A/n: hi, here am I with the second part of Toothless and Thunder's story, I don't have much to say, so let's get started
The Night Fury and the Skrill part 2
The night finally arrived and as Toothless and I said, we and the resto f the dragons met at the academy in order to finish our story
"Okay, are we all here?" I asked
"We're still missing Meatlug" Toothless said
"Where could she be?" Hookfang asked just before Meatlug arrived
"Sorry, I feel asleep" she said as she landed
"Great, we're all here" Toothless said
"If I'm not mistaken, I stopped after I got shot with an arrow, right?" I asked making the dragons nod "So, I guess I should continue where I left it"
The pain that I felt was indescribable, but that didn't stop me from trying to escape. Unfortunately, I also got shot on my leg and my side, so I crashed on the ground
I was about to faint when I heard someone approaching me
"Skrill?! Skrill?!" a voice asked
"Night… Fury?" I asked weakly "What are you doing here? You have… to get away"
"I'm not leaving you here" Toothless said as he helped me to get up "I'll take us to the nearest cave"
It took us a big effort to do it, but we were able to arrive at a cave where we could hide, but when we stopped walking, I collapsed on the ground. That walk took all of my remaining strength
"This should do it for now, but we still need to escape. Any ideas?" Toothless asked me, but I was barely conscious, so I don't know how I was able to listen "Hey! Don't close your eyes"
"It's hard to keep them open, I'm… too tired" I explained
"I'll have to remove the arrows from your body" Toothless said before walking to the arrow that was on my side "This is going to hurt, but whatever you do don't roar or the hunters will find us"
"I'll… try" I said before Toothless removed the arrow, it hurt a lot but I still did my best to avoid roaring, so I just let painful groans instead
"There, I have removed all of the arrows" Toothless said as he walked to be in front of me "You can rest now, I'll make guard"
I didn't need to be told twice, so I immediately closed my eyes and fell asleep… or probably fainted, I'm not completely sure of what happened but let's just said that I fell asleep
I woke up the next day not feeling so good, the areas where the arrows were still hurt, so I could barely move. Also, Toothless was nowhere in sight
Then, I heard something at the entrance of the cave, so I slowly turned around and got tense Ithinking that the hunters found me, but I calmed down when I saw Toothless with a lot of fish in his mouth
"Good thing that you're up" he said as he dropped the fish in front of me "I don't know which kind of fish you do like, so I brought a bit of everything"
I didn't say anything and began to eat, I'm not picky when it comes to food, Toothless also started to eat some fish
When we ended, we looked at each other in an awkward silence for a few moments
"So… how have you been?" Toothless asked
"Uh… seriously?" I asked
"Right, sorry" Toothless apologized "It's just that I felt the need to break that awkward silence"
"You could've asked me something better like, how old are you" I said
"Fine, how old are you?" Toothless asked
"14 winters old" I answered
"Really? I thought that you were 15 or 16 winters old" Toothless said "It's kind of funny that our age difference is of one winter, I'm a winter younger than you"
"By the way, why did you come back for me? You could've just fly off and escape" I said
"Well… you could've done the same when you first saw the hunters, but you decided to warn me" Toothless said "Besides, I still owe you one for not killing me"
"What are you talking about?" I asked confused "I never tried to kill you"
"Remember when you pinned me to the ground when we first encountered each other?" Toothless asked "You could've just killed me and claim the island for yourself, but you didn't. Why?"
"I know that mi kind doesn't have the best reputation, but I'm not a bloodthirsty dragon. Besides, it doesn't feel right to hurt someone just to get what I want" I said
"Huh, I never thought I'd know a Skrill who thinks like that" Toothless said
"How many Skrills have you met, we're rare dragons" I said
"Well… you're the only Skrill that I've ever met" Toothless said a bit ashamed
I only grunted as an answer before trying to scratch my neck but I felt something, it was the collar that the hunters put me which I totally forgot that it was there
"This thing is so itchy" I complained "Night Fury, can you help me to take it off?"
"Sorry, I tried to take it off when you were sleeping but it didn't work" Toothless apologized
"Great, what were the hunters planning anyway? Capture me, tame me, and sell me like some kind of pet?" I asked
"It's probably better if we don't find out" Toothless said "As soon as you can fly again, we'll get out of here"
"There's no need to wait, we can go now" I said trying to get up, but collapsed on the ground
"Like I said: as soon as you can fly again, we'll get out of here" Toothless said "For now, we'll have to stay hidden"
"How do you know that we're safe here?" I asked
"This cave is in the deepest part of the forest" Toothless explained "We're safe for now, just focus on healing as fast as possible"
"Then, I need to be able to walk again" I said trying to getting up
"You're pretty stubborn" Toothless sighed before walking to the entrance of the cave "If you're really going to do this, let's start with something simple"
"Simple like what?" I asked
"Like this, try to walk towards me" Toothless said
It was a bit hard but I managed to get up, but I only managed to give two steps before collapsing… again
"Let's try that again" Toothless said before giving two steps back "Try to walk towards me"
"Why did you give two steps back?" I asked confused
"To make sure the number of steps that you have to give doesn't change" Toothless said
I grunted annoyed and tried to get up but I was unable to do it
"So that's all you've got? I thought that Skrills were tougher than that" Toothless said
"Repeat that" I growled "Repeat that on my face, I dare you"
"I would, but you're so weak that you can't even give a few steps, so why would I bother?" Toothless said
That did it, with all of strength I got up and slowly walked towards Toothless until I was face to face with him
"Now, repeat that" I growled
"You haven't realized on what you've just done, have you?" Toothless asked confusing me
"What are you talking about?" I asked
"You have just walked towards me and you didn't collapse" Toothless said
I looked behind me and realized it was true, I was able to walk towards him, but I also realized that we were outside of the cave
"How did this happen?" I asked confused
"As you walked towards me, I walked backwards which means you walked even more" Toothless explained
"I-I… uh… thanks… for motivating me… I guess, even if you basically had to insult me" I said "We should get inside before the hunters find us"
"You're right, but let me help you to get back, you've done enough for now" Toothless said as I turned around
"No, I want to do it by myself" I said as I walked towards the cave
"So… what now?" Toothless said
"Let me rest for a moment, and I'll try to walk again" I said as I laid down on the ground before taking a nap
I woke up an hour later finding myself really thirsty, I also realized that Toothless was also asleep, as quietly as I could I got up and tried to walk outside
When I was out, I slowly but surely made my way to the lake being careful to avoid all the hunters. It was hard and painful but I managed to do it, so I drank some water from the lake
Even though I'm not a big fan of water, it felt good when it went through my dry throat. I also took the chance to look at myself
The only remarkable thing that I saw was the collar around my neck, so I bit one chain and tried to pull it off
"Come on… get off me" I growled. Unfortunately, my struggles were useless "Ugh, maybe I'll find a way to get rid of this with the Night Fury"
I made my way back to the cave but when I arrived, I found Toothless outside of the cave in a panic
"Uh… what's going on here?" I asked
"Skrill, there you are!" Toothless said as he ran towards me "Where have you been?! I thought you've been captured!"
"No, I just went to the lake for some water, and I did it on my own" I said as I puffed my chest proudly
"You could've told me where you were going. Even better, I could've brought you the water" Toothless said
"And how are you supposed to do that?" I asked
"Okay, I'll give you that one" Toothless said "But still, it was dangerous"
"I'm aware of that, but I couldn't just stay in the cave feeling really thirsty either" I said "But the risk was worth, I can walk again… well… kind of"
"I guess you're right" Toothless sighed "We should see how much do you struggle if you try to fly"
I nodded and started to fly a bit, it was painful but I managed to do it for a few seconds before landing
"It looks like I'm only able to fly for a few seconds" I said before noticing that the sun was starting to set "It's already sunset? For how long was I asleep?"
"For a very long time, it was already passed noon when you first woke up" Toothless said
"Seriously? I knew I was injured but I didn't know I was that injured" I said
"When it gets dark, I'll go to get us food, in the meantime let's stay in the cave" Toothless said as he got in the cave with me following him
Some time later, Toothless went to find some food like he said he would, meanwhile I was still trying to fly again until Toothless came back
"Still trying to fly again, huh?" he said as he dropped some fish
"Yeah, I need to be able to fly if we're going to get out of here" I said "I'm already able to land, but I'm not able to properly fly"
"We'll have to practice on your flight tomorrow, for now let's just eat and sleep" Toothless said
"Okay" I said as I started to eat "Hey… Night Fury"
"Yeah?" Toothless asked
"I'm sorry for dragging you into this mess, I'll understand if you want to leave, I'll be fine so don't worry" I said
"Stop saying nonsenses, I'm not leaving you here" Toothless said "If I'm here it's because I chose to, not because you dragged me into this. Besides, we're friends now, so whatever happens, I'm not leaving you"
"Are we friends?" I asked
"I know we never talk about it, but that's how I consider you now" Toothless said "When we first met, I thought you'd be a bad headache, but now that I know you, I can say you're pretty nice"
"Uh… thanks, when we first met, I thought you were the kind of dragon who only cares about himself, now I can see how mistaken I was… friend" I said
"I do have a question though, why most of the time you are grumpy or act like you don't care about stuff?" Toothless asked taking me by surprise
"I… I don't know… I guess… it's just a way to protect myself" I said looking at the ground
"Don't feel bad, everyone has their own way to protect themselves" Toothless said
"Thanks" I said before yawning "I'm exhausted, I'm going to sleep"
"Go ahead, I'll make guard" Toothless said
"But you made guard last night, you need to rest too" I said as I got up
"Don't worry about me, I'm a Night Fury, remember?" Toothless asked
"Fine, but if you need help let me know. I don't want to lose my new friend" I said before curling up on the ground and fell asleep
The next day, Toothless and I were outside of the cave in order to help me fly again but… all of my attempts ended with me crashing on the ground even though I was already able to land
"Let's try one more time" Toothless said annoyed, I was really getting on his nerves
Then, he started to fly not too above the ground "Try to fly with me for at least ten seconds" he said
I nodded and attempted to fly and for a moment I was able to fly at his level, but after three seconds the pain was too much to handle, so I guess you already know what happened
"This isn't going to work out" Toothless sighed as he landed
"I'm doing my best, okay!" I said before letting escape a sigh "My injuries are not fully healed and the more time we spend here, the hunters' chance to find us increases"
"Don't be so harsh on yourself" Toothless said as he landed "You can fly for a few seconds now, that's something"
"I guess you're right" I said before my stomach growled "Do we still have some fish? I'm hungry"
"No, and we haven't eaten yet" Toothless said "Wait here, I'll go and get some fish"
Toothless left leaving me all alone, so I tried to practice my flight again for a few minutes, until he came back
"Skrill, we have to go!" he said
"What? Why?" I asked
"There's no time just come with me!" Toothless said as he prepared himself to run
I was really confused, so I stood in my place until I heard some movement on the near-by bushes before four hunters came out
"There it is, get it!" a hunter said
Now I understood what Toothless was trying to warn me, so we both ran away as fast as we could. For obvious reasons, I was running slowed than Toothless
We kept running for a while until we arrived at the shore of the island
"Night Fury, you can fly, so you have to leave!" I said
"I already told you, I'm not leaving you" Toothless said
I couldn't let Toothless get captured he was my first friend, so I needed a way to keep him safe
That's when I remembered the Hunter's words, he said 'get it' which means they haven't seen Toothless yet, so I knew what I had to do
"I'm sorry, Night Fury" I said
"Sorry for what?" Toothless asked
"For this" I said before pushing him into the ocean just before the hunters arrived
The first thing they did was grabbing the chains of the collar in order to restrict my movement long enough to put me another muzzle, but I didn't put any resistance
They took me to their base at the other side of the island and put me in a cage on the water, that way I can't use my lightning or I could hurt myself, but I didn't care all what matters is that Toothless was safe
"It looks like its will to fight is gone" a hunter said, he must be one of the remaining hunters of the ship that I destroyed
"At least could you stop calling me an it? I'm a male" I said glaring at the hunter
"So, is this Skrill a male or a female?" another hunter asked
"It's a male, females are harder to hunt, especially if they have hatchlings" a third hunter said
"Good, we'll get better paid if we bring back a male" the first hunter said pulling out a knife
I only closed my eyes and accepted my destiny, but I was surprised when he offered me the half of a fish, so I ate it
"Why are you feeding him? We're going to kill him anyways" the third hunter said
"We're not going to kill him yet!" the first hunter said "Just think of how much gold we could get if we use him to fight other dragons to entertain Vikings"
I didn't like the idea of fighting other dragons for their entertainment at all, but I thought it was better than being tamed and sold as a pet
"This is going to be a really long day" I sighed
"So, you just let yourself get captured to protect Toothless?" Meatlug asked
"I know it wasn't the best plan, but it was the first thing that came to my mind" I said
"That was pretty brave, Thunder" Stormfly said
"T-thanks, Stormfly" I said
"And how did you escape?" Hookfang asked
"That's when I come in" Toothless said "I'm the one who help Thunder escape"
(Toothless' POV)
After I came out of the water, I saw how the hunters took Thunder away. I wanted to go and help him but I didn't know how many hunters were there, so if I got captured too, Thunder's sacrifice would be in vain
I needed a plan to save him, so I returned to the cave where we hid, but I couldn't stop thinking in a possible reason of why Thunder chose to safe me, it should've been the other way around
"You had to let yourself capture, didn't you, Skrill?" I sighed feeling terrible guilty, I've never felt so helpless before
"I can't all of those hunters on my own… there has… there has to be something that I can do" I said holding my tears "It… it should've been me"
Then, I looked up and realized that it was almost noon, but that gave me an idea. The only setback was that I needed to tell Thunder about my plan
I waited until evening to enter the hunters' base. Luckily, I was able to go unnoticed by them, all I needed to do was find Thunder which wasn't hard, his cage was the only one in the water
"Skrill, Skrill" I whispered as I got closer
"Night Fury! What are you doing here?! You should be far away from here!" Thunder almost yelled
"For the last time, I'm not leaving you!" I said "I think I've got and idea to get you out, but you'll have to wait until night"
"Okay, I'm going to trust you" Thunder said "But… please… if your plan doesn't work… leave the island and forget me"
"What?! Why?!" I asked
"If you get captured it'll be my fault for letting myself be captured" Thunder explained "Please, promise me that if your plan doesn't work, you'll leave the island and forget me"
"I… I can't" I said sadly "You're the first friend I've ever had and-"
"Promise it… please" Thunder begged
"Fine, I promise" I sighed sadly "But there's not going to be the need of that because I'm going to get you out"
Then I flew off and returned to the cave in order to wait for the night, I was really going to need my energy
After some time of waiting, the night finally arrived. I went to the hunters' base and made sure that all of them were asleep,
Then, I started to look a way to destroy the cages where all of the dragons were. Luckily, when I looked into one ship, I found a few barrels with explosives, so as quietly as I could I placed them near some cages and one near Thunder's cage
When I finished, I flew up enough to avoid being seen by the hunters, but not enough to not allow me to see the barrels
"Alright, it's now or never" I said before shooting a plasma blast at one barrel
When it blew up, it let escape some dragons from their cages but it also woke all of the hunters up. Knowing I didn't have any time to waste, I shot more plasma blasts at the other barrels finishing with the one near Thunder's cage
While the dragons tried to fly away forcing the hunters to try to capture them again which wasn't working, I flew towards Thunder
"We have to go while we still can!" I said
"But I can't fly yet" Thunder said "How are we supposed to go?"
"We don't have a choice but to fly off, don't worry I'll help you" I said
Thunder nodded and started to fly, after a few seconds he started to lose altitude, so I had to catch him and lift us up until he could fly again. We kept doing that for a while until we arrived at a rocky island
"Skrill… you're really heavy" I said as we landed
"Hey, it's not because I'm fat but because I'm strong" Thunder said clearly offended
"I never said that you are fat" I said
"Right… sorry" Thunder said embarrassed but then he started to laugh
"Why are you laughing?" I asked
"You haven't realized yet?" Thunder asked "We did it! We escape from the island!"
"You're right… we did it!" I roared happily
We decided to stay in that island for a while, at least until Thunder was fully recovered from his injuries
But… we didn't know what else to do, the reason of why we stick together was to escape the island, and now that we've accomplished that… we both follow our own path
It was sad, but that's how it was supposed to be… or that's what we thought, the day when Thunder was able to fly again, was supposed to be the say when our paths will separate
"So… this is it" I said "You can fly again"
"Yeah, so I guess this is the good bye" Thunder said "It was nice knowing you, Night Fury"
Thunder turned around and prepared himself to fly, but I stopped him
"Skrill, wait!" I said
"Yeah?" Thunder said as he looked at me
"We have been through a lot and we make a good team" I said "So I was thinking… maybe we could stick together and find our own island"
"T-that doesn't sound like a bad idea, I'm in. Besides, it would be nice to have your company, friend" Thunder said before we both flew off
(Thunder's POV)
"After that, Thunder and I lived like a pack for another year, searching for our own island" Toothless said
"We both protect and looked after each other, until we arrived at the nest and the queen took over our minds" I continued
"We lived there for another year until Hiccup shot me down and… I guess you already know the rest" Toothless said to the other dragons who were listening closely
"Wow, that's a real story" Hookfang said
"Who would've guessed that you went through all of that" Belch said
"That's awesome!" Barf said
"I'm glad you had a happy ending… at least until you arrived at the nest" Meatlug said
"It was a nice story, but… Thunder, you should really start to think more about yourself" Stormfly scolded me
"I-I'll try" I said
"And you did you get rid of the collar?" Meatlug asked
"Oh, it got rusty with time, so it broke after hitting it with a rock" I said
"It's getting late" Toothless said "We should go back to the village"
"You're right, see you guys tomorrow" I said before flying off
Moments later I arrived at the forge and quietly entered my rider's room just to found him peacefully sleep, so I curled up on the floor and went to sleep
