Chapter 4: Sawatari Strikes! Another Pendulum User?
Oh…
Hello, dear readers. I'm sure you're probably wondering what's happened so far.
Well, I have some news…
The good news is…the surgery was a success. The brain parasites were removed, and the doctor had those promptly burned.
Bad news is…Ruri and Rin had yet to awaken. It's been three days now and I haven't seen them open their eyes.
The doctor had explained to me that since the parasites were buried deep into their brains, the removal process had put them in a state of hibernation. None of Standard's current medical science has any concrete details on when they might awaken. For all they know, it could be next week, a month, or even years.
So, here I sat. Nursing a lukewarm cup of coffee that has yet to be touched. Doctors couldn't let me stay at the hospital with Ruri and Rin. However, I did leave a guardian behind hidden in case of any Academia spies that were looking for them. But without the girls around…I felt empty.
Is it my fault they are stuck like this now? Did I make the right decision? Am I even…making a difference?
"Yusuke-kun," I heard Yoko's voice reach my ears, drawing my attention to the older woman, who looked quite concerned. "Are you okay?"
"No…" I replied, solemnly. "No, I'm not."
I sat there, gazing into the barely noticeable reflection of the dark liquid in my cup. My emotions for the girls currently in a coma had left me hollow…
…I promised them. I promised that I would protect them. And I feel like I had broken that promise…
Damn you, Leo Akaba…
Damn you to the deepest pits of Hell!
*CRA-CRACK!*
Something warm and wet coated my hands, drawing me from the building anger that surged within. When reality had brought me back, I noticed that my hands were covered in droplets of coffee…as well as long, thin cuts that began to bleed profusely.
"Yusuke!" I heard Yoko suddenly exclaim while I kept my gaze on the ground where the broken shards of the coffee mug I held remained at my feet.
All form of sound escaped me. The sight of my own dripping blood was all I saw and, in that moment,…
…I visualized it as Leo Akaba…
…dead at my feet.
"Yusuke-niichan, are you sure you're alright doing this?" I heard Ayu ask me as I stood outside the Maiami Second Middle School with Tatsuya, Ayu, and Futoshi.
Apparently, Yuya had been practicing on how to perfect Pendulum Summoning. Which made sense considering when we first dueled, he had used the same strategy against Strong Ishijima after first discovering Pendulum Summoning.
Then if I'm correct, the moment that Yuya and Yuzu exit through the school gates, they'll be met with-
"That's not the issue here!" A familiar pink-haired girl said, annoyed. Drawing the attention of the kids and myself. Approaching the entrance of the school were Yuya Sakaki and Yuzu Hiiragi, the latter of whom was scolding her childhood friend about something that none of the kids could understand. At least, until she took notice of the small gathering outside.
"Yuya-niichan!" The kids called out in greeting while waving at the approaching teens.
"Oh! You guys!" Yuya greeted them with a smile then noticed me along with them. "Yusuke-san."
"Hey, you two." I greeted them with a small grin.
"Nii-chan! I heard you did a Pendulum Summon!" Futoshi told the tomato-haired boy with a giddy grin.
"Hurry, show it to us!" Tatsuya insisted, equally giddy.
"You got it!" Yuya said with a toothy smile. "Onwards to Duel School!" However, before the group could leave, three toy darts landed right in the middle of Yuya's nose, surprising him.
"Wh-What the…?" Yuzu said, startled by the darts on Yuya's face.
And here he comes…
"A Triple Bullseye! 150 Points!" A suave voice spoke, drawing the You Show students' attention to the person in question. A handsome young boy with short light brown and blonde hair, styled in layers, and grayish blue eyes. He also wore the same boy's uniform as Yuya for Maiami Second Middle School. He also held a toy dart in his right hand, indicating that he was the one who threw them. "Pretty impressive, right?"
"Bu-bullseye?" Yuya repeated, confused.
"You're Yuya Sakaki, aren't you?" The mysterious boy asked with a grin then grabbed the tomato-haired boy's hand with both of his as if in greeting. "I'm Shingo Sawatari from Class 1, nice to meet you!"
"Huh? Oh… yeah." Yuya said, unsure of what to say.
"I saw it on TV, it was amazing, your duel against Strong Ishijima that is!" Sawatari praised the teen while removing the three toy darts from Yuya's face. "Especially that Pendulum Summon, that was the best! What were those cards you used for it called again?"
"Who is this boy?" Ray asked as her spiritual form floated beside me.
Someone ordered by LDS to steal Yuya's Pendulum cards. Despite his boasts, he's a decent Duelist but his current Deck is nothing against mine.
"Who would want to steal Yuya's cards?" Ray asked, sounding disgusted.
Your half-brother, Reiji. He has good reasons for wanting it but he's going about it the wrong way.
"Sawatari-kun, you don't have to flatter Yuya that much." Yuzu stated. That comment made Yuya pout.
"No no, I truly believe that!" The suave boy corrected.
The pink-haired girl leaned next to her childhood friend, whispering, "Yuya, didn't you say you were going to show Tatsuya and the others a live Pendulum Summon?"
This snapped Yuya out of his daydreaming, "Ye-Yeah, that's right!"
"If you want to show them a Pendulum summon then, there's a more fitting stage for it." Sawatari offered. He checked his watch, "Until 5 we can use the LDS Center Court. I've got a reservation."
"Huh!?" Yuya exclaimed in shock. "At that LDS Center Court?!"
"You got a reservation?!" Yuzu added, equally surprised.
The pin on Sawatari's collar seemed to sparkle as he spoke, "I'm a top student at LDS after all. My father is also expected to be our next mayor as well. I just asked him and he gladly gave it to me."
"Sounds like you were just being a spoiled brat." I commented, earning me a glare from the boy.
"At the LDS Center Court!" Tatsuya said with awe.
"A Pendulum Summon!" Ayu added.
"Awesome! I'm getting shivers!" Futoshi finished.
The only ones who didn't seem excited were Yuzu and myself. Yuzu, for obvious reasons. Myself, because I just don't like this kid.
"It's not like we can't do it at our place too, you know." Yuzu grumbled while scowling.
"But Yuzu-neechan, it's the LDS Center Court!" Futoshi pointed out with a grin. "Center Court!" Tatsuya and Ayu nodded in agreement, eagerly wanting to go.
Despite her annoyance at the thought of going to LDS, she reluctantly caved in to the children's needs. "Fine, I get it but I'm going too then, but only as a member of a rival Dueling School to check out the competition!"
"I'll go too." I spoke up, stuffing my hands in my pockets. "Can't leave you kids by yourselves, especially with a stranger."
"I thought you'd say that." Sawatari said with a smirk, the intent hidden from the You Show kids except for me. "Now, shall we go?"
The kids took off while dragging Yuya with them, Yuzu following close behind as she told the kids to slow down. I followed at a brisk pace yet behind me, I could tell that Sawatari did a small dart gesture as if he had just gotten a bullseye while his smirk turned dark.
"Everything is going according to plan." I mumbled, figuring that's what he'd be saying at the moment.
"Welcome to LDS!" Sawatari introduced the You Show students to the most famous Duel School in the world, much to the kids' amazement. The interior of the whole building was far bigger than the You Show Duel School. Their Dueling facilities were expansive just like their Duel Fields, there were sections that had students playing Duel Monsters on tables while chatting with each other. Overall, it looked more like a community college center. "Leo Duel School, LDS for short. As you can tell from the name, it is a Duel School run by the Leo Corporation. Of course, it's an invitation only."
"So it's like a prep school." I commented.
"Something like that."
"It's the top ranked institution too!" Tatsuya added.
"Wow, Tatsuya, you know a lot about this place!" Futoshi said to his new friend in amazement.
"Well, my mom kept telling me that here would've been a better choice." Tatsuya explained.
Sawatari took this chance to continue his explanation of LDS, "The best in facilities, lectures, and curriculum is their motto!"
"So basically, it's got everything our Duel School doesn't!" Ayu chirped happily, unintentionally dissing the You Show Duel School.
"You're quite well informed yourself!" Sawatari said to the young redhead.
"Well, sorry, we're just a run-down school after all!" Yuzu said bitterly.
"Now, now, no need to get mad!" Futoshi assured the pinkette. "Cheap places have their strong points too!"
Yuya took a look at a poster that showcased LDS's curriculum of classes, "But it's true about them having things we don't though. They don't cover just the basics on summons, they've got specific courses. Xyz, Synchro-" As he spoke, he was unaware of a boy with sky blue hair and green eyes, who was sucking on a lollipop. "Wow! They've even got one on fusions!" This made the boy pause and look back at the tomato-haired teen for a second before he started walking off.
My eyes lingered on the back of that particular boy. No doubt about it. That was Sora, the spy from Fusion.
"Hey, Yusuke, don't you know how to Synchro Summon?" Yuzu's voice cut me away from the Academia spy.
"I do." I replied.
"Is that right?" Sawatari pondered, looking at me in surprise. "Might I ask, what sort of Deck do you use?"
"Multiple Decks but if you want to find out, you would have to Duel me." Came my response.
"Yuya!" Yuzu called out to her friend, who was staring at something but looked back at the group in surprise.
"The Center Court is this way." Sawatari gestured with a grin.
After a few minutes of walking, we arrived outside and stood… in the biggest Duel Arena we've ever seen besides Maiami Stadium.
"What I've always wanted to see, LDS' Center Court!" Tatsuya exclaimed with awe.
"The Action Fields must be enormous." Ray muttered with awe.
You got that right…
Suddenly, we were approached by three teens who wore the same middle school uniform as Sawatari and Yuya. The obvious leader of the group greeted them with a grin, "Yo." He spoke.
"Who are they?" Yuya wondered aloud.
"Those kids are your fans too." Sawatari answered. "Could we show them those cards? The ones you use for the Pendulum Summon?"
"Huh?" Yuya looked confused and a little apprehensive of showing strangers his most valued cards, especially since he only met them today. "B-but…"
"It'll just be for a little bit. Come on." The suave teen insisted, trying to reason with the tomato-haired boy.
"I know, but…" Yuya grimaced, wondering if he really should show his Pendulum Cards or not.
"I promise, it'll only be for a bit." Sawatari assured the Entertainment duelist.
"O-Okay…" Yuya replied, albeit reluctantly as he reached into his deck box and pulled out Stargazer Magician and Timegazer Magician. However, when he held them out to show the cards, Sawatari suddenly swiped them, much to the boy's shock and horror. "Hey!"
"Take a look!" Sawatari showed both cards to the three teens.
"Awesome!" The trio said in unison.
The boy with brown hair looked positively giddy, "These are the cards you use for Pendulum Summon?" He took Timegazer Magician's card while the boy with dark green hair snatched Stargazer Magician's card, holding up high with a wide smile.
"I want these!" The boy with spiky dark brown hair said, a little jealous his buddies got to touch the cards first.
Sawatari snagged the cards back from the trio, "We can't have that. These aren't yours, right?" He said with a smirk as he glanced at Yuya.
"Aww…" The trio whined before simultaneously smirking in unison.
"After all, these are going to be added to my collection." Sawatari remarked, revealing his true intentions to the You Show kids.
"Eh?!" Yuya exclaimed.
"Wait! What do you mean?" Yuzu questioned the suave teen.
"Isn't it obvious?" I spoke while glaring daggers at Sawatari. "He didn't care about seeing a Pendulum Summon. He just wanted to steal Yuya's cards."
"Steal? How hurtful!" Sawatari said with mock sadness. "I assure you, I'm no thief. See, I just love rare and strong cards." He smirked. "I just hate putting weak cards in my deck. So, I'm saying I'll be taking these off your hands." The thief brought up Yuya's magicians in emphasis while grinning maliciously.
"So that's why you called us out here!" Yuzu shouted, scowling at the scumbag who stole her friend's cards.
Sawatari shrugged, "Not just for these. Since I have them, now I'd like to try them out." He said as he put the Pendulum cards in a pocket inside his jacket as he glanced at his lackeys. "You guys want to see a Pendulum Summon, right?"
"Of course!"
"I wanna see it!"
Hearing this, the smug Duelist brought up a green Duel Disk. "That's why I got a reservation for the Center Court." He said while putting his Duel Disk on his wrist, which snapped on.
"H-hold on…!" Yuya said, unable to believe that this was happening.
"It's fine, isn't it?" Sawatari interjected as he approached Yuya. "Besides, didn't everyone come all the way here just to see a Pendulum Summon?" He grabbed the boy's goggles, pulled them back then released them, letting the goggles smack into Yuya's face hard enough to send him to the ground.
"Yuya-niichan!" Tatsuya cried out with worry for the older boy.
"What now?" Sawatari asked mockingly. "Do you not want to duel with someone like me?"
"But…!" Yuya started, only just now able to try collecting his thoughts to respond.
"Well? I'm waiting," Sawatari urged him on, leaning over to stare down at Yuya condescendingly.
"Leave him alone, you spoiled brat." I stepped in, glaring at Sawatari.
"Hah? And why should I?" The thief retorted.
"Because someone who would go out of their way to steal another Duelist's cards is nothing but a coward." I stated. "You will return those cards to Yuya right now."
"Who are you calling a coward, you little nobody!?" Sawatari snarled.
"I believe I just called you one." I pointed out before bringing up my Duel Disk and placing one of my Gundam Decks in the Deck Slot. "Unless you want to prove me wrong by Dueling me?"
"Yusuke, wait! You don't have to do this!" Yuya tried to reason with me. Unfortunately, I'm in a foul mood for a reason.
"No, I don't. But I'm going to do it regardless." I told the tomato-haired boy. "I promise that I'll get you your cards back. A thief and coward like him will stand no chance against me."
The tomato-haired teen looked at me in shock, "Yusuke…"
The LDS boy, meanwhile, couldn't help but grumble something inaudible under his breath, seeing that I wasn't going to back down from my decision easily. "Alright, fine," he said. "If you think you've got what it takes, I don't really care who I duel!"
"You'll be regretting those words soon enough." I said, darkly.
However, the suave teen snapped his fingers with a smirk and his goons were on the move. Before anybody could react, Yuzu, Tatsuya, Ayu, and Futoshi were caught in their grip.
"Hey, what are you-" Yuzu tried to say as one of the goons held her wrist.
The kids cried out in fear, "Yuya-niichan! Yusuke-niichan!"
"Stop it! What are you doing!?" Yuya exclaimed.
"This is disgusting! Taking hostages just to force a Duel?!" Ray exclaimed, angrily.
"Coward. Taking hostages is beneath a Duelist." I growled.
"What, me? Using hostages? Who do you take me for?" Sawatari questioned, feigning an offended expression. "I'm just making sure you don't try and back down on me, is all."
"I'm going to enjoy crushing you in this Duel." I mumbled under my breath.
"We'll duel here: Action Field, Prison Tower of Darktown!" Sawatari declared, snapping his fingers as the Solid Vision System beneath our feet activated.
As light flooded up from the floor, the world around us was quickly glossed over by the scenery of a dark, almost dingy looking city. Yuzu and the kids suddenly screamed as they stood upon a tower that was connected to a bridge, which went higher and higher.
"Everyone!" Yuya exclaimed, afraid that his friends might be hurt.
"Yuya, go help Yuzu and the kids. I'll take care of Sawatari."
Yuya looked at me and nodded, "Be careful." With that said, he took off, using his honed agility and reflexes to climb the rooftops of the buildings.
Sawatari just chuckled confidently after watching the redhead hurry off of the immediate scene of the duel. "Now since you want to be the big, brave hero, you can go first."
"Gladly." I snarled, drawing my starting hand.
Suddenly, the Sawatari goon squad decided to do the Action Duel announcement.
"Duelists locked in battle!" Goon 1 said.
"Kicking against the earth and dancing in the air alongside their monsters!" Goon 2 added.
"They storm through this Field!" Goon 3 said with a pose while the rest of the goons did a similar pose.
"Behold!" Sawatari exclaimed with a smirk. "This is the newest and greatest evolution of Dueling! ACTION!"
"DUEL!"
Yusuke LP: 4000
Sawatari LP: 4000
Overhead, the Action Cards that had gathered immediately dispersed, scattering the cards throughout the Field for the Duelists to find.
"I'm first." I said, looking at the cards I have in hand. A good start but the meat of my attack force hasn't arrived yet. "I'll start by summoning my Gundam Ground Type in ATK mode!" Playing the card, I watched as a mass-produced Gundam in dull white and black paint appeared on the field wielding a 20mm machine-gun and a small shield with the numbers 0 and 8 emblazoned on it. (3/ATK: 1200/DEF: 800)
"Hm? Gundam? That's an archetype I've never heard of before." Sawatari commented. Then he began to snicker, "But if all of your monsters are as ugly and pathetic as that thing then this will be over quickly."
I heard a metallic creaking sound beside me as the Gundam I had summoned had a rather tight grip on its weapons. "You'd be wise not to judge my monsters based on appearance alone. Then again, a spoiled brat like you wouldn't know a good card if it was slapped onto your face." I spat, equally mad that this pompous fool would dare insult my Gundam Decks. "I set one card face-down and end my turn." I took off running with my Gundam Ground Type following close behind.
"Then it's time for me to make my move!" Sawatari declared with a grin as he drew a card at the start of the turn. Eyeing what he had in his hand, the young man was relatively pleased with himself. "First off, I summon Lightning Board!"
Spinning into the air as it made its entrance onto the field was a monster resembling a dart board, but with a blatantly demonic motif and, true to its name, lightning arcing off of it from all directions, and even from behind it as well. (4/ATK: 1400/DEF: 1200)
The demonic board landed in front of Sawatari, allowing him to hop aboard it as the monster took off at lightning speed after its master's prey. Since I wasn't actually riding a Monster, the little punk managed to catch up, much to my annoyance.
"I'm no slouch when it comes to dueling in this field. I've practiced in it a couple of times in the past, enough to get me familiar with how to move around it," Sawataru bragged. "But enough about me. Lightning Board attacks your monster!"
"Yusuke, use your face-down! It should-" Ray tried to reason but I had nothing to fear.
No, I want this attack to go through. Let him think he has me cornered. It will make his defeat that much sweeter for me.
The demonic board that Sawatari rode upon began to conduct electricity as the Duelist called out its signature attack, "Lightning Darts!" As he said this, Lightning Board fired dagger-shaped thunderbolts that sped directly towards my Gundam Ground Type. My monster brought up its shield to defend itself, but it proved useless as the electric bolts struck the Gundam, causing it to explode.
Yusuke LP: 3800
The smoke and wind gusts forced me to shield my vision with my arms but once it cleared, my Gundam was gone but that's what I was counting on. "At this moment, when Gundam Ground Type is sent from the Field to the Graveyard by battle, I can add a Level 4 or lower monster from my Deck to my hand." I took out my Deck and looked at the images before I picked the card I desired, adding it to my hand before placing my Deck back in its place as the auto-shuffler activated.
The LDS boy clicked his tongue, openly annoyed by the outcome of the attack but not taking long to compose himself again. "Alright, in that case, I'll Set a card and end my turn."
"My turn! Draw!" I declared, drawing my next card. When I looked at it, a grimace formed but I kept it under lock for now. "I'll summon the Monster I just received from my fallen Gundam's effect! Come forth, Guncannon!" I declared, playing the card on my Duel Disk.
Appearing in a burst of blue particles is a red mobile suit with a white blocky head possessing a blue visor, a pair of twin cannons mounted on its back, and wielding a beam rifle with both hands. (3/ATK: 1100/DEF: 300)
"Ha! I thought you'd summon a stronger Monster than that useless weakling! Is that all you have in your Deck?" Sawatari asked, mockingly.
I glared at the boy and took another card from my hand, "When Guncannon is present on the field, I can Special Summon, from my hand, this Monster!" I declared, playing the card in DEF mode. Appearing in a burst of golden light is a blocky toy-like mech with a white capsule-like head with antenna, gatling gun arms, built-in long-range cannons, and tank treads (3/ATK: 1000/DEF: 1100). "Guntank! In DEF mode!"
This time, Sawatari began to laugh like a hyena, which annoyed the hell out of me. "Another weakling? This will be too easy! That trash deck of yours is nothing against me and my Pendulum Cards!"
"He really likes to hear himself talk." Ray commented.
Why do you think I want to crush him in this Duel? A real Duelist would actually back up what he spews.
"Well, is that the end of your turn?" The LDS boy inquired, sounding quite impatient.
I scoffed then took another card from my hand, "I set a card face-down. I end my turn." I declared before using my Guntank as a footstep to leap towards an object that caught my eye: an Action Card!
Again Sawatari smirked. "Heh, that's all?" He asked as he drew a new card, his smirk turning up higher as he eyed the newfound tool at his disposal. "I activate the Spell: Tribute Trade! This lets me tribute a monster on my field to add one from my deck to my hand that's one Level higher! So I'll be tributing my Lightning Board…" Hopping off of his monster quickly and landing on a small ledge, Sawataru began thumbing through his deck as his lone monster vanished in a shower of motes of light. "And in doing that, I can add this card to my hand! Stargazer Magician!"
After the boy had found the card he desired, he set his deck back into the Duel Disk and proudly displayed one of his most recent "acquisitions".
I glared at Sawatari as well as his hidden benefactor who is no doubt whispering the words of how to perform a Pendulum Summon.
"And now I have everything I need. If I remember right, you do it like this…" He replied before plucking a second card from his hand to reveal to everyone present.
"He has the Timegazer Magician as well?!" Ray cried out, shocked.
The thieving duelist didn't answer as he held up his Duel Disk. "Using the Scale 1 Stargazer Magician and the Scale 8 Timegazer Magician, I set the Pendulum Scale!" He declared. Slapping the two cards onto the opposing ends of his card tray, two pillars of light rose up into the sky, flanking him on each side, and within the lights the signature spellcasters that made up Yuya's Pendulum duo floated to the very apex of their respective column.
Yuya, who had been watching the Duel every once in a while, during his attempt to rescue his friends, couldn't believe what he was seeing right now. "No way… someone else but me… can Pendulum Summon?" He muttered, unable to look away.
"I Pendulum Summon!" The brown-haired boy announced proudly as a portal tore itself open in the skies above and unleashed three masses of energy that promptly took form as they joined Sawatari on the field. "Power Darts Shooter! Rocket Darts Shooter! And last but not least, Ultimate Darts Shooter!"
The three were mostly mechanical humanoid figures, each clad in a sleek armor plating of varying styles and colors; Power Darts Shooter sported rounded orange armor; Rocket Darts Shooter had reddish pink armor with a rougher, more squared design; and Ultimate Darts Shooter, perhaps the most intimidating of the three, was clad in deep blues with a very jagged motif that was complemented by the oversized dart that acted as a makeshift lance.
Power Darts Shooter (5/ATK: 1800/DEF: 700)
Rocket Darts Shooter (6/ATK: 1900/DEF: 100)
Ultimate Darts Shooter (7/ATK: 2400/DEF: 300)
"They're here…" I said under my breath.
"Sawatari…actually performed a Pendulum Summon." Yuzu said from atop the tower in utter shock while the kids held onto her.
Meanwhile, Sawatari was grinning from ear to ear, absolutely thrilled he was able to perform this new unknown summoning method. "I activate the effect of Power Darts Shooter! I target Rocket Darts Shooter and tribute Power Darts! By doing that, Rocket Darts' ATK goes up by 600 this turn!"
Upon the effect's explanation, the orange-armored monster vanished in a flash of light, and at the same time, an orange dart appeared preloaded into Rocket Darts Shooter's modified dart gun. (ATK: 1900-2500)
"Now for my counterattack! Ultimate Darts Shooter attacks Guncannon!" On command, the blue armored warrior charged forward, its dart lance at the ready to pierce through my machine.
"I won't let you! Reverse card, open!" I shouted, activating my newest face-down. "Luna-Titanium Armor! This card activates when a Machine-type Monster on my Field is the target of an opponent's Monster during the Battle Phase. My Monster is not destroyed in battle this turn and I can draw one card from my Deck!"
"But you still take the damage!" Sawatari pointed out.
Yusuke LP: 2500
"I'm not even finished yet! Rocket Darts Shooter attacks Guntank next!" Sawatari announced as his next monster got into a stance and aimed right at my lesser mobile machine. Not long after, a large dart-like projectile struck the Guntank, causing the smaller mobile suit to explode in a brilliant explosion.
The shockwave alone had sent me flying. I barely even managed to regain my footing until my Guncannon managed to stop it by using its own body as a barrier.
"A pity that worthless monster of yours was in DEF mode but it's better to get rid of a wall monster than risk letting you hold on to two." Sawatari remarked.
That's it, you egotistical motherfucker, keep stroking that ego of yours…
"You really hate him, don't you…" Ray deadpanned.
You have no idea…
"And now for Ultimate Darts Shooter's effect during Main Phase 2! I can target any Darts monsters in my Graveyard that were tributed by an effect this turn and Special Summon them during the End Phase, which is right after I target Power Darts Shooter in the Graveyard!" Sawatari explained as, after a few moments, his orange monster rose back onto the field from a dark portal on the ground.
"He brought back one of his Darts monsters." Yuya said, watching the Duel with a sense of dread.
"Yusuke only has one monster. Sawatari has three…" Yuzu muttered, tightening her hold over the three kids to prevent them from getting near the edge.
"And that right there, is my turn." Sawatari said, smirking. "What's wrong? Didn't you say that you were going to beat me? From how this Duel is progressing, I seem to be crushing that scrap heap that you call a Deck."
"Like I said, underestimating my Deck is a big mistake." I pointed out. "My turn. Draw!" I drew my next card and looked at it. "Nearly there…" I whispered.
"Yusuke-niichan doesn't have any monsters strong enough to beat Sawatari's monsters." Ayu whimpered as she held onto Yuzu.
Yuzu hugged the children together, "Don't worry." She told them, drawing their attention to her. "As long as he doesn't give up, he can win."
"First, I activate the Action Card that I seized on my last turn!" I declared, playing the Action Card which revealed an image of the card materializing on my Field as well as the artwork image which revealed a cloaked figure holding out their hand as if expecting something. "Action Magic - Dark Payment!"
"Dark Payment?" Tatsuya repeated, confused.
"I've never heard of that Action Card before." Futoshi said.
"Dark Payment's effect allows me to draw cards from my Deck by paying 500 Life Points for each draw." I explained the effects of my Action Card. "I'll pay 2000 Life Points to draw four cards!"
Yusuke LP: 500
"Are you daft?" Sawatari laughed. "Are you that desperate that you're willing to spend your Life Points, just to draw any card?"
"Sawatari, let me say this here and now." I spoke; my tone was cold and eerie. "You will regret having ever Dueled against me."
"Yusuke…?" Yuya looked at me in bewilderment.
"Now then. Draw!" I drew my four cards from my Deck and when I glanced at the images of the cards, I broke out into a mad grin. "Hehehehehehehe… Hahahahahahahahaha… HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! AAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
"What the hell are you laughing about? Did you get some crappy trash cards?" Sawatari mocked yet annoyed by my laughing.
"On the contrary," I said, a mad grin still present. Not to mention that I was doing that lunatic face that Marik had. I mean, you can't blame me. I've had a shit week and Sawatari ended up being the stress relief I needed. "I was leading you on towards your path of defeat."
"What?!" Sawatari looked shocked.
"Leading him on?" Yuzu repeated what I said in confusion.
"He…planned this?" Yuya pondered.
"D-Don't make me laugh! I still have 4000 Life Points and you only have a measly 500! I have three monsters plus my Pendulum Scale! You only have that weakling of a mech on your Field!" Sawatari reminded me of our current play Fields.
"And whoever said that you could Pendulum Summon as well?" I inquired.
"W-what?" Sawatari blinked in surprise.
"Get this in your head, Sawatari. Outmatched and outnumbered are two completely different things. And you may outnumber me now, but what I'm about to do. Oh, I'm going to enjoy every bit of your demise." I said, before taking two cards in my hand. Two cards that would change the viewpoints of everyone watching this Duel. "Using the Scale 1 MS Pilot - Amuro Ray and the Scale 9 MS Pilot - Char Aznable, I set the Pendulum Scale!" I placed the two mentioned cards on my Duel Board at opposite ends. The word 'PENDULUM' appeared in a rainbow of colors.
Two pillars of light appeared behind me. Glancing back, I saw a brown-haired young man in a white pilot suit with a red line running down the middle floating on my right while on my left is an older man with slicked blonde hair and dressed in a golden yellow pilot suit. The numbers '1' and '9' appeared below the feet of the duo.
"With this, I'm able to simultaneously Summon any Monsters between Levels 2 and 8 at the same time!" I declared.
"Sway, to-and-fro sway! Let the potential of humanity reach its epoch and unveil its light! Pendulum Summon! Appear before me, my Gundams!"
A portal opened in the sky above me and out came four different trails of light that formed into four different Gundams that appeared on my Field.
"Let's give a big applause for the arriving entertainment! Gundam Mark 2!" Appearing first is a white mobile suit that looked like a more advanced version of the original RX-78-2 Gundam that wielded a beam rifle and a shield (4/ATK: 1600/DEF: 1200). "Full-Armor Gundam!" Next came a Gundam heavily armored and carrying a surplus of firepower that was painted forest green (4/ATK: 1400/DEF: 2100). "Gundam Alex!" Another Gundam painted white and blue while clad in heavy armor appeared wielding a beam rifle and shield (4/ATK: 1400/DEF: 1800). "And the star of the show, Nu Gundam!" The final Gundam looked far more advanced than the other four; painted white with black and bearing a red 'A' emblem on its left shoulder, along with an arsenal composed of a beam rifle, a shield, a bazooka mounted on its back along with what seemed to be a mechanical wing composed of multiple parts (7/ATK: 2500/DEF: 2100).
"No way! Four Gundams all at once?!" Yuya gawked. "And with…Pendulum Summoning…?"
"So cooooool!" Futoshi said, with sparkles in his eyes.
"Hmph, so you can Pendulum Summon as well," Sawatari remarked, despite the sweat forming on his brow. "But most of your monsters are weaker than my own."
"I'm not done. I activate Amuro Ray's Pendulum Effect!" I declared as Amuro produced a T-shaped object that glowed with a greenish light. "By paying half my Life Points, I can use him and a Monster with "Gundam" in its name on my Field in order to perform a Synchro Summon!"
"What?!" My opponent exclaimed in shock.
Yusuke LP: 250
"When Amuro is used for a Synchro Summon from the Pendulum Zone, he is treated as a Level 3 Tuner Monster! I tune my Level 3 Amuro Ray with my Level 4 Gundam Mark 2!" I continued as the green light engulfed Amuro, turning him into three Synchro Gates that Gundam flew right into, becoming an orange outline of itself.
"Blaze a path as the vanguard of the stars! Let your blade sing as you crush the evil ambitions of tyranny! Synchro Summon! Roar with the strength of a demon, Crossbone Gundam!"
Appearing out of a tunnel of light is a new Gundam that seemed a bit shorter than the others on the field, yet it looked quite intimidating such as the skull and crossbones emblazoned on its head crest as well as the four crossbone-like thrusters on its back. It was mostly white with a dark navy torso and the upper part of the shoulder armor as well. There was even a slightly tattered black cloak that was equipped on it and even seemed capable of covering the Gundam. Green optic eyes flared as the new Synchro Monster brought up an intriguing rifle that seemed like a cross between a saber and a flintlock pistol. (7/ATK: 2800/DEF: 1800)
"Yusuke-niichan's new Synchro Monster!" Tatsuya exclaimed with joy.
"So cool!" Ayu and Futoshi joined in.
"A Pendulum Summon…to a Synchro Summon…?" Yuzu watched the events with awe.
"How… How could he be doing this?" Yuya pondered, surprised and confused.
I smirked, "I'm not done yet! When Amuro Ray is used as a Tuner to Synchro Summon while in the Pendulum Zone, I can banish one Machine-type Monster from my Graveyard to replace him back in an empty Pendulum Zone. I remove Gundam Ground Type in order to return Amuro Ray back into my lone Pendulum Zone!" The card of Gundam Ground Type left my GY Slot which I placed in my empty deck holster while Amuro returned to his place in the Pendulum Scale.
"From Pendulum…to Synchro…" Sawatari looked shocked at seeing the Crossbone Gundam.
"And there's more to come." I stated. I gestured a hand towards my other Pendulum Zone. "I activate Char Aznable's Pendulum Effect! By banishing one Monster on my Field and one in my Graveyard, I can use them as Fusion Material for a Fusion Summon!"
"What?! Fusion, too!?" Sawatari exclaimed in shock.
"I banish Guncannon from my Field and Guntank from my Graveyard! With these two Monsters, I shall call forth a new unstoppable war machine!" I cried out as Guncannon vanished into motes of blue light that then entered a Fusion Vortex along with an astral projection of Guntank.
"Crimson soldier forged in steel and tempered by iron, merge with the relentless artillery to forge a new possibility! Fusion Summon! Incinerate all in your path, Phantom Gundam!"
A blaze of violet flames erupted from the vortex. A pair of yellow eyes along with a devilish glowing yellow mouth appeared from within the flames. When the fire subsided, a new Gundam appeared on the Field. Like the Crossbone Gundam, it seemed shorter than the other Gundams present. Instead of antenna horns, it had a long head crest like the plume of an ancient Greek soldier. It was painted mostly green and dark green with white accents and a skull painted on its torso. (8/ATK: 2500/DEF: 1500)
"Pendulum… Synchro… Fusion… all that's left is…" Yuzu muttered with wide eyes.
"And now, I Overlay my Level 4 Gundam Alex and Full-Armor Gundam to construct the Overlay Network!" I declared as both my monsters transformed into streaks of orange light as a black vortex opened in front of me while the lights entered the dark vortex.
"The flag of the wayward Titan shall be flown on the fields of battle! Tear and rend all who stand in your way with your limitless potential! Xyz Summon! Soar and destroy, Gundam Woundwort!"
Emerging from the black vortex is a new Gundam that had a vastly different frame than the other Gundams. For one, it had reverse-jointed legs, an angular body, and a rounded head that looked more like a cross between a mask and a helmet. It also wielded a large weapon that seemed to be a cross between a gun, sword, and shield. (4/ATK: 2100/DEF: 1400/OU: 2)
"Bear witness, Sawatari! You face a Field of nearly all known Summon Methods!" I told my opponent as my Gundams looked ready to tear the boy's monsters to shreds.
Sawatari on the other hand looked considerably pale as all the color seemingly left him, leaving him in only white and a black outline. I think I saw a brown spot too, which I think he soiled himself right then and there.
"Ladies and gentlemen!" I shouted with a grin. "I hope you've enjoyed the Duel presented to you today! Now then, watch as my new assistants use their talents to turn my opponent's monsters into fireworks!"
"Eh? He used Yuya's line?" Yuzu blinked in confusion.
"What are you doing?" Ray asked.
Putting on a show, of course.
"First off, I'll activate Phantom Gundam's effect! When he's Fusion Summoned this turn, he lowers the ATK of all my opponent's monsters by 200 times their Level!" I explained my Fusion Monster's effect.
"Like I'll let you do that! Then I'll just activate my Trap! Breakthrough Skill!" Sawatari retorted as his only back row card rose up. "This will let me negate the effects of one of your monsters this turn, and I choose your Phantom Gundam!"
"Counter Trap, activate! Psycho-Field!" I interjected, playing the first face-down that I had played since the start of the game. The image on the card revealed the Nu Gundam releasing a green aura that seemed to affect other mobile suits around it. "When my opponent activates a Spell or Trap that targets a 'Gundam' monster on my Field, by sending one card from my hand to the Graveyard, I can nullify its effect and destroy it!" I placed a card from my dwindling hand to the GY Slot and watched as a green aura surrounded the Field. This nullified and shattered Sawatari's Trap card.
"No way!" He exclaimed in shock.
"Now then. Phantom Gundam's effect continues! Flame Salvo!" The violet flames returned once more, even forming fiery V-shaped horns from its head crest as its mouth plate suddenly split open to reveal a devilish glowing yellow mouth. Then it unleashed those flames which struck all three of Sawatari's monsters.
Power Darts Shooter (ATK: 1800-800)
Rocket Darts Shooter (ATK: 1900-700)
Ultimate Darts Shooter (ATK: 2400-1000)
"Next is Crossbone Gundam's effect! When he's successfully Synchro Summoned, my opponent cannot activate any card effects until the End Phase." I said, gesturing towards Crossbone as its eyes flashed and the mouth plate split open, revealing a similar devil-like mouth that glowed yellow. "Demon's Roar!" A mechanical screech echoed from the Gundam, forcing Sawatari to cover his ears from the horrid noise while his three Darts monsters seemed to be groaning in discomfort.
"He negated all their effects!" Yuya said with awe.
"And lowered their attack power as well." Yuzu added, equally surprised.
"Now, Woundwort's effect activates!" I gestured to my Xyz Monster as one of its Orbitals entered its body. "By using an Overlay Unit, my opponent cannot use their Spell or Trap Zones for the rest of the turn! However, by doing so, it cannot conduct its Battle Phase this turn. Sealing Bombardment!"
The Gundam aimed at Sawatari and fired a barrage of beams from its long-barreled rifle which struck the Spell/Trap Zones on his Duel Board, including Timegazer Magician and Stargazer Magician, which both shattered into pixels.
"And finally, I activate Nu Gundam's effect! When he's Pendulum Summoned to the Field, I can choose two cards previously sent to the Graveyard this turn via a card effect and add them to my hand. The cards I choose to add are Stargazer Magician and Timegazer Magician!" I explained my lone Pendulum Monster's effect as the wing-shaped object on its back suddenly separated. "Psycho-Frame Snatch!" The fin funnels surrounded Sawatari before firing beams that struck his Duel Disk, or more specifically, his GY Slot and out popped Yuya's Pendulum cards which were brought to me and I added them to my hand.
"HEY!" Sawatari snapped.
"Yuya, catch!" I said, throwing the cards at him to which he caught.
"My cards…" Yuya looked at his treasured magicians with a fond smile.
I grinned at the sight before focusing back on Sawatari. "And now that you don't have any more leverage over us, it's time for the finale! Battle!" I declared, gesturing towards my opponent and his monsters. "Crossbone Gundam attacks Power Darts Shooter! Zanbuster Shot!"
Crossbone Gundam's eyes flared before it aimed its rifle at Power Darts Shooter and fired a pinpoint pink-violet beam that pierced the monster's chest, destroying it.
Sawatari LP: 2000
"Next, Phantom Gundam attacks Rocket Darts Shooter! Phantom Light!" I shouted as the inflamed Gundam took off towards the red robotic warrior and seemed to pass right through it. When the Gundam landed in a crouch, Rocket Darts Shooter suddenly flinched before exploding into a brilliant violet cloud.
Sawatari LP: 200
"Finally, Nu Gundam attacks Ultimate Darts Shooter!" I declared as my lone Pendulum Monster's eyes flared before it drew its beam saber and flew towards Sawatari's last monster.
*SLASH!*
Instantaneously, Sawatari's monster got cut in half and Sawatari, having snapped out of his stupor, saw the top half of his Monster about to crash down on him. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!" He screamed as he tried to scramble away like the coward he is, though falling down promptly. He turned around seeing that he was about to meet his doom, only for it to disappear into data particles at the last second.
Sawatari LP: 0
"I win." I said, bluntly.
The Action Field had begun to disappear but not before I sent an unseen signal to my Gundams to get Yuya, Yuzu, and the kids. Nu Gundam carried Yuya, Phantom Gundam carried Yuzu, Crossbone Gundam carried Tatsuya, Gundam Woundwort had Ayu on its booster while carrying Futoshi in its arms. With their job finished in depositing the youths to the safety of ground level earth, the four Gundams vanished along with the Action Field.
"I-Impossible… I… I thought I would-"
"You thought you would, what, Sawatari?" I retorted as I approached him and picked him up by his collar. "You thought you could get away with whatever you had planned? Well, I got news for ya. It didn't work. And if you do that to me or my friends again, this beatdown is the least of your worries."
Sawatari shrunk back from the cold glare I gave him before dropping him on his ass.
With one final glare, I turned around to leave and met up with Yuya and company. "Sorry about that." I waved.
"Hey, it's no problem." Yuya grinned. "Thanks for getting my cards back."
"No worries. Just… be careful next time."
"If getting them fairly won't work then I'll get them by force." Sawatari looked at his goons. "Get them! I want those cards!"
His trio of lackeys prepared to get physical with the You Show students, prompting me, Yuya, and Yuzu to stand protectively in front of the kids. Luckily, a sky blue blur managed to stop them by knocking all three goons out. The assailant is revealed to be a boy, who looked a year or two younger than Yuya and Yuzu. He had light cyan hair that is tied up and spiked out. He wears a blue jacket with a yellow and orange trim over a black t-shirt. He also wears a pair of light gray cargo shorts over long white socks and brown shoes. He also had a lollipop in his mouth.
"Wha-?!" Sawatari managed to blurt out as he watched everything unfold in front of him, looking over to the young boy who had appeared out of virtually thin air.
"Ahem." I fake coughed, getting Sawatari to look at me. "Boo."
The boy squealed like a girl before promptly fainting.
Hmph, loser.
"Thanks for the help." Yuya told the younger boy that helped them with the goons.
"No problem! And as thanks for letting me help you, I want to be your apprentice!" The boy said, pointing at…
…me?!
"Huh?"
(3rd POV)
"That imbecile! He had the Pendulum Cards and now he's lost them." A man in a suit with sunglasses cursed. "Get security. Do not let those kids escape."
"No." A commanding voice interjected, stopping the man. "We've gathered valuable data on the Pendulum Cards as is, let them leave."
"Reiji-sama, are you sure?"
"Nakajima, tell me the readings of Fujimura Yusuke's various Summonings?" Reiji inquired.
"It seems the readings are all simultaneously high. To be able to have such strong readings in Fusion, Xyz, Synchro, and Pendulum? It's practically impossible."
"Wrong, it just means that he has potential." Reiji stated. "And with that kind of power under my control, the Lancers would be unstoppable."
"Are you thinking of recruiting him?"
"We'll just have to wait and see." Reiji said, his eyes gazed at the screen, looking at Yusuke. "All I know is that he's too invaluable to let go."
A/N: And that's the end of the chapter.
Oh, and here's the honorable mentions that managed to figure out my little challenge from last chapter:
shadowsharkds
Bia1230
kungfubrawler77
Starwar98
naminexriku2468
Congratulations to these five for figuring out the challenge. Or rather, at least participating. Now, as a bonus, I'll be giving you readers a little participation challenge. As you know, Yusuke has several Decks that use different Summoning Methods or Dueling Styles. One of those styles will include Rush Duels. As such, I've already created a few cards that will serve as the Deck's aces. As such, I'm giving you guys the challenge to petition the effect and appearance on these monsters. Here is what they are:
Blue-Tooth Gundam (Level 7/Effect)
Red-Boost Gundam (Level 7/Effect)
Gold-Access Gundam (Level 6/Effect)
Violet-Delete Gundam (Level 8/Fusion)
Verde-Data Gundam (Level 8/Fusion)
Amber-Code Gundam (Level 8/Fusion)
White-Vaccine Gundam (Level 10/Fusion)
Black-Virus Gundam (Level 10/Fusion)
These are the ace monsters for the Rush Duel Deck. If you guys have any ideas for effects, be sure to tell me in a PM. If you are a Guest, I'm sorry but it won't count. Instead, guest reviewers may petition OC Gundam cards for different Decks. However, be sure to add the name, what summoning method is used, the attack and defense points, the effect if it has one, and the appearance.
Review and comment on this chapter. Love it, hate it, but just know that you've read it.
Peace out, everyone!
