Ch.2 Unbeholden
'Free me... Kill me... Monster... killer... FREE ME...KILLER... MONSTER... ASSASSIN... BASTARD... KILLER.' Ghostly figures appeared around Kai but can only be seen by Kai.
"Ugh great my batteries decided to be a bother." Kai said casually to him self as he sat in Ozmo's sidekicks class in his normal attire with his evil sword resting beside him.
"Don't worry Azmi I am sure you will be fine." Lilith said to him with a smile.
Looking at her Kai saw bags under her eyes as she fiddled with the beacon uniform.
"You know you don't look good with bags under your eyes" Kai said casually with no emotion the way he spoke since becoming immortal.
"Well sadly some of us still have human sensations unlike you." Lilith said while glaring daggers at Kai.
"Don't you always point things out that I am doing wrong." Kai said.
"That's different that's my job I have to take care of you and make sure you don't get off the rocker." Lilith said as she facepalmed.
"Then what's my job?"Kai asked.
"Sorry your majesty his holy eminence Azrael let me tell you, you do the killing while I keep you sane." Lilith snapped regretting it when the look on Kai's face went from his usual blank stare to a straight line.
"Lilith if you say that name again I promise the world we walk will never be the same." Kai said blandly.
"I am sorry Kai I didn't sleep well last night." Lilith said as she bowed her head.
Looking around Kai noticed that everyone was paying attention to the fight below so their cover was still good.
"It's fine Lilith, honestly my brith name should be used again." Kai said blankly.
"Will Kai Hanzo and Vermilion Katakuri come down next." Ms Goodwitch asked as a holo screen displayed Kai's picture and his Opponent's
"Well I'll make this quick." Kai said as he walked down the stairs that were in the middle of the walkway.
Yawn* "Man finally something happens." Kai said faking his emotions when he reached the arena.
"Hmph I hope you stay awake long enough during our match." Vermilion said cockily.
"Only if you are entertaining." *Yawn* "But so far your pretty damn boring." Kai said with a fake smile.
"Oh I am going to enjoy pounding your face in." Vermilion said while grinding her fist into her palm.
Vermilion wore red parachute pants with gold sandals for a top she wore a black spots bra and her weapons were a pair of Cestus. She got in a boxing stance and started to bounce from foot to foot.
"Oh kinky." Kai said with a serene voice that sounded like silk.
"The match will begin when the timer sounds off and end when the buzzer sounds." Ms Goodwitch said before walking to a wall and slightly leaning against it.
As the timer counted down Vermilion got anxious watching how her opponent didn't even get into a combat stance just before the timer hit 3 Kai looked vermilion in the eyes.
"Your soul has a beautiful color I wonder what color it will be when I beat you." Kai smiled showing his sharpened teeth.
A small chill came down Vermilion's spin causing her to stop for a second then the timer sounded off and she shot off like a bullet aiming for Kai's head, but when she reached him he was no longer there the only thing there was the sparks of red lightning.
"Your fast but not fast enough." Kai said behind Vermilion.
She spun around swinging her fist at the same time only to be met with his weapon that was still wrapped in the black linens.
Kai smiled before releasing a current of red lightning out from the blade. Vermilion jumped back but not quick enough as her body jolted from the currents of lightning lighting her body up in a brilliant bright red glow.
Vermilion screamed out her arms going limp at her sides, her body smoking and shaking.
"Hmm seems I got to add more aura next time it seems that you still have half your aura left." Kai said chuckling to himself.
Cough, cough, cough* " what was that?" Vermilion asked in a trembling voice.
"My semblance Red lightning, but honestly knowing this won't help you beat me simply put you can't." Kai said looking her in the eyes, His eyes glowing red.
"Honestly no one can beat me not in this life time nor the next you are all ants compared to me!" Kai yelled in a frenzy so everyone could hear him causing a majority of the students to recoil in their seats.
"But enough of that time to finish this because I've had enough of this." Kai said blankly the facade was gone as he grabbed vermilion by the neck and threw her out of the ring.
"Oh now you'r soul matches those of your status broken." Kai said with a smirk.
Up in the stands Lilith could only look on as Kai got scolded by Ms Goodwitch and looking at the aura read outs Kai had no aura missing while his opponent had half. she was looking until the shuffling of seats to her right.
"You know that friend of yours shouldn't have gone that hard." A shrill voice said.
"Well it's true no one can beat him at least not now." Lilith said while rubbing her eyes after which she kept looking at Kai arguing with the teacher.
"What is that supposed to mean?" A shy but quiet voice said.
"Well it's hard to say, but one thing is he is highly trained in marshal arts along with aura as well." Lilith said as she saw Kai walking up the steps with a blank stare.
Lilith didn't hear the rest as she got up and walked away to meet Kai part way as the bell rung and the teacher dismissed the class. Reaching Kai and smiling at him.
"Well what are your thoughts." Lilith asked while poking him in the arm.
"They have potential if that girl could survive a red lightning strike at five percent power they have a decent chance to survive the job that is being a fucking huntsman." Kai said turning around.
"Come on you said you got bad sleep so you are taking a nap." Kai said and started to walk.
"Ugh thanks I am going to need it." Lilith's shoulders slumped slightly, she then straightened and followed behind Kai smiling the whole time.
Entering the room and hearing the door close Lilith sighed and looked at Kai.
"Well lay down and I'll get changed into something else."
As Kai sat in the bed he felt nothing not the fur blankets that they have brought from their cabin nor the sheets he felt nothing.
Kai brought his wrapped sword and placed it in his lap.
"Kill me... Free me... Brother Free me... assassin... monster." souls said as they showed themselves before Kai's eyes.
As Lilith was changing her stomach growled loudly. "Hey Kai can you grab me some dinner please."
"Yeah I can." Kai said as he got up and walked to the cafeteria.
Entering the cafeteria and hearing the massive amount of people in the room chatter and the clank of plates and silverware. As he walked to the line for Lilith's food he was stopped by three people who dressed similar to the person he beat in Ozmo's side kicks class.
"Oi are ye Kai?" A soon to be dead man spoke.
"Move aside battery I have no use for you." Kai said.
As Kai brushed past them and tried to make his way through them but stopped when the two people behind the soon to be dead man got in his way.
"Wot did ye call me?" the soon to be dead man said angrily.
"Oh I didn't know you were deaf and dumb damn you got the short end of the stick." Kai said while looking at them their souls the color of yellow.
"Ew and your lower class stay away before you infect me with your subpar intelligence." Kai said.
That seemed to only fester the anger of them as all three swung there fists at Kai. Everyone looked over when a burst of red lightning crackling out striking everywhere in a five foot radius knocking chairs and tables every luckily no one was sitting there.
"You get once chance leave and I won't beat you to a bloody pulp or stay and I beat you to a bloody pulp." Kai said without emotion.
All three stood up bodies slightly trembling. The red lightning that Kai summoned seemed to disapat around them.
'Kill them brother... make them see the Scion of the solar empire... kill them.' Kai heard a voice in his head causing him to stop a moment.
"Well what is your choice?" Kai said.
" We will fight." The soon to be dead man said.
"Shame I was hoping you would run." Kai said emotionlessly.
Seeing as the three men in front of him get in fighting stances he decided to stop pulling his punches. starting to unwrap his sword the lightning that emminated from his body seemed to increase. Once the blade was fully unwrapped the three men experienced a heavy weight on their shoulders threatening them to collapse.
"Well seeing as I have to get back to Lilith soon I can't play to long so I hope that you are in the mood to visit a hospital."
With his words said Kai dropped the wrappings and shot off in a blur of red lightning as it covered his entire body. the first person to be taken out was the man on the left as Kai appeared with an explosion of lightning.
Standing tall as his first victim fell to the ground their twitching body and shallow breathing letting him know that they are alive.
"Seems I overestimated your strength." Kai said blankly.
"I'll kill you." The second guy yelled as he rushed Kai.
Kai side-steped the kid and tripped him causing him to fall on his face. The soon to be dead man tried to land a heavy blow to Kai's head only to end up on the ground.
"Well I had my fun time to end this." Kai said as he plunged his blade into the ground and held out his arms.
"Sword art: Red lightning dragon." Kai said as the Red lightning that was around his body seemed to become more aggressive as it struck at anything and every thing in Kai's vicinity the cafeteria darkened all light in the room seemed to die all except for the light of the lightning.
'Ha..Ha...Ha kill them brother...kill them Azrael...show them the mighty power of the angle of death.' Kai's brothers chanted in his mind.
"HA HA HA HA HA... you all are so weak... I should purge you all... HA HA HA HA..." Kai said as he raised his hands and the lightning seemed to stop but the lights didn't return then as suddenly as the lightning stopped a gigantic dragon head made of laughing appeared under Kai and his enemies with its mouth opened. Slowly closing its jaws only to stop when a green barrier enclosed around the fallen people.
"Kai my office now!" Ozpin demanded.
"Well Ozmo I don't think so." Kai said as he grabbed his sword and walked up to the lunch table grabbing a plate of food and walked out of the cafeteria.
The entire student body was quite looking at the deviation that was caused. Tables splintered and the floor was shattered, some of the students got hit by stray lightning and were laying on the ground.
"What was that?" Jaune asked looking at the deviation.
"A warning to everyone that would try to challenge him." Pyrrha said putting a hand on jaune's shoulder.
Ozpin now outside of Kai and Lilith's room knocked on the door. It opened Kai was standing there looking at Ozpin with a blank stare.
"Come back later Lilith is sleeping." Kai said closing the door only for it to be stopped by Ozpin's cain.
"I want to talk to you." Ozpin said with a deadly serious expression.
"Eh why not." Kai said as he stepped out of the room not wearing his jacket.
"The students that you fought today are in the infirmary the nurse says they won't be able to make a full recovery and most likely end up living from disability check to disability check due to how much of your lightning they were exposed too." Ozpin said leaning on his cain.
"So it was their fault for challenging a superior opponent and failed to retreat when given the opportunity if anything I did you a favor by getting rid of those weaklings." Kai said emotionlessly.
"Their families would have have to take care of them struggling to make ends meet due to not having enough money to even feed the family already. The reason I tell you this is simply so you could understand that your actions have consequences Kai we can't run around acting like the brothers we have to be better." Ozpin hung his head.
"If humanity wasn't so weak then they would have probably been able to continue but as far as I see it they had no right to even be a huntsman. How they even got this far is beyond me since when have you allowed these types of people in your school?" (1) Kai said while leaning back.
"The strength of aura has greatly diminished since you last took to the battle field Kai, even then I accepted anyone who had potential for the taxing job that is a huntsman humanity has always prevailed over the hardest of tasks." Ozpin said with a glimmer is his eyes.
" Humanity is fragile the only thing in this world that can survive and live was the Hyperions I should know I am one of them." Kai said as he looked into the distance.
"And look at what happened to them gone just like my age of man." Ozpin said.
"Because I killed them as a race of "humans" we pushed the grim to the dark continent and kept them there and advanced our technology far beyond what the people have now, the fact the Lilith and I are immortal is a testament to our power as Hyperions they were not human for they where far greater." Kai said
"Then why did you kill them?" Ozpin asked.
"They did the one thing that I couldn't agree with for it didn't make sense logically, they sold their souls to the brothers and began fighting with each other so I killed them and destroyed most of their souls, and consumed my father and brothers souls to forever torment them because so long as I am alive they will never know rest." Kai for the first time in meeting Kai spoke with such conviction.
"So they found gods and you thought that was enough and just killed them?"
"No when you sacrifice duty for some self righteous goal yes." Kai said.
"You really have no love for humans." Ozpin said realization finally coming to him.
"If I didn't care for them then I wouldn't have given them aura, if I didn't care for them then I would still be in the cabin with Lilith and not jumping head first into a war that I don't even know the plan of." Kai said.
"The plan is simple once you get your license we take down Salem's spy networks around the world, then we take down her inner circle, after that we take her down with the help of the silver eyed warrior." Ozpin said as he stood in front of Kai.
"Ah the warriors of light more help from the god of light I thought I killed all of them." Kai said.
"No you didn't and if anything happens to her I will personally kill you." Ozpin said with a glare.
"You can try many have and many have failed, let me give you a hint you need my sword art to even lay a scratch on me and the only one who knows it outside of me is dead." Kai smiled.
"I will find a way." Ozpin said.
"Anyways so long as she doesn't start preaching the brothers words she will be fine." Kai said simply.
They stood in silence for a little until a door clicked and Lilith walked out in a set of very comfortable looking pajamas.
"Kai get back to bed." Lilith said and entered the room once more.
"Well I gotta go back nice talking to you Ozmo get some sleep you look like a walking corpse." Kai said.
"Better to look like one then be one my old friend." Ozpin said back with a sad look on his face.
The next couple of days for Kai were uneventful listening to teachers prattle on about things that he knew. Lilith on the other hand seemed like she was learning everything for the first time hanging on the teachers every word sitting there with barley controlled excitement.
Walking to the cafeteria Lilith talked about the day with Kai.
"Did you finish the assignment from the doctor Kai?" Lilith asked looking ahead.
"Why would I just so I can appease someone who I have nothing to do with."
"Well we need to graduate and this assignment is a big part of our grade if you put forth the effort you could get an easy A." Lilith said as she grabbed Kai's hand.
"I know I still don't see a point in doing it." Kai said.
"Just do it for me." Lilith said finally noticing the looks they where receiving.
"Fine I will see about doing this assignment." Kai said as they reached the cafeteria.
When they entered they were met with mis Goodwitch waiting for them.
"Kai Hanzo I hope another fight won't break out." Glynda said giving Kai the death stare.
"If no one starts anything there won't be otherwise I will make sure not to do any lasting damage." Kai said.
"Kai play nice." Lilith scolded.
"I'm always nice." Kai said.
"If anything happens I will protect my students at any cost remember that for the next time." Glynda said and walked out.
"You may try, but not much can stop me." Kai said and received a slap to the arm from Lilith.
"What did you do Kai?" Lilith asked as she crossed her arms.
"Sent a few kids to the hospital Ozmo informed me last night that they can't continue to be huntsman." Kai said as he walked to an empty table and sat down.
"Kai." Lilith said with a irritated voice as she got some food and sat next to Kai.
"Yes?" Kai asked.
"Why did you do that?" Lilith asked getting even more frustrated with Kai.
"They where in my way I even gave them a way to surrender but they wanted to fight so I made sure they would remember me." Kai said as he began to inspect his sword.
"Ugh you know that people will be watching us even more now what happens when someone finds out that you don't eat hmm what happens when they find out that we are immortal Kai." Lilith said under her breath angrily.
"Simple we kill anyone who finds out." Kai said.
"I for one would like to not have blood on my hands." Lilith said as she looked at her hands.
"You need not worry Lil for my blood stained hands will be the only ones getting more blood on them." Kai said with an uncharacteristic emotion catching Lilith off guard.
"What was that Kai?" Lilith asked looking at Kai like he was sick.
"Same as normal." Kai said
"You just showed some emotion Kai what is going on?" Lilith asked still looking at Kai.
"My brothers talked to me I think it unlocked something inside of me." Kai said.
"So the return of Azrael is going to happen?" Lilith asked with hope.
"Maybe, but for now eat you need it." Kai said as he closed his eyes.
Once his eyes closed he was transported to an endless void of white light. There he stood with his normal clothes, but standing in front of him was a person covered in a cloud of darkness.
"Kai you inhabit my body I want it back." the figure said with an echo.
"I think not angle of death you had your time." Kai said.
"My time is unending my life unbound my patience is that of stone." Azrael said as he pointed a scythe at Kai.
"I am Kai Hanzo warrior of red lightning you will die to my hand." Kai said as his red blade manifested itself to his hand.
"The only one that is going to die is you." Azrael said as he readied his scythe.
"Lightning dash." Kai said as he dashed forward landing a hit to the midsection of the figure only to disburse in to a cloud of black smoke.
"This is my mind you can't kill me, you failed to uphold my ideals so for that you are dead." Azrael said.
"Soul sword art: soul hunt." Azrael said as he dashed forward in a cloud of blueish black smoke when he reached Kai he swung up hitting Kai and blood to gush forth coating the scythe.
Kai's body crumpled to the ground in a heap. Standing over him Azrael grabbed Kai's head and used his scythe to chop the head off forever killing him.
"So ends his tyranny. Lilith I am coming home." Azrael said his form became encapsulated by a white light.
Opening his eyes Azrael notice that he was not somewhere he remembered. Last time he was awake the Solar empire was still around. the roof of the building was made out of wood and walls made of stone and the floor was a white tile and the room filled with medical machines.
"Ugh if I knew that getting rid of Kai would give me a headache I would have found another way to take control." Azrael said his voice deep and calm but driped with pain as he grabbed his head.
"Kai?" a familiar voice said to Azrael.
"Lilith is that you?" Azrael asked as he looked to his left.
"Of course it's me dummy who else would it be." Lilith said but as she looked into Kai's eyes she noticed that they are filled with something she hasn't seen in a long time from him emotion.
"Azrael is that you?" Lilith asked as she covered her mouth with her hands crying as she gazed up Azrael her love.
"Who else would it be?" Azrael said as he sat up and got out of the bed standing tall he felt the cool air and shivered. He also felt the warm embrace of Lilith as she hugged Azrael with everything in her body.
"Okay while I get dressed let me know everything." Azrael said as started to get dressed.
"Well Kai made a deal with Ozpin for his soul me and him will help him defeat salem so far Kai has made you look like a villain only using red lightning." Lilith said to Azrael looking at his impressive body.
"Ok so that limits what I weapon I can fight with I'm sorry you had to deal with that after the procedure to become immortal I was locked within my own conscience force to watch as Kai lived my life and killed everyone my brothers, father, my men, and our people it was horrible." Azrael said as he put on his jacket.
"I'm sorry I couldn't do anything Azmi I just couldn't find any way to find you in his mind it was like you disappeared." Lilith said as she started to cry.
Holding her hand Azrael smiled.
"Don't worry love I'm back that all that matters but now I have to get a shirt because it is really drafty in here." Azrael said as he walked past a bed of a woman who seemed like she was dead.
Using soul sight he saw what the problem was. Her soul was being suppressed by Kai's Red lightning.
"She fought Kai and so did three others I can heal them if you want?" Lilith asked.
"Do you even have to ask I want to make up for everything that bastard did in my body." Azrael said as he placed a hand on Lilith's shoulder.
"I'll head back to the room and change into something more modest." Kai said as he kisses Lilith cheek and walked out of the room.
Walking out of the building feeling the slightly cold wind on his chest he walked up to a sign and tried to read the labels.
"Okay dorms to the west alright now time to figure out what room we are in oh let me call Asmodeus." Azrael said to himself holding out his hand for his sword to fly into his hand.
"Hi old friend can you show me to mine and Lilith's room." Azrael asked as the sword made a couple of sounds.
"HA I knew I could count on you so what should we talk about to catch up we missed so much time?" Azrael asked as he walked to the dorms.
"Interesting so you are telling me that Kai has corrupted you and that is why you are red I am sorry my friend so not only did he take my title as father of aura he also corrupted my oldest friend I am sorry." Azrael said as he entered the room.
"Wow it's cozy in here nice and warm. right need to get my clothes on thanks for reminding me old friend." Azrael said as he set the blade down and went to the closet.
"Let's see ah it seems my armor his here so is Lilith's so she brought it good on her ahah my old uniform let's hope it fits." Azrael said as he grabbed the outfit and began to put it on.
Once finished he had on a pair of black boot that separated into two pieces and where kept together and stayed tight by a buckle, his pants where black jeans he had three belts on one with a sheath for his sword the other two had different canisters filled with different types of explosives, for a top he had a red shirt that had the symbol of a white crystal on it over that he wore his white leather jacket that had a brown fur lining with a red dragon on it. His long black hair draped over his back covering the symbol.
"Well how do I look old friend." Azrael asked.
"I look good thank you now time to get lil's opinion and then talk with this Ozpin." Azrael said then heard the door open.
"Azmi you look amazing so what is the plan my love?" Lilith asked as she handed Asmodeus to Azrael.
"First talk to this Ozpin next get Asmodeus purified." Azrael said as he grabbed Lilith's had walked out of the room.
"Ok my love I'll show you the way." Lilith said as she walked to Ozpin's tower.
"I always liked it when you lead." Azrael said with a smile.
walking to the tower was filled with such beauty as Azrael saw the beautiful buildings and plants and the few people who walked around.
"So Ozpin doesn't know who Azrael is so it would be best to introduce yourself to him ok." Lilith said as she hugged Azrael once more.
"Don't worry love I got this." Azrael said with conviction.
"It's my job to worry." Lilith said with a smile.
walking into the building Azrael was met with a woman at a desk with a computer.
"Hello ma'am I would like to speak with Ozpin." Azrael said as politely as possible.
"Of course sir and ma'am right this way." the woman said as she opened the elevator.
entering the office of Ozpin Azrael was full with confusion as he heard the gears of clocks ticking over his head looking around he saw a balcony and a desk that was in the middle of the room and an old man sat at the desk.
"Excuse me sir are you Ozpin?" Azrael asked.
"Yes Kai I am Ozpin I don't have time for your games today I have to talk to the families of your brutality." Ozpin said angrily.
"I am sorry for all of the damage that Kai has caused I did what I could to midigate the damage mainly influencing his decisions so for not doing more I am sorry." Azrael said with a bow of his head.
"Who are you Kai never said sorry." Ozpin said as he gave his full attention.
"My name is Azrael Pendragon Prince of the solar empire general of the legion of the soulless and husband to Lilith Farron." Azrael said as he stood tall.
"Azrael the angle of death how is this possible I thought you were a myth." Ozpin said.
"HA I hope not I just got freed from my imprisonment at the hands of my own empire speaking of which what age is it?" Azrael asked.
"It is the third age of man year 938 BC." Ozpin said as he stood
So sorry I didn't post for a bit but I am back so yay.
Right the story well if you think Azrael came back a little too soon don't worry it's part of the story and Kai will be back just not as you expect.
(1). The difference between Kai and Azrael is how they view humans Kai views them more as pests while Azrael views them like children to be protected.
originally Azrael was going to appear during the vital tournament but as I checked my outline I thought it more prudent to get the Azrael arc out of the way so instead of him learning what happened to the world while he was imprisoned while Salem and everyone was doing their stuff he could be doing his own thing to help.
the Next chapter will be named: The imprisoned.
