Bonus Scene: Making Paradise
"We need to take a census of ourselves," Hawkeye told Quicksilver excitedly. "I can't wait for-"
"Look at this place, Hawkeye. It's nothing but a dead rock. There are no trees or buildings here. I've crossed this barren rock a dozen times. There's a breathable atmosphere and that's it. She tricked us. Althea tricked us."
"Oh ye of little faith," The Khaleesi giggled. Her ship landed on the dead planet, compact and tiny compared to what the men had seen of the inside. She pressed something into Hawkeye's hands.
"What's this?"
"It's your census. There's about three-point-five billion people on this empty planet. This is a dead part of the Realm; I chose it specifically for your kind." Barton looked over the list briefly. "That's in alphabetical order. If you touch it here," she touched the edge of the screen, "it shows the census in age order. Touch again and you get it in alphabetical family groups."
"Why family groups?" He asked.
"So that the scammers can't call up people and say 'of course I would never leave you, darling. The Lady must have messed up and sent me to the other side of the planet. But I just need some money to get home.' Every person knows exactly who they lost in this migration and who stuck with them."
She was still being contained by the bubble, which was brighter than ever. Where she stepped, grass and flowers sprang up. "And you! Mister 'She tricked us'. Retain your faith in me, big brother. I've not led you astray. I just thought that you might want to see the process from the beginning. Ready?"
She let her shields down one by one, slowly unveiling her power. And as she did, more and more of the planet was covered in mountains, and hills and valleys of bright, beautiful green. The planet split apart in several places and lakes and pockets of water formed. A mighty redwood tree sprang up beside her, causing her to giggle and lay a gentle hand on it. "My, aren't we eager?" More trees sprang from the earth beneath their feet as did buildings and shops and restaurants and windmills and schools and anything else one could imagine could be needed. But the buildings were part of the landscape, not jarring one's vision away from nature. And everywhere there was grass. Perfectly maintained, non-weed infested grass. There were no asphalt roads any more; cars were fitted with emission-free engines and flew. The grass would never need to be mowed. Particles were suddenly in the air, smaller than pollen and not irritating.
"What are these?" Quicksilver said, batting at the twinkling lights.
"I got the idea from a TV show called Farscape. They're translator microbes. They cure almost all diseases and have the added benefit of translating every language. Instead of injecting them into people, I figure they can just be in the air, like little flecks of glitter or fireflies. You'll breathe them in and take them with you on your ships when you get sick of my paradise and decide to explore the universe on your own someday."
You don't think that they will be a little distracting?" Hawkeye smirked.
"Give it a couple of days and you won't even notice them," she grinned mischievously.
… …
Copies of herself were all over the planet, showing her people what creation looked like. Standing next to Black Widow and Warmachine on the other side of the planet, Althea hugged Kara and Rylee, glowing brightly.
"Your wedding cost less than three thousand dollars, you know," Kara said with tears in her eyes. "Mr. Stark posted the final numbers online right after you disappeared."
"And we have the whole special direct from the BBC. They insisted on giving us each a copy as a way of thanking us for participating."
"Cool! We should watch it together tonight. You know, hang out. A year is way too long to be apart." The two friends looked at each other happily and nodded.
"Deal!"
Natasha was simply staring around her in disbelief. This is what the girl had been capable of all this time? This is what might have become of the Earth? Tyr came out of the ship and approached his woman with intent as she continued to reassure the people of the world.
"How can you not call yourself a god?" The Khaleesi smiled at Black Widow gently.
"I didn't build all of this from scratch, you know. There were particles of dirt and blades of grass and other trace elements on your people when they came here. This is more of a transplant than actual creation when you think about it. And I'm not interested in being worshiped as a goddess. I'd rather be thought of as a friend."
"You may play with your friends later, little one. Our quality time was interrupted. My baby needs feeding." Althea flushed in embarrassment.
"Go. Play. Find out who's here and what they're up to. There are my version of cell towers all over the planet. And they are compatible with your primitive tech. I want to spend some time with my family." With that final directive, she took her husband's hand and went back to her ship. The copies of herself disappeared and she giggled as the hatch closed behind her. A warm pulse of love passed through the planet.
"This should be interesting," Black Widow said with a warm smile at the handsome blond man who would eventually become her husband and father of her three children.
The End (for real this time)
This was an extra scene that wanted to be in the fic. I wanted to at least start to describe the 'perfect world' she's been hinting at. Thanks for reading and I'll see you next fic! :D
