Soldiers Kentaro Yaguchi and Kawagi Mizuguchi walked across the halls, holding their rifles close to them as a defense mechanism. They could hear the haunting shuttering of the meganulon all around them, and weren't sure if they could survive. Suddenly, Mizuguchi turned around, but it was seemingly nothing.

However, when he turned around again, he saw Kentaro get pounced on by one of the meganulon. As the beast attempted to claw the soldier to death, he pulled up his maser rifle and blasted the meganulon, blowing it to pieces. However, in the time that it had taken him to make the move, Mizuguchi had been attacked by one of the beasts, and was killed before he could draw his weapon.

Kentaro turned around at his companions' screams, only to see the meganulon flee. Cursing, he grabbed his communicator and said,

"Mizuguchi's dead. One of the bugs got his blood. I'm going after it."

He then put his communicator back on his belt and ran off, chasing the meganulon deeper into the facility.

Hikaru Shobi screamed as he blasted the several meganulon around him with his maser gun. As he descended into full on hysterics, he yelled,

"Get away from me, you….you monsters!"

As he continued firing, the meganulon that had drank Mizuguchi's blood snuck behind him, and killed him with a spike to the back. As his body slumped to the floor, all of the Meganulon eagerly devoured his blood. They then all spread out, as suddenly Kentaro came running from the left side of the hallway, blasting the Meganulon away.

As the Meganulon scattered, the ones who had drunk human blood suddenly sprouted wings, flying away and shocking Kentaro. He then grabbed his communicator and said,

"Sergeant Hirosei, you're not gonna believe this but….a few of those things just grew wings and flew away."

"What?! Oh no, oh no no no no no…"

"You know what that means?"

It's something that's been theorized for decades but never actually been proven. In 1957 when they were excavating the caves where the Meganulons came from, we found some old cave paintings that showed them with wings. When the GMCF was formed we found more details. Apparently these things sucked blood from humans which allowed them to evolve into Meganula, and then sacrificed themselves to their queen!"

"And that means…?"

"If our theories were correct, that means their heading to their queen. But that's not all. Other unearthed tablets we found in the 80's showed that after absorbing the meganula, their queen grew into a giant dragonfly as big as a Rodan. We called it Megaguirus. Keep going, you have to stop these things from creating Megaguirus!"

"Roger that. Over and out."

Kentaro put away his communicator and began running down the path he had seen the meganula take.

The Meganulon snuck around, looking for humans to kill. He had seen these creature's weapons could easily kill his brethren, so he had to be sneaky. Suddenly, he heard something. A strange flapping noise, and a small roar. By the time the meganulon turned around, it was too late.

The infant Rodan, only about the size of a human currently, dug its teeth into the meganulon. The creature roared and struggled, but eventually it ceased, and the meganulon died. As soon as it finished feasting on the Meganulon's remains, the young Rodan roared and flew off, looking for more food.

Shida's eyes widened as he heard the sirens wail, indicating that a kaiju had escaped the enclosure. Since the Meganulon had already busted out of it's holding cell, there could only be one possible escapee, the baby Rodan whose egg had laid in their custody until now. He dreaded the day this moment would come.

To be honest, a part of him had hoped that the egg would never hatch. But now, it seemingly had. But then he remembered. The Meganulon were prey to the Rodans. So if Rodan was allowed to do its thing, then perhaps they could kill 2 birds with one stone: The Meganulon would be dead, and the soldiers could kill off the Rodan after it was weakened.

He wondered what he could do. He was just a scientist who had no combat training. He had seen Gamera's battle with Legion as a new recruit, and witnessed just 5 years ago Gamera's final battle against the Hyper Gyaos alongside Mothra. Gamera had been willing to put his life on the line for humanity, but humanity had no way of helping him.

He lamented his own weakness. Surely there must be something he could do, anything! He then looked at a bullet in a display case. It had been a weapon intended for use against Rozan, a bullet containing a deadly blood coagulant. After her departure from Earth the project had been shelved, and when kaiju started appearing again in the mid 90's, it was deemed that the coagulant in such a small device likely wouldn't work, and they probably wouldn't have even been able to pierce the kaiju's skins.

But with these smaller kaiju, it might work. Shida smashed open the display case with an ax on the wall, and put it into a gun he carried around for safety purposes. This was his only way to make a difference in this whole thing. He loaded the gun, and then headed down to where Rodan and the Meganulon were.

Rodan flew down at a couple of Meganulon and pecked at them vigorously. As he was doing this, one of them tried to stab him in the eye, but he caught his pincer with his jaw and snapped it in half with his jaw. The Meganulon screeched in pain, as Rodan bit into it once more, taking its life.

The other Meganulon attempted to flee, but Rodan began flapping its wings. Since it was still a newborn it's gust didn't do much, but it was still enough to stagger the Meganulon long enough for Rodan to lunge at it and rip it's throat out. With that done, Rodan then stretched its wings out, attempting to fly away so it could look for food elsewhere.

However, the stainless steel of the inner tunnels of the facility were impenetrable by the small animal, who began to claw at the ceiling. Just then, Shida showed up with a pistol in hand. Monster and man came face to face with each other, having a strong staredown. Before either of them could attack, one of the soldiers ran up to Shida and told him,

"Shida-san! We have to get out of here!!!"

"What?! Why?!"

"I've notified the GMCF of the problem. They say they're gonna bury this place with the Gotengo!"

"What?!"

Panicking, Shida began running out of the building with the GMCF soldier. The Rodan tried to follow them, but the soldier's maser shots kept it at bay. They heard explosions begin to bombard the facility. They didn't have much time before this place came crumbling down. They ran though the crowded corridors, killing any remaining Meganulon they saw.

Shida cursed. He had brought the blood coagulant bullet for nothing. He stashed his gun into it's holster, and simply continued running as the soldier kept firing. It took what felt like hours, but eventually, they managed to climb through an emergency exit and make it onto the surface. On the surface Shida saw Hirosei. Good. his friend had managed to make it out ok.

Before they could relax, they all heard a rumbling. They looked up at the sky, and there it was, the Gotengo. A flying submarine with a drill on its nose, some would say it was impractical. But in a world of kaiju, you needed all the firepower you could get. Not only was the Gotengo packed to the teeth with maser cannons, but it also had a secret last resort weapon intended for use against Godzilla.

The higher ups called it the pride of the GMCF, but since it had been completed in 2002 and had not faced Godzilla or Bagan when they attacked, now was it's chance to prove itself worthy of that title. Shida only hoped that this strategy would work, and that they wouldn't be taking dozens of soldiers down with the meganulons and Rodan.

John Frye smirked. He had been waiting for this moment for a long time. He had first joined the GMCF at the young age of 22 in 1987, and although he didn't get to dfo anything before the original incarnation of the task force disbanded in '94, he quickly joined the JSDF when he heard of giant bird monsters.

He had fought the mighty Gamera in the air and won, twice. Granted, that was with the help of others, but that was besides the point. Now he was getting to give the pride of the GMCF it's first ride. In his signature commanding tone he yelled,

"Fire all masers!"

The crew did just as he ordered. Immediately, dozens upon dozens of maser cannons began to bombard the facility. The soldiers and Shida were forced to cover their ears from the sound of the rocks exploding. Inside the creatures all reacted to the noise, scurrying around to find refuge. But none would come as the bombardment continued.

Eventually, it started to work. The caves under the facility began to collapse, burying whatever was inside it in rubble. The soldiers cheered as it appeared that the Meganulon were going down in smoke. Eventually, the firing stopped. The Gotengo briefly hovered in the air before coming down.

As it landed, Frye walked out and asked Shida's hand. Shida told him,

"Thank you for your help, Commander Frye. but…are you sure you got them all?"

"Doctor, I can assure you that there's no way that the creatures in that tunnel could've survived the pummeling we gave em. But under standard procedure we're gonna come back in a few days and check."

"Yes…..but what about the dimension tide?"

"Ah, don't worry. The big guys say that we just need to make sure nothing comes out of it and it should be good for use against the big guy. Now come on. We have orders to get you all out of here."

The soldiers and Shida all walked into the Gotengo, and after Frye walked back in and reassumed the controls, the super submarine soared into the sky.
