The twins were walking through the shelves when they heard the sound of... hooves?
"What's that?" Edric asked.
The two looked around and saw a long leg step out from behind a shelf, making the twins hold onto each other.
"T-t-that's not real." Emira said, pointing up to it.
"Y-y-yeah, they're banished." Edric said, shaking behind his sister.
A head, attached to a long neck, popped out from the shelf.
The giraffe turned with a head tilt towards the duo, wondering why it was here and how it got here.
"O-o-okay, let's just... slowly back away-"
The giraffe screeched at them, opening its face and making them scream in terror, while showing Luz what a giraffe actually looks like before they were banished to the human realm.
"Well, I'm never going to the zoo again." Luz whispered, wide eyes under her mask.
The twins took off running from the giraffe as it chased them, leaving Luz and Amity to watch from above in the shelves.
"It's even worse than the book said it was." Amity whispered as she watched her siblings run.
"Yes...yes it is...and this is more amusing that I thought it would be." Luz whispered.
Amity couldn't see it but Luz was smiling under her mask, enjoying the sight of the twins running away in fear.
'And the fear has just begun.' She thought.
"Alright, Amity, you know more about their fears than I do, what else are they scared of?" Luz whispered to her.
Amity smiled widely at this, making Luz somewhat shiver at the sight of it……..in a good way.
"Oh I know many." Amity whispered with a nod.
Meanwhile with the twins, they were currently breathing heavily as they hid in another part of the library.
"Okay... I think... I think we lost it." Edric whispered.
"G-Good." Emira said, catching her breath. "How that heck is that thing even here? We never opened a book about giraffes!"
"I don't know……maybe one fell off the shelves? We're the only two people here. Who would work this late aside from Mittens?" Edric asked.
"Mittens...wait! You don't think Mittens did that, do you?" Emira asked in silent shock.
"No, she's too much of a goodie two shoes." Edric said, denying this.
Really thinking about it, they could see that Amity didn't have it in her to do this. But if it wasn't Mittens doing this, then who was do this?
They didn't have much time to think about it, as Luz and Amity watched them from above the shelf. The human girl had a new book in hand as she closed the giraffe book some time ago.
'Now, let's see what's in this one.' Luz thought as she opened the new book, seeing something new beginning to form out of it.
A dark fog began to pour out of the book and slither to the ground, going unnoticed by Emira and Edric as they began messing with books for something to defend themselves.
"There has to be some sort of weapon book like before around her." Edric whispered.
Though, they had to stop when they began hearing something MOVING again. Not the giraffe from before, but something NEW!
"What was that?!" Emira asked as they both nearly dropped the books in fear!
They looked around for the sound and wondered just what was released by "accident" this time.
"Em... I... I don't think coming here was a good idea." Edric said, looking around for anything.
"Yeah…..I'm starting to think that too." Emira said, looking around for the source of the noise.
Something moved behind them and they quickly turned around to look at it, only for the sound of a book drop on the floor happened from where they were previously looking. The twins looked at the open book and looked at the title.
"The Lost Souls?" Emira read before gasping! "Wait, isn't this that semi murder mystery book that gave us nightmares after we secretly read it?!"
"Yes! But why is it here?! We aren't even close to the horror section!" Edric said in a panic, rushing to pick up the book!
"Lost... Souls."
The twins froze and turned around. At the end of the hall... was the Soul Harvester.
(Basically Blasmophet, the Soul Harvester from the Monarch game.)
The large beast growled at them as the twins shivered in fear, their throats going dry at the sight of him as his eyes glowed at them.
"Ed... run." Emira said with wide eyes.
"YEAH!" Edric shouted as he grabbed his sister and ran as fast as he could go!
"ROOOOOOAH!" The Soul Harvester roared as he took off after them!
Shaking out of her shock, Emira saw the book nearly fly out of Ed's hand before she grabbed it and running along side him.
"Close the book! Close the book! Close the book!" Edric said in a panic.
Nodding quickly, Emira closed the book but nothing happened! She reopened it and closed it again! And again! And again! And again!
"This isn't the book it came from!" Emira said, more panicked than before! "Closing this won't do anything!"
"Then where is the original book?!" Edric shouted in shock.
From above, Amity was holding the original book in her hands and quietly giggling in glee as she and Luz watched her siblings run in fear.
'I'm not going to let it kill them, I'm just going to let it scare them straight.' Amity thought, still giggling in glee.
After a good few minutes, Amity decided enough was enough and closed the book.
The beast roared at Ed and Em, almost catching them until he vanished in a flash of light! Both of them were breathing heavily with tears running down their eyes as they hugged each other tightly. They were so scared, they didn't know that they were currently inside of the children's corner.
"I... I hate it here." Emira said, shaking like she had a cold.
"Let's... let's just get the diary and get this over with." Edric said, trying to reaffirm himself.
The two got up and walked out of the area, with Edric accidentally hitting one of the shelves. Making book fall down and open itself, a giant hand rose from it yet the twins were none the wiser as they made their way to the romance section. Where they had discovered that Amity had a second hideout in thanks to working so hard in the library.
Emira reached for a book that would open Amity's secret hideout...only for her to stop with only an inch away.
"We... we can't do this." Emira said, suddenly reluctant as she pulled her hand away. "This... this is wrong."
On top of another shelf, Amity and Luz were surprised as they still watched the twins. It seems they actually learned their lesson but it was a lot sooner than they expected.
"What? But we came all this way. Mittens needs to learn to loosen up because she's too young to be so uptight and strict. Jeez, it's like she's mom sometimes." Edric said, rolling his eyes.
'Did he just compare me to MOM?!' Amity thought in anger, growling silently.
"Yeah, maybe because mom is controlling and Amity doesn't have anyone else in her life." Emira said, slowly becoming sad. "Think about it, how are we any better than mom or dad? Like, have we ever been there for Amity when she needed us?"
"Of cour-" Edric stopped talking once her really thought about it.
'When………was the last time we even had a memory of Mittens being HAPPY around us?' Edric thought, trying to find at least one memory where she was happy with them.
After a full minute of trying, Edric had one VERY important question to ask.
"Are... are we really that horrible of siblings?" He asked.
"I……I don't want to say it but I think we are. We keep playing these pranks and having this fun but Mittens has never had fun with us. Or around us in general." Emira said, looking down in shame. "She doesn't even like being around us most of the time. We can't do this. Come on, let's go. We need to find a way to make everything up to Mittens."
Amity stared in shock at her siblings, actually having a revelation about what they've done around her and done to her up until now.
"Well, what do you know." Luz whispered in shock, looking to Amity. "Looks like our job here is-"
Suddenly, the ground shook as everyone was pulled out of their thoughts and stumbled.
"What was that?" Amity whispered.
"I-I don't know. We didn't open any other books." Luz whispered as she looked around. "So where did that noise come from?"
Suddenly, a large hand slammed on the ground in front of the twins. Making them jump back in shock, they backed away as they looked up to see what the hand came from!
"Uh... that's... that's the character from the book Amity reads to kids!" Emira said, pointing a shaky finger at the character!
"I guess messing with the books was a bad idea!" Edric said, in fear once again.
"B-But we didn't even touch his book though! How is he like this?!?!" Emira said.
"Otabin?" Amity whispered, watching in shock as her favorite story book character was now a hulking monster!
A once cute and friendly gray rabbit like creature was a three times as large beast with a buff body, long arms, sharp claws, sharp teeth, glowing eyes, and large eye brows with a book attached to his chest. Looking close enough, one could see a picture was scribbled over with the same features but not glowing.
'If Ed and Em didn't ruin it then how-' Amity thought before she gasped!
Amity knew what happened to that book, she had put that copy of Otabin up on a high shelf because someone ruined it by scribbling on the pages! It had been so long since that happened that she had forgotten about it but she never expect it to lead this this! If she did, she would've thrown the book away!
"Luz, we have to help them." Amity said, turning to Luz.
"Help them? You want to help them now?" Luz asked, testing Amity. "I'm not against it but why do you want to help them?"
"They learned their lesson, they don't deserve this. I never wanted them to be hurt, just scared straight and they have." Amity said, giving Luz a slight begging expression.
Looking back, Otabin managed grabbed the twins in both hands as they screamed in terror, which caused Amity to jump off the bookshelf instantly!
"Amity, are you crazy!?" Luz shouted as she pulled her mask up!
"YES!" Amity yelled as she jumped towards Otabin, but he just swatted her away like an insignificant bug.
Amity hit the bookshelf and her body landed on the floor with a groan and her arm bent in the wrong direction. Otabin walked away with the twins yelling in horror as they watched their sister on the ground. Luz jumped down and ran over to Amity, seeing her unconscious and injured with a broken arm and a bleeding cut on her head!
Suddenly, Luz saw only red as she gently helped Amity up into a sitting position and slowly stood up. Reaching for her head, Luz slowly pulled her mask back on and pulled out her machete. She was going to bath in blood tonight... and this time... the owner of the blood deserved it.
'It's not real…..so it doesn't count if I kill it, right?' Luz thought, gripping her machete tightly as a familiar feeling returned to her.
The lust to kill, the hunger to see the blood of a person as they die, and the NEED for justice to be served! Only this time, it wasn't for Luz. It was for Amity!
