"They couldn't have gone far." Azula said. She looked around and noticed off to the side was a pathway that led up the mountain behind them. She could make out from where she was standing, foot prints that led up the trail. "THERE! That's where they went! He took Aang up the mountain!" Azula told them, pointing to the trail. "Everyone on Appa!" Sokka shouted as everyone rushed onto the flying bison. Momo looked up at them sadly. "It's okay Momo. You wait here, in case Aang comes back." Katara told him. "Yip yip." Sokka said making Appa fly up the mountain to look for Zuko and Aang.
The group had been flying for a few minutes now and there was no sign of anyone. The blizzard being worse than anything Azula had seen back in the south. The south had some pretty bad blizzards. "Don't worry. Prince Zuko can't be getting far in THIS weather!" Yue said to Katara. "I'm not worried that they'll get away in the blizzard. I'm worried that they won't." Katara admitted. "They're not gonna die in this blizzard! If we know one thing it's that Zuko never gives up. They'll survive, and we'll find them." Sokka told Katara.
More minutes passed and each one felt like an hour of trying to find any sign of Zuko and Aang. Azula looked over at Katara. "Hey don't worry. Zuko has always been stubborn. It'll take more than a blizzard to-" Azula was cut off by a bright beam of light shooting through the sky. The light got everyone's attention as it went straight for a cave in the distance. Without any more words being said, Sokka flew Appa towards the cave. As they approached the cave they saw Aang fly out the entrance with his air bending, Zuko close behind. When they landed, Zuko looked up at them as Katara jumped down from the saddle. "Here for a rematch?" "Trust me Zuko. It's not going to be much of a match." Katara told him. Zuko fired a blast of fire at her but Katara blocked it with the snow beneath her and did the exact move Pakku had used on her. Picking him up with a big bundle of snow and slamming him to the ground knocking him out.
Sokka rushed over to Aang with a knife in hand and cut Aang free from his rope. "We need to get to the oasis! The spirits are in trouble!" Aang told them as he used his air bending to rush onto Appas head. Azula's eyes stayed locked onto the unconscious body of her brother by blood. "We can't leave him here." Azula said as she hopped down from the saddle. "Sure we can! Let's go!" Sokka told her. "No, Azula's right. If we leave him he'll die." Aang jumped down to help Azula bring Zuko onto the saddle. "Yeah this makes sense. Let's BRING the guy who's constantly trying to kill us." Sokka said sarcastically. "He's still my brother by blood Sokka! This isn't up for debate. Hand me that rope." Azula told him as they flew back to the oasis and Azula used the rope to tie Zuko up. Azula made sure she tied enough knots to keep him in check and that his hands weren't angled where he could cut them free with a fire dagger.
As they flew back something that couldn't be explained happened. The moon turned red. Everyone looked up at the red moon in horror. "What in the name of Agni…." Azula muttered as she took in the horrifying sight. Yue suddenly seemed in pain. "Are you okay?" Sokka asked. "I feel faint." "I feel it too. The moon spirit is in trouble." Aang said. "I owe the moon spirit my life." Yue told everyone. "What do you mean?" Sokka asked. "When I was born, I was very sick and very weak. Most babies cry when their born. But I was born as if I were asleep. My eyes closed. The healers did everything they could. They told my mother and father I was going to die. My father pleaded with the spirits to save me. That night, beneath the full moon, they brought me to the oasis and placed me in the pond. My dark hair turned white, I opened my eyes and began to cry, they knew I would live. That's why my mother named me Yue…for the moon."
As the group returned to the oasis, they saw a group of Fire Nation soldiers standing there alongside Zhao. Zhao was holding a small wet bag and was at the moment struggling to get Momo off of his head. Momo let go as they landed and Zhao looked at them with rage as the gang got into a fighting stance. "Don't bother." Zhao said as he raised the bag and his fist. Ready to kill he moon spirit. "ZHAO DON'T!" Aang pleaded.
"It's my destiny. To destroy the moon! AND the water tribe!" Zhao told them. 'Was he out of his mind?!' Azula thought to herself. "Destroying the moon won't hurt JUST the water tribe. It will hurt EVERYONE! Including you. Without the moon, everything would fall out of balance. You have no idea what kind of chaos that would unleash on the world." Aang explained. "Listen to him Zhao. Think of the Fire Nation! What would happen to a country like the Fire Nation without the moon to create the tides with? You think Fire Lord Ozai will allow that kind of damage to slide under the rug?" Azula confronted Zhao.
"They are right Zhao!" A familiar voice said. Everyone turned to the side to see Iroh. "General Iroh. Why am I not surprised to discover your treachery?" Zhao mockingly asked. "I'm no traitor Zhao. The Fire Nation needs the moon too. Whatever you do to that spirit, I'll unleash on you tenfold! LET IT GO NOW!" Iroh demanded. Zhao looked Iroh dead in the eyes and Azula could see the defeat start to form in them. Zhao bent down and plopped the fish back in the oasis. Azula looked up at the sky as the moon turned back to its rightful color. "RRRRAAAAAAAAA!" Zhao suddenly screamed and Azula along with everyone else looked in horror as Zhao blasted fire at the oasis. Suddenly, the moon turned black, and one of the koi fish floated on the water's surface.
"NOOOOOO!" Azula shouted. Iroh charged forward and blasted fire at Zhao. His men jumping in the way to defend their commanding officer. They would provide little more than a distraction for Zhao to escape as Iroh made quick work of the soldiers who now lay unconscious. The group went over to Iroh who picked up the now dead spirit. "There's no hope now. It's over." Yue said with sadness and defeat in her voice.
"NO! IT'S NOT OVER!" Aang said. It sounded like multiple voices were talking at once. His eyes and tattoos glowed white. He walked into the center of the oasis. The water suddenly turned white and then Aang sank into the water. Soon after the water of the whole oasis turned blue and a blue aura filled the entire area. The water began to move in ways it naturally shouldn't. Suddenly the water rose up and formed into a giant creature even bigger than the palace. Azula and the others stood in shocked silence as they took in this unbelievable sight of what Azula could only describe as a giant koi fish monster. "What in the name of…" Zuko said from the saddle he was left in, having been unable to get out of his ropes. Azula was left speechless at the form of the powerful being before her own eyes. The beast then advanced down onto the rest of the tribe and began attacking the Fire Nation, leaving the others at the oasis. Azula forced herself to look away from the koi fish monster at her bound brother by blood. Without a word she went over to Appa and climbed up. Without a word she used a fire dagger to cut Zuko free. Zuko looked at her confused. "Go get Zhao." was all Azula said before turning around and hopping off the saddle and rejoining the others. Zuko looked at them expressionless before jumping off the saddle to chase after Zhao.
Iroh placed the fish back in the water. "It's too late. It's dead." Katara said. Iroh then looked over at Yue and his face filled with realization. "You have been touched by the moon spirit! Somehow its life is in you!" Iroh said in surprise. "Yes. Your right. It gave me life…maybe I can give it back." Yue said. "NO! YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THAT!" Sokka told her. Azula could hear the fear and desperation in his voice. "It's my duty Sokka." "I won't let you! You're father told me to protect you!" "I have to do this." Yue went to Iroh who was now holding the lifeless body of the fish and placed her hands on it. The koi fish glowed white and Yue closed her eyes. Then the glow disappeared and Yue fell backwards. "NO!" Sokka caught her as she fell. "She's gone…she's gone." Suddenly Yue's body faded away and the fish glowed. Iroh quickly put the fish in the water and the fish began to swim in the oasis. The water glowed briefly and a thick mist emerged out of it and in the mist formed Yue. She was absolutely radiant. "Goodbye Sokka. I'll always be with you." Yue said as she leaned towards Sokka and the two of them kissed. Yue faded away and was gone…..and the moon returned to the sky. Azula went behind her brother and put a hand on his shoulder to comfort him. Sokka looked up at her with sadness in his eyes, then looked away and shut them tightly as a tear went down his face. Azula looked over at Iroh. "Uncle…you should probably leave now while you can." Iroh nodded with a smile and left.
In the morning, Azula stood outside the palace entrance with Katara and Pakku. "I've decided to go to the South Pole. Some other benders and healers want to join me. It's time we helped rebuild our sister tribe." Pakku told Katara. "Good. They could use the help." Azula told him. "What about Aang? He still need to learn water bending." Katara asked. "Well, then he better get used to calling you "Master Katara."" Pakku told her with a smile. "Master Katara…I like the sound of that already." Azula joked. Katara walked up to Aang from behind. Aang sensed her presence and turned around to her and the two embraced in a hug. Sokka and Azula approached and stood next to the two of them as they looked at the moon in the sky.
