Let's Go

He wanted to run. He wanted to hide. He wanted to scream and shout about the unfairness of it all.

He didn't do any of that.

He stayed with his classmates as Mr Filch led them down to the dungeons.

"He wouldn't be able to stop us if we left," Parkinson pointed out, nodding her head at the Squib caretaker. "We should be up there. Our parents would expect us to be up there."

Theo snorted. "You want to go and fight against our classmates, Pans? Really? You don't think that the target would be squarely on us, since they've got more of a chance of beating us than they do the Death Eaters?"

"I didn't say I wanted to be up there," she backtracked quietly. "Just that we should be. That he couldn't stop us."

Beside Theo, Blaise rolled his eyes.

They entered the Common Room, and then stood around, unsure what they should actually do with themselves.

"We're sitting kneazels here," Blase said, shaking his head. "If the battle goes badly and something happens to the castle, we're screwed."

"You really think it's gonna go that bad, or be that long?" Tracey asked, arching a sculpted eyebrow. "I mean… it's the Dark Lord. It's not gonna be that long before he wins, is it?"

Theo was a little surprised Tracey was taking such a viewpoint—she was one of the most neutral students in Slytherin, even more so than Theo, who wanted nothing to do with the war on either side. He had somewhat darker leanings, if only because of the way he'd been taught when he was younger.

He was just smart enough to keep his opinions of Mudbloods to himself.

Theo's only intention was living long enough to get away. To get away from his father, from Hogwarts, from the Dark Lord, from Britain.

"What do you think?" Blaise muttered under his breath beside him. "Should we get out of here?"

Theo glanced his way. "You think we can get out of the castle?"

Blaise shrugged. "They said they were getting the younger kids out, right? That means there has to be a way."

"And go where?"

"Anywhere but here. Come on, Theo. Let's… let's just go. We're of age. We can get away now. No more… no more of any of this. Just us."

Theo thought about it for a moment and then nodded his head.

It was worth the risk, he thought.

"Let's go."
