Chapter Eleven

Two Hours later…

Don was on the phone with Merrick when the two agents came back, both looking like they needed a vacation, even though they had just dropped off two people.

"That bad, huh?" Kim asked, with both agents silently nodding

Kim knew the feeling, as aside from some of the criminal activity her parents have done in the past, they were also ones who did not know when to keep quiet and could be inappropriate, which landed both of them in jail from time to time.

"I'm sorry guys, one would think those two would improve with time but, in reality, they have just gotten worse." She said, tired from the craziness of her parents.

Terry simply put her hand on the woman's shoulder, trying to reassure the Secret Service agent that it would eventually be okay.

"Don't worry about it, we're happy to help." Terry said, hoping that she was right.

"Yeah, we always help one of our own." David said, smiling, secretly glad he never had to deal with something like this.

"Thanks, guys." Kim said with a small smile, grateful that she and her husband have good friends.

Alan came into the room to usher the three agents to the kitchen with some coffee to help calm everyone's nerves.

"So, how is it going with Irene?" Terry asked, curious but not sure if it was entirely appropriate to ask

"Well, it's okay now since she stormed to her room a little bit ago after she and I had a little… talk." Alan said, downplaying the fact they had another one of their classic arguments.

Terry simply nodded and decided to change the subject.

"So… how has grandfatherhood been treating you?"

Alan smiled as he looked at the two toddlers who were sleeping in his eldest's arms, feeling grateful for the sight.

"Very well thank you, the little ones are balls of energy during the day and night but are really sweet when they are in the mood." Alan said with a smile.

The agents had to hold back laughter, not wanting to wake up the kids.

"I know what you mean, my niece is very energetic, too." David admitted, though he really enjoyed the times he had with the kid.

Alan chuckled, as some things don't change when it comes to the young and the like.

Don came in to hear the conversation and just had to smile, as despite the recent events, he loved seeing his friends with his father and that his wife was now sporting a smile, causing relief to flood his heart.

"So what were you guys saying about energetic toddlers?" Don asked with a smile

"Oh, I'm just talking about how fun it is when a child is young and you get to see the beginnings of how they explore the world." Alan mused.

Don just smiled, as he knew what his father was talking about.

"So what did Merrick have to say?" David asked, knowing that they would have to deal with their other boss.

"He needs to meet with us about the intruder and what we need to do in the coming days, as he also wanted to know if it's worth all our time." Don said grimly

"I would think it would be." Alan said, trying to hide his annoyance.

"I know but Merrick just wants us to meet with him so that we can figure out what our next step is and I intend to tell him that we will see to the end of it."

Everyone quietly nodded, as they knew the possibility that they might have to drop it but were just glad that Don was willing to take Merrick on that and keep the FBI on it.
