. He would show up everyday at six once practice was over. Showered and fresh with his homework. He would also bring her homework in case she did wake up, and how he knew she would get knowing she had missing work.
He slowly walked into the room of the hospital with his backpack and some flowers. He got her fresh ones almost ever week. He was still not use to seeing her like this. Her long hair sat down her rib cage, her skin looked so pale, and she looked very thin. He missed his Dee. The Dee who would sing, who would blush and anything Kevin said, the Dee he loved. He slowly changed the flowers in the vase for the roses he had bought for her. He then turned to the bed and kissed her forehead gently.
"Hello beautiful," he said running his hands on her hair. He had to be careful with the tubes connected for her breathing and feeding. His eyes would also water for the picture in his head of how she much feel right now. He kissed her again softly as he told her about today.
"Today sucked really, you know how bad I am in math." He said taking out their homework from his backpack. "You know, I wish you could be here Dee. We have first and last period together." He said softly. "I could take you everyday to school and take you home everyday as well." Kevin could feel his chest tightening from his emotions tearing at him. "I'm sure you get tired of me telling you that huh?" He said looking down waiting for maybe a hand movement or something. "You know they won't hurt you again Dee," he said writing down his answers from the work. "The trial was over two weeks ago. Tom, Dan, and Bob were sent to thirty years with no parol. As for Nazz, Sarah, Kankers, and the others they were sentenced to fifteen with no parol." Kevin said looking up at Dee. "If anything they all deserve to be here in a coma not you babe." He said finally breaking down. He grabbed her had softly forgetting about the homework as he kissed her hand softly.
"Please Dee," he said softly tears falling onto her hand. "Please you got to wake up." Kissing her hand softly as more tears had fallen. He knew what was going to happen. They are giving Dee one more week to wake up, and if she doesn't then they stop the machines that are keeping her alive. He went everyday to wake her up from the coma of death. He had so much hope, but the week was almost up. He didn't want to loose the woman he loved.
"You can't go yet Dee," he said his voice cracking from the tears. "We haven't even done things we've talked about," he said softly. "Our other dates, holidays together, even prom." He said placing her hand on his face. Her soft skin against his stubble as the tears slowly passed by. He quietly hummed thinking of the song she usually hummed.
"Its just like heaven, being with you dear." He sang in a soft cracked voice. "Your like an Angel to good to be true." He kissed her hand softly. "But after all I love you, I do." As he sang this last lyric he could feel a small grip coming from Dee. He quickly squeeze back looking at her hand. Her soft fingers could be seen squeezing softly at Kevin's hand, her fingers moving slowly. Kevin gasped and slowly moved his hand away. He ran to the halls screaming.
"I need a doctor, she woke up! She woke up." He said smiling as he ran back to the room. The nurses and doctor quickly ran bring all the stuff they needed for Dee to be machine free.
After two hours in the waiting room Kevin was already tired of how long they were taking.
"Man what is taking them," he thought pacing back and forth as Dee's parents watched him quietly. They would see each other every week since Dee entered the hospital. Kevin was sure he parents hated him, but instead they both hugged him once they heard how he and the Ed's came to the rescue.
"If it wasn't for you, our Dee wouldn't be here today." Dee's mother said softly crying on his shoulder. Dee's father slowly rubbing her back. "Thank you Kevin for protecting our child." He said softly hugging both him and his wife.
As he paces back and forth Dee's mother grabbed his arm.
"Please Kevin your making me nervous," she said softly trying not to show how nervous she was. Kevin looked at her softly and just gave a small smile. "It will be okay Mrs. Vincent, I know she is okay." He said slowly patting her hand. "Please Kevin remember call me Jade." She said softly as a doctor came up to them quietly.
"Mr and Mrs Vincent ?" He said softly as he looked up at them smiling. "She is awake, everything seems to be perfect. Her vision is good, her movement is okay with a little more walking she will return to how she was, and the only thing is her voice is very soft right now due to her throat being sore from the tubes." He said quickly as he looked up at them. "You all may go in and talk to her if you like." He said shaking their hands and smiling at Kevin. They all looked at each other, and quietly walked to the room.
"You guys go first, I'm sure she would be happy seeing you all first." He said standing against the wall. Mr. Vincent smiled at him and grabbed his arm.
"Jade get his other arm," he as Jade quickly grabbed his other arm. "We walk together right Bill," she said softly as she smiled at Kevin. "Your basically already part of our family Kevin, of course you come with us." They both said softly as they all stepped into the room. They are a tired looking Dee smiling at them all her eyes watering from finally seeing them.
"Mother, Father," she said trying to seat up as her tears fell heavy. "I've missed you so much." She said kissing her mother and father on the cheek. Her parents softly cried kissing her cheek in return. "We've missed you so much our love," her mother said softly taking out a brush and brushing her hair. "A true Vincent fighter, I must say." Her father said softly proud of his child. They all smiled at each other and then looked at Kevin.
"He has been here everyday with you dear," her mother said softly looking at Kevin proudly.
"Always stayed by your side, even bring you your work from school." Her father said nudging his head to the desk as Dee's eyes widen.
"Should take me a week to do it all." She said softly as her gaze with back to Kevin. Her parents softly nudged one another and cleared their throat.
"Well we are going to get some sodas, would you both like one," they said softly as both Dee and Kevin answered in unison "Coco cola please." Both smiling at each other as Dee blushed. Once her parents left the room Dee and Kevin eyed each other softly. Kevin was the first to make the move. He quickly went to the bed side and grabbed her hand.
"Dee, I.." before he could say anything Dee place a hand on his lips. She slowly moved her hand and put him in a hug. "I know Kevin, I love you too." She said softly as his tears fell. He cleared his throat and smiled.
"Dee, I love you so much, I'm so devoted to you and only you." He said softly kissing her cheeks and forehead. "I want everything with you, a future, a life, whatever we can get I want with you." He said kissing her softly. Their lips moving softly together as a small moan could be heard from Dee's mouth. He looked into her blue sapphire eyes as she looked into his emerald ones.
"Kevin Barr," she said softly giggling into the kiss. "I've waited almost my whole life for you to say this." She said kissing him softly. "But first your going to need to help me catch up on everything at school, about Eds, and, and." She was paused by his hand covering her mouth,
"Shh there is plenty of time for that babe, but for now let me keep kissing you." He said softly kissing her lips softly and hungrily. Dee didn't complain for she was in the same emotional state as Kevin. Both hungry for their love, their touch, and their affection. A small cough could be head from the door as they broke away quickly. Blush was formed at their cheeks as Jade and Bill smirked with their drinks. Bill handed Kevin his drink and whispered.
"This should cool you down," he said laugh as Kevin grinned at him laughing as well.
Both woman looked at their man and shook their heads. "How vulgar," they both said as they alighted at being in unison.
As the four of them talked and told Dee about everything she missed while she was asleep. Kevin looked at her. He watched her smile, her sapphire eyes, and the way she did that cute thing with her hands as she spoke. He knew he had fallen hard and he was fully devoted to his Dee. As she looked at him, she smiled softly reaching out for his hand. As their hands met, they both knew what each other were thinking. That they loved each other complete and fully, and they were happy.
