Despite the smell of kerosene and the fuel from the cab in front of her, Cress took a deep breath of the warm air.
It was a wonderful evening, too nice to be cooped up in a plane for the next few hours. She had finished her work early, earning her some praise from her clients. The streets of St. Louis were full with people enjoying the first warm evening of the year and the drive from the hotel to the airport left her wishing she could just stay.
There was no joy in going home tonight.
"Coming or going?"
She recognized Thorne's voice even before she turned around with a smile.
He smiled back and she realized she had missed him a little. She hadn't heard much from him in the last few weeks since they met in Cincinnati and that had been the last time they had seen each other too.
It was stupid to miss him, even just a little, Cress knew. What were they to each other really?
"Going."
He nodded as if he hadn't expected anything else. "Of course. We don't have the best timing, do we?" He said it with a smile but it didn't quite reach his eyes.
"Seems that way."
Cress was convinced it was fate that kept putting them together, but then it must be fate too that kept them apart.
"I hope you'll have a nice stay here. The evening is perfect for a night out."
"I think so too. Let's see where the night leads me," he told her with a wink but Cress could tell it was only half-heartedly done.
Where the night led him ... Cress imagined into the arms of a beautiful woman.
And why shouldn't he? He was attractive and fun to be around and, as far as she knew, he wasn't attached to anyone.
At least, not to her.
There was no reason to be jealous but she still felt it, like tiny barbs stinging at her.
"I hope you'll have fun." She meant it ... for the most part. She just wished she could be part of it. She pointed to one of the cab drivers. "I think he is waiting for you."
Thorne gave the man only a superficial glance before looking back at her. Looking at her like he always did, as if she were the only thing worthy of his attention.
And then he stepped closer.
In fact, Thorne stepped so close that Cress had to crane her head a little to look up at him.
So close that she could smell his cologne and would only need to step on her tip-toes to close the distance with a kiss ...
"It's probably too much to ask ..." He stopped and took a deep breath and lowered his head so he was almost eye-to-eye with her.
She couldn't help herself, her eyes darted to his lips, only fleetingly but when she looked him in the eyes again, she knew he had noticed.
He grinned a little as if emboldened, a gentle hand with a feather light touch running down the back of her arm. "Stay the night with me."
"W-what?"
"Stay the night with me," he repeated, his voice soft and full of promise. "Let's for once be together for more than a few moments."
"But ... my flight," she said feebly.
A sigh. A step back. "I know. But, can't you just for this one time ... miss it? I know it's a lot to ask but you must have so many miles you can just book another with no problem. Or I'll give you my miles, enough to get you one time around the globe. Probably more."
She should argue. It wasn't a smart thing to miss her flight on a whim. She should explain that she had to travel the day after tomorrow again.
But no word left her lips except his name. A half-step forward.
"Please." His voice dropped to a whisper. "Stay."
How could she resist him when he was irresistible?
Last call for passenger Crescent Moon Darnel. Crescent Moon Darnel, this is the last call for flight DL 1897 from St. Louis to Boston. Crescent Moon Darnel, please come to Concourse B, Gate 6.
The stewardess waited three more minutes before fixing her smile and closing the door.
No-show passengers weren't so uncommon for her and she had a job to do.
And flight DL1897 left without passenger Crescent Moon Darnel.
A/N: Has it been a long time since I updated this fic? Yes. Did I check the date of my last update? Gosh, no and I hope neither do you. ;)
Tbh, I never expected TWMA to become so popular? In the beginning, it was just a stupid little drabble series which I wrote just for fun and suddenly I felt all this pressure. Not from the readers but it still made me struggle. I know what I want to happen in the next chapter but I'm not sure how to do it. Leave it in drabble style or write something longer? I don't know yet. We'll see. For now I still hope you enjoyed this little update. It was about time that Cress and Thorne spent some more time together after all. :) As always a big thanks to my wonderful beta kiminicricket.
