A.N. Now, I know the original story took place over the course of many months and the VeggieTales parody probably did too, but in my stories the parody actually took place between the beginning of September into around mid or late October. Yes snow was shown in one scene, but weather can be weird at times so it could've been a freak early-autumn snow that melted later.

The reason why I have the parody take place within a couple of months was due to the scene at the end where Sara sees the urchin boy (played by Junior) working at the bakery, having been adopted by the baker (Bob). It just felt off that Sara hadn't noticed him at the bakery all those months despite having outdoor chores like getting the milk. Not noticing for a few weeks however is more understandable.

Also, I named the urchin boy Oliver after Oliver Twist. I'm sticking with Bob's real name for the baker since I don't know any named baker characters from British literature.

It was now Halloween, and Mr. Carrisford decided to throw a Halloween party for Sara's best friends Ermie, Becky, and Oliver. Miss Amelia and Bob the baker were there too, since the other students were allowed to go home for the holiday Miss Amelia didn't have to stay at the school and she and Bob preferred spending the evening with friends instead of staying home alone. Especially since this was the night that spirits would roam the Earth….

Despite that none of them dressed up in scary costumes, since there were plenty of Jack O Lanterns, bells, and other decorations to ward off evil spirits and they weren't planing on roaming outside. All of them would much rather stay inside playing fun games and eating the good food Jacques and Pierre made. Mr. Carrisford had decided to wear his old uniform, to show the evil spirits that he was willing to fight to protect his friends and family. Sara dressed up as an actual princess with a tiara, mostly because Jacques and Pierre bought her the costume saying that every princess deserves at least one ballgown. Jacques and Pierre, to complete Sara's look and show support for Mr. Carrisford's costume, dressed up as knights. Ermie went with a circus clown, wanting an excuse to tumble and act silly (not that she needed an excuse of course). Becky and Oliver chose humble costumes since they were still getting used to their better lives, and so went with an angel (Miss Amelia's idea) and a candlestick maker respectively. Oliver being a candlestick maker was Bob's idea, since he came as a butcher. He wanted to reference the Rub a Dub Dub nursery rhyme, just for the fun of it. Miss Amelia simply came as a lady, in a fancy gown and everything, due to already owning a gown but not having worn it often in the past.

After fun and food it was getting close to midnight, so everyone decided to tell ghost stories. Miss Amelia had already decided to close the school the following day, so staying up late wasn't a problem tonight. Ermie unsurprisingly told the scariest story about a vampire, making the others shiver, so since Mr. Carrisford's turn was next he decided to lessen the creepy feeling in the room by adding a twist to his story.

"Once upon a time, there was a mysterious monster who live in a cemetery. No one knew what the monster looked like or what he did, because he only came out at night. They only knew that the monster existed because some late-night workers claimed to have seen him sneaking around the shadows and entering and leaving the cemetery. Then one night a boy was forced to take the shortcut home through the cemetery, due to having stayed at a party too late. He quietly crept through the gate and tiptoed along the path, preparing to hide behind a tombstone if the monster showed up and praying that the monster had already left. But he hadn't, because he suddenly appeared behind the boy claiming to be hungry! 'I can't wait for dinner!' The monster said. Terrified, the boy ran through the cemetery the monster following close behind still begging for his dinner. Finally the boy made it home safe and sound…only to hear a knock on the door! His dad went to the door. 'No, don't open it!' The boy pleaded but it was too late, the monster came in saying 'I'm ready for dinner!'. The boy frantically looked for a weapon to defend himself with…only for his mom to come into the room and say 'Perfect timing, I just finished cooking'. 'Awesome, I love soufflés!' The monster smiled."

Mr. Carrisford was interrupted by everyone else laughing.

"So the boy's parents knew the monster the whole time?" Oliver asked after calming down.

"Yes, it turned out that the boy's father worked the night shift at a restaurant and going there for food was one of the monster's nightly trips. He got to know the monster and befriend him, and invited him for dinner on his next day off. He turned out to be the surprise guest the parents told their son about earlier that day, and they just didn't specify who it was because they were worried about how their son would react. The monster had simply recognized the boy from a picture the dad had shown him and didn't know that the boy hadn't known the truth."

"Zat was amusing Mr. Carrisford." Pierre said.

"Indeed, good story old friend."

Everyone froze, most wondering who had spoken and two recognizing the voice but not wanting to believe it….

But it was true! You see Captain Douglas Crewe's helmet was on display in the living room and the spirit of Douglas Crewe was coming out of it!

Everyone stared at him agape, unsure of whether to be afraid or joyful. On the one hand it was good to see Captain Crewe again, on the other, well, he was a spirit….

"Hey, it's okay it's really me. I just wanted to see Sara and Thomas one last time." Douglas smiled sadly.

"Papa!" Sara exclaimed with joyful tears, going over to hug him; sorta, since he was kinda intangible, but better than nothing.

"D-Douglas…old friend…." Mr. Carrisford choked, nearing him. "B-but how?"

"Well, when I was exploring that new tunnel there was a cave-in." Douglas explained. "Fortunately I was instantly knocked out, so I didn't suffer as I died, but I was understandably distraught when I later woke up and saw my body lying there. Death then showed up to lead me to Heaven, but I couldn't go without seeing Sara and you one last time. Death told me that if I stayed behind as a ghost I would get stuck in the mine, so the only chance I had of seeing you two again was to possess something. I chose my helmet, in hopes that it would be brought to Sara and thankfully I was right. However I was stuck in the helmet all that time, I couldn't escape no matter what I tried…I guess it took the magic of All Hallow's Eve to finally release me." He then hung his head. "Sara, I am so sorry I misjudged Miss Minchin-"

"*Whinny!*"

"Okay, exactly how often is zat going to happen?" Jacques muttered.

"Eh, who knows." Pierre shrugged back.

"Um, if I had known how she would treat you I wouldn't have left you there." Douglas finished.

"Don't be sorry papa, if you hadn't enrolled me there I would have never met Ermie, Becky, and Oliver." Sara smiled. "And it did lead to Miss Amelia becoming the new headmistress for the school."

"That is true." Douglas smiled before turning to Mr. Carrisford. "Thomas, thank you so much for taking great care of my little princess."

"Oh it was nothing old friend, I'm only sorry I hadn't found her sooner." Mr. Carrisford smiled sadly.

"Don't blame yourself, that was my fault. I should have taken the extra time to tell you the name of the school I enrolled Sara into." Douglas shook his head. "After all, the very reason why I went back was to make sure the new tunnel was safe so I knew of the risk of a cave-in. I'm just grateful none of the workers got killed."

"So, how long are you going to stay Mr. Crewe?" Ermie asked.

"I'm afraid it's just for tonight."

Startled, everyone turned towards the entrance and saw Death standing there. They were a little frightened, but kept calm by silently reminding themselves that Death wasn't here for them…was he?

"Captain Crewe will have to leave for Heaven at dawn." Death added.

"Um…you're here early." Bob said nervously.

"Just to see Captain Crewe spend some time with Sara and Mr. Carrisford." Death smiled wistfully (well, it sounded like he was smiling). "I rarely get to see loved ones have a proper farewell before a death so when it does happen I like to arrive early so that I can watch. It gives me comfort."

Everyone smiled and accepted Death being there. They decided to more-or-less ignore him and just spend as much time as they could with Douglas before dawn. They chatted, continued playing games, etc. Then when the others were mostly distracted Sara approached Death.

"I was wondering if I could ask a favor." She whispered to him.

"You can ask, but I'm no sure if I can comply." Death whispered back.

"It's okay if you can't, I was just wondering if Becky and Oliver's parents could visit even for a few minutes. I'm sure it would make them very happy."

"Oh…I thought you were going to ask to see your mom again." Death admitted.

"Oh no, you see I don't have any memories of her so I want my first memory of her to be reuniting with her in Heaven." Sara smiled. "However Becky and Oliver do remember their parents, so I'm sure they want to see them again as much as I wanted to see papa again."

"Ah." Death smiled warmly. "I'll talk to St. Peter about it. I can't guarantee he'll allow it, but it is still Halloween so there is a small chance."

"Thank you very much." Sara smiled.

"No need to thank me, any selfless request deserves a chance at being fulfilled."

Death then left for Heaven and talked to St. Peter.

"Well, it is Halloween so I suppose I could make an exception for tonight." St. Peter mused. "However I don't think I'll be able to bend the rules every Halloween, after all those in Heaven are supposed to rest in peace."

"I'm sure Becky and Oliver will understand." Death nodded understandingly.

Unsurprisingly, Becky and Oliver's parents were too stunned to say anything once they heard why Death was here. But that changed when they appeared in Mr. Carrisford's entryway.

"Becky?" Her parents said.

"Oliver?" His parents said.

Becky and Oliver were shocked, then overjoyed. They rushed to their parents and hugged them.

"B-but how?' Becky asked.

"Sara Crewe requested it." Death explained.

"Really?" Oliver turned to Sara with a smile; Becky sniffled, really touched.

"I knew you both wanted to see your parents again as much as I wanted to see my papa again." Sara smiled.

"Oh thank you Sara." Becky smiled, tearing up.

"A whole lot." Oliver added.

"Of course, what are friends for?" Sara smiled.

"Thank you for helping our daughter Mr. Carrisford." Becky's parents smiled to him.

"And thank you both for helping our son." Oliver's parents smiled to Sara and Bob.

"It was nothing." Mr. Carrisford smiled.

"It was my pleasure, really." Bob smiled. "He's been a great son to me."

"Hopefully one day you can be adopted as well." Becky's mom added to Becky.

"I would like that…." Becky sighed.

"To be honest…so would I." Miss Amelia admitted. "I started thinking of it recently…."

"You mean…you want to adopt me?" Becky couldn't believe it.

"Yes, you have been a sweet and helpful child all these years and you deserve a real home." Miss Amelia smiled.

Becky hugged her.

"I'd love it if you adopted me." She said.

"I am very happy to hear that. Now go back to your parents, after all you only have a short time with them."

"And I'm afraid she may not see them again until after her lifespan is over." Death sighed sadly. "St. Peter isn't sure if he can allow them to visit again every Halloween, since those in Heaven are supposed to rest in peace."

"Oh that's okay." Becky smiled.

"Yeah, this visit is already more than we could ever hope." Oliver added.

During this Douglas took a moment to talk to Thomas in private.

"I am glad that you and Sara have become family to the point of you becoming her uncle, but you deserve to be her new papa." Douglas said quietly. "So don't worry, once you're both ready I'm fine with her calling you papa. I'd be really happy actually."

Thomas hung his head sadly.

"Douglas, no one would ever be able to love and care for Sara as much as you." He shook his head. "Not even I could ever replace you as her papa. I'm honored enough being her uncle anyway."

"You're underestimating your own love for Sara old friend." Douglas sighed. "Besides, you wouldn't be replacing me. She has more than enough room in her heart for a dozen papas, let alone two."

"I don't doubt that, but I could never be one of them." Thomas sighed.

Douglas could only sigh as well, with sadness and a bit of exasperation. He then decided to drop the subject and go back to hanging out with Sara. Everyone continued hanging out and talking until it was almost dawn and the souls had to go to Heaven. Becky hugged her parents and Oliver hugged his parents silently, not wanting to say goodbye in any way.

"I wish I could stay with you." Douglas sighed to Sara.

"Me too, but it's okay." Sara smiled sadly. "I'm not alone anymore thanks to Uncle Thomas, and Jacques, Pierre, and Soleil of course, and I'm glad you can finally be at peace. Oh, and say hi to mom for me. I'm sure she'll be glad to be reunited with you."

"I'm sure of that too, though I'm also sure that she would've preferred to wait a few more decades." Douglas chuckled.

"No doubt." Sara chuckled back.

They hugged one final time before Douglas joined Becky's parents and Oliver's parents beside Death.

"Thank you Thomas. I am definitely proud to have you for an honorary brother." Douglas smiled.

"And I am very honored to be your honorary brother." Thomas smiled back.

Death and the souls all disappeared in a beam of light. Sara, Becky, and Oliver were sad to see their parents go, but at the same time they felt great to have been able to spend some extra time with them. And at least they have new parents to ensure that they won't be alone and unloved anymore.
