Chapter 2: Parental Concerns
Hisashi of clan Shigaraki was fuming in every sense of the word. He had finally gotten his mate to understand that the runt would need to find his own way, only for a human to get involved. A dragon rider no less. The main reason he'd been so harsh on his hatchlings was to avoid them becoming enslaved to riders. He huffed.
"That fool willing went with a rider. The nerve of that brat."
Inko watched her mate stew. She truly understood were he was coming from. Hisashi was old even for their kind. To him dragon riders were cruel slave masters always and forever. She knew otherwise, especially in regards to this village. The humans respected their partners. She also saw one young one, roughly her son's age. The was something familiar about him. The human was brash and proud. More like a dragon than her Zuzu in some ways. When she realized he was planing to get a dragon his own way, that made her change her course. She stopped giving Izuku prey in hopes he would draw the boy's attention.
"Humans aren't as they once were my lord." Inko said coming out of thoughts. "You've heard Tenko's…"
"I've heard the reports. I'd almost prefer they go back to treating us like tools. Being pet as they are now is possible more demeaning. That stunt you pulled back then only proves their lack of sense."
"Tenko also said…"
Inko started to defend her position only for Hisashi to continue on angrily.
"You think I care what that fool says. I'm surprised he hasn't run off to live in their stables if he likes it so much. He and Izuku are too soft. Too much like you. At least the others have some sense."
"Tenko said the boy and Izuku came to a mutual understanding" Inko quickly explained, ignoring her mate's protests. "Even if the others in the village are not sincere, he is.
Hisashi glared. "The reports also said that the human is brash and petulant. You're truly as foolish as those boys. I ought to force all three of you back in that cave and cover the entrance for a few centuries…"
Hisashi's threat was stopped by Inko's tail slapping him in the jaw. He clawed her side in retaliation. She let out a whimper.
"You really are as week as those two." Toya smirked revealing that he and Shoto had been watching from the sidelines.
"Do you have fight?" Shoto questioned quietly.
Hisashi was on his second youngest in an instant.
"Don't tell me you're going soft too, brat."
"Never, I'd promised my self I'd never defy you. Not after last time. I was merely worried for you well being." Shoto exclaimed blinking his useable eye.
"That's even worse you nervous wreck. Don't assume I cannot take smple hit from the likes of your mother."
Hisashi snorted smoke at Shoto's face, the younger dragon instinctively covering his eye.
"Speaking of which were is she, I need to ensure she never defies me again."
Toya laughed. "Tenko slipped in and helped her leave. You to busy reminding Shoto of how pathetic he is to notice."
The enraged noises and smoke coming from the cave complex could be seen for miles.
Inko looked back sadly.
"Damn, didn't think he'd actually notice that fast. I'm worried what that means for Shoto." Tenko said.
"We can't dwell on it, not yet. We need to get somewhere safe, somewhere they wouldn't think to look."
"Like Izuku's old cave." Tenko realized.
"Exactly."
Mitsuki Bakugo was fuming. This was of course nothing new. Ever since her husband's disappearance she had focused all her energy on keeping her son safe. While the brat spent all his time causing her problems. She was still proud and how quickly he had mastered his school work and training. Despite that she also understood that those weren't enough. The age requirement for being a dragon rider was 15 for a reason.
"Doesn't matter how smart the dam brat is. He's just a kid. All he's done by runnin off is prove the council right." Mitsuki growled into her ale mug.
The bar keep, one Nemuri Kayama, raised an eye brow and quickly snatched away the mug.
"I din say I was done"
"I'm saying that you are." Nemuri replied.
"Come onnn Kayama."
Nemuri chuckled. "As long as you're here I'm at work, so that's Miss Kayama to you."
"So you're sayin I have stop drinking to hang out with my only friend." Mitsuki pouted.
"Makes you wonder why you don't have more." Kayama said rolling her eyes.
At that point Toshinori Yagi, the village's lead dragon rider, burst into the bar.
"There you are Mrs. Bakugo. I require your presence outside."
"Please tell you didn't break every door in town. Especially since this should've been your first stop. Please…" Nemuri muttered.
Yagi ignored the irritated barkeep and motioned Mitsuki outside. She didn't have to ask who this was about.
"What'd he do now."
Toshinori smiled. Mitsuki groaned, he had such a cheesy smile. One that look almost disconcerting on a man with Toshinori's size and strength.
"He proved Lord Nedzu and the other old fools wrong." He said still smiling like mad.
"Are you saying…"
"Yes, reports say your son is on his way back from the forest. With a young dragon in tow." Toshinori let the words hang. Readying himself for the coming outburst.
Mitsuki took a deep breath and laughed.
"Damn right he did. Ha, didn't even think there were any wild ones left."
Yagi relaxed. He allowed him self to laugh as well.
"I don't think even Nedzu did."
"I doubt that. That mysterious little bastard knows far more…"
Mitsuki stopped they'd reached the village entrance. Standing in front of the gate was Shouta Aizawa, Nezdu's second in command.
Just as Aizawa opened his mouth Katsuki strode through the gate with green dragon beside him. He looked up at the adults.
Aizawa wasted no time.
"Prove you have tamed it. If not it will be dealt with and you will never get another chance at this."
Katsuki nodded. The dragon gulped, obviously more nervous than the boy. Nevertheless it lowered itself down to the ground and let Katsuki hop on.
"This is Izuku" Katsuki bragged "we're gonna show you guys and his family wrong you losers are."
Izuku stuttered "Do you really need to be so harsh"
"Well, this is interesting," Aizawa noted "You may keep him for now. I will confer with the council. We will all discuss this further tomorrow."
As Aizawa left Katsuki noticed that Yagi was there.
"Ah crap."
As Bakugo got off his dragon he was scooped up into a bone crushing hug.
"Congratulations young Bakugo."
"You're not my dad." Bakugo growled.
"No kidding he's not. But he's only trying to help, brat." Mitsuki grunted.
"Then why'd he let them fail me." Katsuki shot back.
Mitsuki walk up to her son and slapped his head lightly. Izuku flinched in response. Bakugo just glared.
"Dumb ass. Who do you think stopped them keeping you out of the forest."
"I'd wondered about that. Figured it wouldn't have been you, hag."
Yagi quietly snuck off as mother and son glared at each other.
Izuku, looked on with interest.
'I misjudged earlier. This is not like with my father. This woman cares about him. They both seem to enjoy this verbal sparing. I feel bad for that man though. If I had an option for a caring father figure I would not take it for granted.'
By the time Izuku was brought out of his thoughts Katsuki had led him into a large yard. The boy's mother had left them at some point.
"Welcome to our stables." Katsuki said.
Izuku looked confused the enclosure was large and open. Nothing like what he'd thought it would be.
"Bigger than you'd expect huh. Enclosure probably describes it better than stable." Katsuki explained.
Izuku looked around and sniffed the air.
"There aren't any other dragons here. There haven't been for awhile, have there."
Katsuki looked away.
"Ma's dragon got spooked and ran off. Dad and his dragon went after her. Never heard from any of em again."
Izuku looked horrified.
"I'm so sorry Katsuki."
"It's fine" Katsuki huffed. "Happened when I was a baby. Don't even remember any of em."
Izuku's horror turned to sorrow.
"Don't give me that look" Katsuki blustered, rubbing his hair back "Just… let's just rest, so we can start training."
Izuku looked nervous, but nodded slowly.
"Good night Katsuki."
"Night Izuku"
Mitsuki looked out the window at her son and strange wingless dragon he'd brought home. She looked at an old picture of herself with a similarly colored, but larger winged dragon.
"Inko. He couldn't be yours, could he?
