(TpS) Chapter 3: An Empty Compartment

With only 3 days till we go to Hogwarts my mother sent Olivia home with my father to explain everything her parents would need to know. Ollivander's words sit at the back of my mind, what did he mean by it bringing out the worst of me? "May, you okay?" Dani appeared in my doorway, "You don't seem yourself." I sigh, "Just me problems plus I'm starting Hogwarts in three days' time, weird right?" Dani laughs, "It is weird, I mean I'm starting 4th year." Shaking my head, I lean on my window sill, "Dani, do you think mother will be mad if I'm not put in Slytherin?" She sits down beside me, "Sorry to burst your bubble but you won't be in Gryffindor May. You're too much like us already." Dani doesn't wait for me to answer her, she just leaves like that. Leaving me to my own terrible thoughts, leaving me alone again.

Mr Murrel says goodbye once again before he leaves. I can't seem to thank him enough I mean, how would I explain everything to my parents? He did offer to take me himself to the station, but my parents denied it saying he had already done enough. I just have one thing that keeps nagging at me, what about Maeve? The first question I thought of when I got my acceptance letter, but why am I thinking it now? We're both going to be together, aren't we?

I wake up to my mother screaming at me to get up and ranting on about how we're going to be late. Scrambling for a suitable outfit to wear I come across my wand lying on the floor. Picking it up I see a bit mark on the side so tiny you wouldn't have noticed it. I gasp, "Winnie!" I kneel down and stick my had under my bed, once I feel the familiar fluff, I yank out my cat holding her by the scruff. "Stop hissing at me you old fluff bag." Throwing her out my room I slam the door, hearing a very concerning meow. "Stupid cat."

I shriek, "Dad you just went through a red light!" He shushes me, "It's fine. I'd rather get a ticket then let you be late." The last 5 minutes were a blur from me rushing to pack what I might need into my already heavy trunk to trying to find my ticket, it was a stressful morning.

"Which platform is it again dear?" Standing in the station I look down at my ticket, "Platform..." I stop, "9 ¾?" There isn't a platform 9 ¾, its mad. If there was it would be- I watch as a red headed man and woman walk through the wall between platforms nine and ten. Laughing I push my trolly towards the wall, "Mum, Dad follow me." Not waiting for a response, I start running with my trolly towards the wall closing me eyes right before I hit it. I don't know what I expected but it wasn't this. Opening my eyes, I gaze upon a whole secret station with a beautiful red train ready to go that reads 'The Hogwarts Express'. A hand touches my shoulder, "You know your mother and I are still proud of you even if your career will be unusual." My dad smiles a warm smile at me, "You better hurry I didn't run red light for you to miss the train." I hug my mum and dad one last time and quickly get on the train. Waving goodbye from the door as the train starts to move. I'm a witch now, I'm going to Hogwarts.

Finding Eve is another job and pulling around a large trunk while doing so is even harder. I'm almost at the back of the train before I see a flash of dark brown hair through a compartment window. I move forward and slide the door open to find two boys about my age staring at me. "Oh, sorry I thought you were my friend. I've looked in almost every compartment but can't seem to find her." The boy with round glasses speaks, "Why don't you just sit with us we have plenty room, and you can find her when we arrive." Surprised I close the door and shove my trunk on the rack sitting myself next to the red-headed boy, "I'm Olivia Hawthorne." The red-headed boy responds, "Ron Weasley." I look over to the boy with glasses, "I'm Harry, Harry Potter." I smile, "Well nice to meet you both." Ron looks at me jaw dropped, "Don't you know who he is?" Shaking my head, I look at him confused, "Harry another first year?" Harry snickers and Ron rolls his eyes, "You must be a muggle-born." I snap at him, "What's that supposed to mean." Ron quickly apologises, "Sorry it's just He's the Boy Who Lived, he defeated You-Know-Who." Groaning Ron continues, "Only the evilest dark wizard ever." How come I was learning this from a complete stranger? Why didn't Eve tell me about this?

Chatting with Harry and Ron was quite fun until house came up, "So," Ron says, "What house do you think you'll be in? I'll probably be in Gryffindor cause I don't have the brains for Ravenclaw, and I wouldn't be caught dead in Hufflepuff or Slytherin." I give Ron a puzzled look, but Harry beats me to my question, "What's wrong with Slytherin?" Ron motions us to lean closer, "Only that it was You-Know-Who's house and the house of all the darkest wizards ever. No Slytherins a good person, there all evil." I jerk back, "Surely there are some good Slytherins?" Ron shrugs, "None that I've heard of."

Somehow, I got pulled into a compartment with an old friend and all her stupid pals. I was in the middle off looking for Vivi when Daphne pulled me into a compartment with her, "Maeve you with us?" I hear the other girls laugh, "Yes, I'm still with you I'm just thinking." A girl called Pansy squeals, "What's to think I'm sure you're just a pretty face." I snap back, "I got more up there than you." Pansy looks at me wide-eyed then goes to sulk in her corner of the compartment. Daphne sighs, "It's about that Olivia girl isn't it. I liked her to you know but she just wasn't a witch." I laugh, "Daphne she is a witch she got her acceptance letter and everything I just can't find her." Daphne quiets, "You seriously can't hope dear, it's not healthy." That's the thing I hate about most girls they say something all deep and meaningful like that then go ahead and talk about the latest fashion trends. I can't say much of course because I joined in to at some points, but it was all quite shallow talk. Words as weapons, they cut as deep as any knife. A blade of the tongue. Many things describe them but the gossip I hear isn't about anyone in this compartment it's about those outside it, which is way too boring for my taste.

The trains ride was quite bland, the only thing that got my hope up was when I saw Vivi coming out a train door with two boys. Walking faster I bump into a blond boy his hair slicked back, "Watch where you're going why don't you." Ignoring him I walk away still determined to get to Vivi once I do I give her a big hug, "Where were you?" She laughs, "Lost." I notice to boys watching us, I motion to Vivi who introduces them, "This is Ron and Harry." I wave to them but before I can introduce myself the large man besides us shouts. "Firs' yers to the me we go a differen' way." Vivi grabs my hand and I let her lead the way. A new adventure awaits us, I'll let her lead the start of it.
