Walking off the elevator into the garage, Billy stopped her from moving forward. Looking around the parking garage he searched for anything out of the ordinary. His eyes scanned the few cars he could see. Going as far as crouching down to look beneath the vehicles. "Frank the car?"
"To your left, second to last spot." Frank brushed past them. "Clay already did a sweep of the garage before we got off the elevator."
"Benson." Billy placed his hand on the small of her back keeping her at a quick pace.
They reached a completely blacked-out Tahoe. Getting closer to the car, Olivia noticed the blood on the handle of the back door. Looking back at Billy she raised a brow. "Couldn't stop at the car wash first?"
Not sure what she meant, he glanced at the door. An exasperating breath followed. "My apologies, that was from last night. We had little time to get them thoroughly clean." Open the passenger door for her, he jerked at the man occupying the seat. "Clay?"
"Yeah?" The man was too busy on his phone to bother and look up.
Billy was already at the end of his patience. Amaro had managed to deplete it fully out of him. Clapping his hand on Clay's neck, he clasped down and yanked him out of the car. "Back seat."
"Alright." Clay growled, fixing his now wrinkled shirt. "Use your words man."
"If you'd put that damn phone down for more than five minutes and pay attention, I wouldn't have to." Billy grumbled, opening the door wide for Olivia. Holding his hand out for her, he helped her into the car. Sprinting around the back, he hopped in with a goofy smile. "Today is going to be filled with many emotions."
Safehouse
"Frank just texted." Alina walked out onto the terrace where Barba relaxed on the steps. "He's on his way with Benson."
"He actually managed to get her to come?" He couldn't stop the smile at the thought of their interaction. Billy could be a joker at times, especially during serious occasions. Drove him insane.
Taking a seat beside him, she laid her head on his shoulder. "How's Noah holding up?"
"Better than I thought he would. He's still angry at me, that much is clear." Barba ducked his head, turning to face her. "But he's here and he's safe. That's all I needed to know."
"Rafa?" Alina pulled back taking his hand in his. "What do you plan on doing? In regard to the organization?" She spotted the moment his anxiety began to rise. His jaw was clenched a few times. His leg began to bounce rapidly. Placing a hand on his knee, she offered him a comforting smile.
"Due to the favor I asked for them, they requested payment in the form of my services." Barba chuckled at the look of anguish that crossed her face. "It's fine. This time I can say the exchange was worth it."
"Dad, look!" Noah yelled from across the yard where he was practicing his soccer.
Alina raised a brow. "He's calling you dad."
Barba chortle. "I don't think he realizes he's doing it." His smile slowly fell. "I feel sick."
"Of what?"
"Of what's to come." He answered. "Of seeing Olivia again. Of losing her if she doesn't forgive me." Hearing her laugh, he turned to face her with a grudged look. "Seriously?"
"Sorry, it's just..." Breaking out into another giggle, she quickly sobered up at seeing him get up. "Wait." Grabbing his hand, she tugged him back down. "Sorry, but you feeling sick is normal. Listen, Rafa, she will be thrilled to see you. Hell, she'll probably run into your arms just to make sure you aren't some figment of her imagination. When she's convinced you are there, she will hit you. A slap most likely. Yell at you. Curse you and she will demand the truth. It will take her some time to accept it all and will need space. Only after she lets you back in do you fight like hell to get her back."
"Billy said the same."
Alina nodded with a slight hum. "He'd know what he's talking about." Seeing the raised brow, she waved him off. "A lot has happened since you two have seen each other. But that is for another time." Placing her hand on his cheek, she caressed his cheek. No romanticism is involved, simply a gesture from one friend to another. "It will take time, but everything will work out. You two have been through hell and back, yet always find your way back to one another." Kissing his cheek, she stood up. "Noah! Come inside for some lunch before your mom arrives."
"Okay!" The boy flew past Barba, only to come back and give Barba a hug from behind. Without a word, he headed inside.
Olivia
Halfway through the drive, Billy had pulled the car over in the middle of nowhere. He had asked her to put on the blindfold he held out to her. When she denied he shut the vehicle off and proceeded to grab his phone and lean back. She gapped at him the moment he pulled a game on his phone. This was a battle she wouldn't win, that she knew. But this man was on her shit list as of now.
"I understand this is frustrating and all you want is to see your son." He fastened the blindfold loosely so as to not hurt her. "But this is for our protection. It is not that we don't trust you. I simply won't put my or my team's lives at risk. I hope you can comprehend that."
She nodded. "I do."
"Thank you." Starting the vehicle back up he sent Alina a quick text. They were about 30 minutes out from the safe house.
They drove in silence for the remainder of the drive. Billy kept sneaking glances at the woman. He noticed a few indications of her stress leave. She kept picking at her nails. Her leg bounced uncontrollably. Although her breaths came out quiet, her chest rose heavily and dropped just the same. The poor woman's blood pressure must be up to the roof by now. Spotting the marker to the entrance of the driveway, he turned slowing his spee. Alina had texted him back earlier to let him know she would be keeping Noah and Rafael in the house.
Putting the car in park and cutting the engine, he ordered the men to get out. "Don't more Benson." Hopping out of the car he walked around, opening the door for her. Taking her hands in his, he pressed his finger against her wrist. Her pulse battered against his finger. She was seconds from having her heart palpitate out of her chest. "Olivia, I need you to listen to me. Can you do that?"
"Y-yes."
"I need you to slow your heartbeat down." He said. "It's too rapid."
"I just need to see Noah." She countered.
He shook his head. "Not until you do as I say." Grabbing her hand he laid it over his heart. "Match the beat of mine." Moving his hand to the back of her neck, he pulled her in closer. Her forehead rested against his chest. "Listen to the sound of my voice. My breathing. Follow the rhythm of my heart."
Olivia closed her eyes for a moment. Focusing on both his breathing and the serene sound of his heart. Gripping the fabric under her hand, she felt her heartbeat begin to hinder. She felt a relief overcome her. "I'm okay."
Checking her pulse once more, he was satisfied enough to continue. "Keep your eyes close. We are in the sun at the moment." Taking her blindfold off, he shifted enough to create a shadow over her face. "Open slowly."
Blinking a few times trying to adjust under the bright sun, she scanned the area. From what she could see around Billy was a whole lot of nothing. Apart from a house and barn, there was nothing. Nada. "Noah."
"Of course." Grabbing his phone, he sent Alina a text. "They are bringing him out now."
"Nice safe house." She lied.
The house was standing by a toothpick. The woods was breaking away from the main frame. Paint chipped away on the majority of the house, showing the original paint underneath. One strong wind at that house was gone.
Billy chuckled. "Yes, well nothing a fresh paint can't fix."
At that moment she heard the voice she feared she'd never hear again. Jumping out of the car, she looked over to see her soon leap off the stoop and run towards her. Only able to take a few steps, before he crashed into her. His arms holding tightly around her neck. Pulling him off the floor she held on for dear lift. The fear of letting go and losing him again floated in the back of her mind. Inhaling the scent of her son, she let out a sob.
Noah pouted at hearing the quiet cry. "What's wrong?"
She shook her head. "Nothing is wrong. Not anymore." Lowering him to the ground, she squatted to check him over. "Are you okay? Did they hurt you?"
"No." He beamed. "I'm fine." His eyes flickered to Billy. "Hi, Uncle Billy!"
The man raised a brow but gave the boy a small wave. "Hey." That had to be Rafael's doing. Billy wasn't adequate with kids. It wasn't that he didn't care for them, he just didn't know how to behave around them. He cussed in every other sentence and was the worse influence on them. And let's not get into his mental health.
"Uncle?" Olivia questioned her son but quickly changed the subject. "Noah I should have never-"
His small hand covered her mouth, giving her a watery smile. "You did nothing, wrong Mom. I don't blame you. I knew you would come looking for me. It was scary, but I never gave up on you."
"Oh, Noah." Pulling him into another hug, let out a shaky breath. She looked up at Billy. "Thank you."
The man laughed. "I don't get all the credit." His eyes flicked up for a second, then back at her. "I was called in to assist. It was all him."
"Him?" She inquired.
Billy nodded his head at someone behind her. "Him."
Looking over her shoulder, she was struck figuratively. The air was sucked out of her with a small gasp. Try as hard as she did, her lungs wouldn't draw the breath back in. Leaving her with a dry mouth. Swallowing the lump in her throat Olivia slowly stood up. She had to blink a few times, making sure she wasn't seeing things that weren't there. "Rafael?"
