Prompt: "I dunno. I failed maps."

Chloe sucked in and released a cleansing breath as she stood in front of her mirror, smoothing her dress down her slender waist.

"You look gorgeous," Aubrey said with a smile as she stood behind her friend, fussing a little with one spaghetti strap and making the redhead chuckle softly. "She's going to croak."

"Thanks, but I might be the one who croaks, I'm so nervous."

The blonde squeezed Chloe's shoulders gently. "It's just Beca."

The redhead nodded, biting her bottom lip a little. "I know but... it's our first real date."

A little scoff came from Aubrey and Chloe turned to look at her in surprise. "Chloe," her co-captain said firmly. "You guys have been dating for months, unbeknownst to each other. The only thing you haven't been doing is the sexual stuff."

Chloe blushed a little and looked at herself in the mirror again. "We... um... we kissed... last night," she said quietly. "It got a little heated."

"But you didn't...?" Aubrey asked gently.

"No," Chloe smiled. "I wanted to but... Beca slowed things down. She was... a little shy, I think. Said she wanted us to date before we did... that."

The blonde nodded and then moved around to her friend's side to take her hand. "You sure you're ok with being with a woman?"

Red eyebrows drew together. "I'm sure I'm ok with being with Beca." Aubrey nodded again. "I'm in love with her, Aubs. I know I am. And this... thing... between us... It's impossible to ignore. For either of us."

"Chloe, you're going to have to tell her everything."

The redhead nodded slowly. "I know." She turned then and went to her bed to grab her purse. "I told Maud about her this morning." She slipped her wallet and phone into it, then slowly lowered it again as she looked at her friend. "She was... perturbed." Aubrey sat on the bed and crossed her legs, waiting patiently. "She told me there's never been an openly gay queen before and... she'd have to look up the archives to see what the protocol is for consorts."

"Chlo..." the blonde murmured softly. "It's your birthright, lesbian or not."

Chloe lifted a hand and shook her head. "I know. But this is who I am, Aubrey. I'm not going to deny it. I'm not going to hide in the closet, even if it means giving up my crown."

"Crown? What?"

The redhead tuned quickly to find her date standing at her open bedroom door. "Bec... Hey... um..."

Aubrey stood and squeezed her friend's shoulder gently. "I'll let you guys talk." She left as Beca entered the room and closed the door behind her.

"Chloe," the brunette said. "Firstly, you look fucking gorgeous. Secondly, what did you mean by saying you weren't going to give up your crown?"

The redhead took a seat on the bed, patting the space next to her. "There's something I need to tell you," she said as her date took a seat. "I told you my dad died, right?"

Beca nodded. "When you were a kid."

"Right," Chloe confirmed. "But what I didn't tell you is who my father really was."

Beca frowned as she tilted her head. "You told me he was a soldier who died in battle."

"He was," the redhead replied. "But there's more to it. My dad was actually the commander-in-chief of the troops from Pironia who allied with the United States during the Iraqi War. My father was the King of Pironia."

Beca blinked in utter shock, unable to actually take in the words. "But... that's... you..."

Bec," the redhead said softly. "I'm not just Chloe Beale from Portland, Oregan... although that's where I was raised for half my childhood and where my mom lives now. I'm also Chloe Beale-Rochambeau, Queen of Pironia."

The brunette's mouth dropped open a little. "Qu-queen?"

"Yeah, I was crowned when I turned twenty-one, but I wanted to come back to Barden so... the prime minister, Maud McClean, is kinda holding my place for me." Chloe got up and shook her head in frustration. "I wanted to invite you and all the Bellas to the coronation, but the Pironian government wouldn't let me. They told me if I wanted to come back to college in the US, who I was had to stay on the down low for security reasons."

Beca was quiet for a few moments while she tried to process this new information. "But... why are you telling me this now?" she asked then.

The redhead sat again and took the brunette's hand into hers. "Because you're important to me and... you deserve to know what you're getting into." She smiled a little. "You know the way Aubrey has been kinda overprotective of me?"

Beca rolled her eyes. "Yes, very overprotective."

"Right," Chloe chuckled softly. "It's because... technically, it's her job. She's not really a student here at Barden. She's my bodyguard."

"Oh my God," the brunette muttered, rubbing between her eyebrows. "That actually makes so much sense."

A little giggle was the queen's response. Then she sobered and squeezed Beca's hand. "So," she said gently. "Please know that I'm really sorry for having to keep this from you. Have I totally scared you off... or would you still be interested in going on our date?"

There wasn't a single moment's hesitation when Beca leaned closer to her and kissed her gently on the lips. "Are you kidding?" she replied. "You're still you, Chlo, and I care about you a lot."

Pale blue eyes filled with tears and a smile lifted the older woman's lips. "Good," she replied. "Because I care a lot about you too, Bec."

They shared another kiss, then Beca pulled back a little and grinned. "Do you have a crown?"

Chloe laughed and shook her head in amusement. "In fact, I have several" she replied. "I'll show them to you when we go to Pironia."

Beca tilted her head in question. "Where exactly is Pironia?"

Chloe's eyes twinkled as she winked. "I dunno. I failed maps."

And Beca just laughed.
