The Freedom Fight Saga Episode 12: For the People

Flashback:

Sometime ago, after Harvey Who asked Nicole to help him with a project…

Nicole along with Harvey Who are in a Secret HQ for the Secret Freedom Fighters under the City of New Mobotropolis.

"I am not generous in my praise, Nicole. So when I say this New Headquarters is 'exquisite' know that I mean it," Harvey Who says.

"Thank you, Director Who, but I really didn't do much. This base was left over from the Iron Dominion's occupation. Your demands were so fw, I hardly had to do anything," Nicole says.

'Keep things simple' That's my motto," Director Who says.

Then someone says "'Keep things simple'...?"

Nicole and Director Who turn their heads to see Uncle Chuck and Hersehy working on what looks like a Metal Sonic, but it's black with some yellow marking at front, and also has a green gemstone in the center.

"So simple that we have to have this from Princess Sally, my niece, nephew, and children for this secret project. And having us rebuild a Metal Sonic to boot," Uncle Chuck says.

"And you're doing a great job of it, gramps," The Metal Sonic says.

Director Who walks over to him, "I see you've got it up and running."

"Figuratively speaking. I'll need some legs to make it literal," The Metal Sonic says.

"I still thought it's weird when you asked Hershey and me to bring the remains of the Hyper Metal Sonic we found during our expedition, now I see why," Geoffrey says.

"You and me both," Hershey says.

"Hmph," Uncle Chuck replies, "I could get these recovered Metal Sonic, Metal Scourge, Metal Eve, and Troopers parts functioning on my own. But once they've joined to this thing's power gem matrix… the self-repair incorporates them faster than I can modify them."

"Guys? I'm right here… remember?" The Metal Sonic says.

"What I remember is that you almost killed my niece and nephew," Chuck says, sounding bitter.

"Yeah. I get it, I did pretty bad things in the past, attacking Sonic and Eve, kidnapping that pink hedgehog back then, and almost got the world destroyed. I kind of get it," The Metal Sonic says.

Uncle Chuck then calmly smiles, "But, I also remember that at the end, you ended up saving Eve's life."

"I guess. When I saw Eve unconscious in the crater, and having Sonic's personality at the time, it kind of helped me make the right decision in the end. I gave Eve and the emerald to Sonic at the end," The Metal Sonic says

"Yeah. In a way, you're still like Sonic. He can be pretty reckless, but still comes through for Eve," Hershey says.

"And you still have your memories and personality in tack," Geoffrey says.

Then Hershey turns to Director Who, "Director, do you have any idea what Elias has been telling you about? He seems pretty secretive about it."

"Indeed. He mentioned a kind of threat that might come to us or at least take necessary precautions," Charles says.

"All will be explained in due time," Director Who says.

Then say, "Once the robot is complete-"

"Still right here!" The Metal Sonic calls out.

"-We'll have- a total of two on the roster counting the time-traveler," Director Who says.

Then turns to Nicole, "Arranged transport for them immediately. I wanted them here yesterday."

"Actually… you just received an answer from Grand Chief Lupe. She - and the agents you asked for - have agreed to your request," Nicole answers.

Confused, Charles says, "Wait… you're recruiting from outside of the city?"

But Director Who continues to think, "The team is still missing something, though. I screened every Freedom Fighter on Mobius for candidates. I liked the prospects… of these two the best, and being unfamiliar to the citizens will give them a degree of unpredictability we'll need to…"

Suddenly, someone falls through the tube and plops out with a thud, catching everyone by surprise.

"Speaking of unpredictability…" Director Who says.

"Larry?" Hershey questions.

Geoffrey chuckles, "I have to agree. If anyone can have unpredictability, it's him."

"I'm sorry I forgot to seal the tunnel," Nicole says, shocked.

The one who has fallen through is Larry the Lynx, known for having the uniqueness of having bad luck, but sometimes ends up becoming good luck.

Larry rubs his head and says, "Just my luck.. Sit on one rotten stump… and fall down… Here?" He soon notices he's in another location, "What in the world…?"

"Larry, is that you?" Hershey asks.

Larry turns to see Geoffrey, Hershey and the others.

"Oh Hello Geoffrey, Hershey, Sir Charles, and Nicole. What's going on? How did I get down here?" Larry questions.

"You alright there?" Geoffrey asks.

"I'm okay, just sit at the wrong spot, at the wrong time, again," Larry says.

"Allow me," Director Who says, and walks to Larry.

He walks towards Larry and asks, "Larry Lynx, correct? Former Field leader of the substitute legion?"

"Uh… y-yes, sir? Nobody seems to remember that, who are…?" Larry replies, confused.

"Mm… Tell me, son, how would you like to make this city safe again? Director Who says, "I believe I could use some of your 'unique' talents."

"R-really?! Y-you mean it?" Larry asks, surprised, "I'd love to! But most folks wouldn't trust me to help."

"Then, Larry, M'boy, it'll be our little secret," Director Who says.

Flashback Ends:

Present day in New Mobotropolis, there is a red alert going on.

The communicator on the control panel activates with Amy's voice, "Amy Rose to Royal Military HQ… Feral Forest to New Mobotropolis-Copy?"

Meanwhile, in the Feral Forest, Sonic and Eve are fighting off the Badniks while Amy is trying to use T-Pup to help communicate to New Mobotropolis, but she is having trouble.

Amy calls out, "Tails! I need a hand down here! I don't think the transmission is sending!"

Tails flies down to Amy, "What's up, Amy?"

"We've got Feral Forest under control for the most part. I want to send a warning to the others that the Death Egg is on the way."

At the same time, Sonic and Eve have already defeated the Egg Swat that's been attacking them, and return to the others.

"Smart thinking," Sonic says.

"You think you boost the signal, Tails?" Eve asks.

"I can try," Tails says, "Eggman might be jamming in-bound transmission, though," Tails says.

"Chao," Jazz pouts, mainly because of Eggman.

"So… how does this work…?" Amy asks.

"I'll work from here. Just talk into T-pup's eyes," Tails says.

He then works on the signal on T-Pup's program and tries to get a better signal.

Amy tries, "Read me? Death… coming!"

Meanwhile, the Death Egg is already over New Mobotropolis, and is ready to attack.

In the cockpit of the Death Egg, Eggman says with an evil grin, "Ahh… I love it when a plan comes together! Sonic and Eve are busy fighting in some backwater village, leaving their precious home town open to attack. Let the cakewalk of an invasion begin!"

The Legionnaires hear the command and are ready to attack.

In the city of New Mobotropolis, the rest of the Freedom Fighters are set for a counter attack.

"Orders, sir? This is a 'family reunion' I would prefer to avoid," Heavy says.

"Stand by for now, Heavy," Rotor says.

Nicole soon appears, "Activating Force Field, now!"

Soon, Nicole uses her nanites and abilities to put the force field up, just before the bottom of the Death Egg rams into it. That causes a halt and disturbance in the Death Egg.

"No. Ohhhhhh No-no-no!" Eggman cries out, "I will not be denied my rightful rematch with this stupid city! What happened to 'Operation Deadly Cuddles'?!"

Orbot types on the computer, "Impact with energy shield confirmed. I do hate parallel parking."

"It was supposed to have infiltrated and taken care of this sort of thing by now!" Eggman says, irritated.

"Apologies, boss, but Tails Doll seems to have been damaged on deployment. Still, it reports it's moving into position… I think," Orbot says.

In New Mobotropolis's Power Plant's Shield generator, the Tails Doll is floating around and is making its way to the generator. Just then, the red antenna floats towards the generator and lights up as it lets out a strange energy. And then, the generator begins to melt, and soon enough, the forcefield begins to break.

Eggman laughs, "Wah-ha-ha! That's more like it! Drop the Egg Pods!"

As the force field dissolves, the Egg Pods drop from the Death Egg and into the city.

Sally calls out, "Alright Freedom Fighters!"

"Let's push them out of the city!" Rotor calls out, with his special bodysuit on.

With that, the Freedom Fighters begin to attack the Egg Pods and the Egg Swat who are beginning to attack the city.

Meanwhile, Elias, Lary, and Leeta arrive on the scene.

"And to think we were worried about how to sneak you into the city," Leeta says.

"Thanks the walkers for small favors," Elias says.

Then asks, "Where's Secret HQ?

"We've set up a Network of Hidden Entrances throughout the city," Leeta says. "Follow Me."

With that, the three head into Knothole Forest, and soon go through a knothole of the tree. They soon slide down the tunnel and soon reach their Secret HQ. They soon walk into the Secret HQ lab, and Director Who is in the room.

Leeta opens the door and says, "Escort complete, Director Who."

"Excellent work! Good to see you made it here in one piece, sir!" Director Who says.

"I left Feral Forest for a Badnik invasion. Tell me you've got good news, Harvey," Elias says.

Then Director Who says, "The best possible news. Your team is assembled." and uses his can to present the team.

He then introduces to each member, "Leeta and Lyco- Twin Agents of The Wolf Pack Nation! Two of the finest young warriors on Mobius." Leeta and Lyco calmly smile.

"Larry Lynx-Ex-Freedom Fighter with a luck-bending aura! His super-jinx can turn any situation against our enemies." Larry salutes.

"Shard-The Original Hyper Metal Sonic, repurposed for our cause. Needless to say, his power bolsters our power ten-fold," Shard is fully built and ready.

"Yo," Shard replies.

"And Silver-our Time-Traveling psychic powerhouse. What shard can't handle, Silver most certainly can."

It's revealed that all of them are wearing body suits, well, except for Sarge.

"Are you crazy?!" Elias questions in shock, "Larry aside, none of these agents have any vested interest in the republic. What gives, Harvey?"

"This doesn't bode well," The Metal Sonic, Shard replies.

Harvey sternly says, "Listen to me: Sonic, Eve, and their Team of Freedom Fighters are away. Princess Sally, Rotor, and the rest are busy with their own assignments. These young heroes came from all over to stop the evil before it spreads. They're willing to leave their normal lives and fight the fight that nobody can or will. The only question left is: Are you?"

Soon, Elias says, "All right, Team. I'm late to the party, and the city is under attack. Give me the crash course. We've got Egg-Swats to fight!"

Meanwhile, the fight in New Mobotropolis continues. The Royal Militar rushes to help the Freedom Fighters out with the attack, as well as dodging the attacks. The Egg Swats fire the attacks as well.

Big punches the Egg Swat, "That's not nice!"

"Thank you, Mister Big!" Cream happily says.

"You're welcome," Big says.

Rotor flies over, "Cream, this is getting to be too much for you."

"I'm sorry for being scared! I still want to help!" Cream says.

"And you can!" Rotor says, "I want you to start guiding citizens to the center of the city where the military is setting up defenses."

"Yes, sir! Right away!" Cream says, "Come on, Cheese! Chocola!"

Cream, Cheese, and Chocola fly off to do just that. Cosmo, Galaxina, and Maria are doing their best to fight off the Egg Swats and destroy the many different attacks.

Maria calls out, "Cha-Chaos Spear!" And then creates energy of spears and throws them at the Chaos Spears at the Egg Swats, destroying them.

"Good work, Maria," Cosmo says.

"Thank you," Maria says.

Rotor turns to the girls, "Maria, can you Cosmo, and Galaxina give Cream a hand."

"Of course," Galaxina says.

"We'll do it right now," Maria says.

And with that, the girls head off to help Cream and the Chaos.

Sonia and Manic are on their Streme Gears while Nic is on her Motorbike and use their blasters to fire at the robots. Sally, Bunnie, and Antoine also use their own abilities to attack the Egg Swats as well.

Heavy questions, "Should we not fall back? Our numbers dwindle while the enemy's do not?"

"I want Eggman to fight every once he gains in my city. Besides, you were with the Chaotix. Where's that take-all-challenger attitude?" Rotor questions.

"My apologies, but… after facing total destruction twice, I fear that-as the expression goes - the third time… may be the charm," Heavy says.

He then picks up Bomb and throws him.

"Not on my watch," Rotor says, and fires his blasters from his wrists, "I've got your back."

"Illogically, that platitude is reassuring," Heavy says, and stomps on the Egg Swat, "Once more into the fray, then!"

Meanwhile, Cream, the girls, and Chaos are evacuating the citizens.

"This way, everyone! Please follow me!" Cream calls out.

"Chao Chao!" Cheese calls out.

Cream points out, "Right in there please!"

"Hurry!" Cosmo calls out.

Back to the fight, the Badniks are not making this easy for them.

Heavy contacts, "Rotor, any advisement. We're being surrounded."

Bomb presses the button to detonate himself.

"That's what they think!" Rotor says, and fires at the Egg Swats.

Sally turns to Big, "Big, can you give us a hand."

"Okay," Big answers, and begins plowing the Egg Swats coming their way.

Back in the Death Egg…

"Progress report!" Eggman shouts.

"Well, none, boss," Orobt answers, "The Freedom Fighters is keeping the invasion forces at the edge of the city," Orbot says.

"That's ridiculous!" Eggman shouts.

Then Cubot says, "This ain't much of a cakewalk, doc. 'Course, maybe you meant like one o' them hard inedible fruit cakes? This'd be more like that, I reckon."

Gritting his teeth in anger, Eggman types on the keyboard, "I had hoped to save these for a most appropriate occasion, but if they want to do this the hard way-! Launching Team Metal!"

And with that, Metal Sonic, having been rebuilt again, appears with Metal Eve, and two Metal Versions of Tails and Amy. Down below, Sally and the others notice it.

"New enemy contacts inbound!" Heavy says as he points into the sky.

"Ping!" Bomb says, doing the same.

"Oh, boy… those are from the Metal Series…" Rotor says.

"And it looks like Eggman has made new ones," Sally says.

Rotor contacts the others, "Rotor to Team - focus on the Metal Series! They're the biggest threat!"

"Affirmative," Heavy salutes, "But what of the Egg Swats?"

"We held them off as long as we could… it's up to the military now," Rotor says.

Meanwhile, the Military is trying to hold the Egg Swatt off as much as they can.

"Fire at will! Don't let them get any closer!" One of the soldiers calls out, as he and the others continue firing.

Suddenly, something swoops over the Egg Swats and has destroyed every one of them.

Confused, one says, "Uh… nice shot."

"Thanks?" The other says, just as confused.

Meanwhile, in the air, Rotor is dealing with Metal Sonic.

"Augh! Two are headed your way, team!" Rotor calls out.

Rotor then punches the Metal Tails, "I've got this one up here!"

Soon, Bunnie tackles Metal Sonic in the name, "And I got this one."

Meanwhile, Leeta and Lyco are secretly fighting off the Egg Swats. In another area of the city, Larry is secretly hiding behind the bushes while the other two Swat Eggs are searching around.

Larry says to himself in thought, "C'mon… blow a fuse, trip, random battery failure, something…" and soon one of the Egg Swat misfires at one of their own.

Larry secretly cheers, "Woo! Misfire!"

Bunnie is still fighting against Metal Sonic.

Big also grabs Metal Amy, "I stopped one!"

Just then, the Metal Amy turns her robotic hands into robotic hammers. And then swings the hammer at Big in the face.

"That hurts! You're mean!" Big says, before punching the robot back.

Back to where Larry is, his jinx also does good.

"And then a jam gun! Yes! Two for the super-jinx!" Larry happily says.

Back in town, Heavy says, "Prepare to engage Metal Sonic. Just like old times. "And prepare to throw Bomb.

Bomb Pings in reply as Metal Sonic flies down to attack them.

Suddenly, something swoops in and attacks Metal Sonic.

"Something intercepted our target. My sensors could not register it fast enough. What was that?" Heavy says, confused.

"Ping Ping," Bomb replies.

"Watch your language while we're on the job," Heavy sternly says.

Meanwhile, the one who has attacked Metal Sonic is Shard.

"Hey there, Junior. Lemme show you what a REAL Metal Sonic can do!" Shard says.

He then makes a blaster appear from his hand and fires at Metal Sonic. Soon, Metal Sonic is totaled, while Shard holds its head.

He smirks and says, "Yeah. Accept no imitations."

At another part of the city, Silver uses his powers to get a hold on Metal Amy allowing Big to punch his fist right through her chest.

Meanwhile, Rotor has been knocked down by Metal Tails. Metal Tails is about to attack Rotor, but an arrow pierces through its back. That gives Rotor time to regain himself and blast the robot into pieces. Turns out, the arrow that distracts Metal Tails is from Elias, in his Secret Freedom Fighter outfit, and holding a crossbow.

Back in the Death Egg, Eggman is seeing the situation, and he's not happy to hear the results.

"Team Metal is offline, boss," Orbot says.

And Cubot says, "Er.. Mecha Sally just reported in. Says there's a total mission failure. She's comin' on home now."

"Impossible!" Eggman shouts in anger in disbelief.

"You can read my screen if you want-" Orbot says.

But Eggman shouts in anger, "Shut up!" And angrily says to himself, "If the Death Egg Hadn't been so damaged and drained, I could've taken the city with that first attack! I should have had this! Sonic and Eve weren't even here! I should be WINNING!"

Then Orbot says, "Also, given our efforts to repair and refuel at the Shazamazon base were interrupted, we'll have just enough supplies to make it to the next base in-"

"Enough! I get the idea!" Eggman shouts. "Signal the retreat. Call back what Egg pod we can, and get us out of here!"

He evilly says, "Congratulations, Freedom Fighters. You've earned my attention and my hate. More than you have. You'll be dealt with… GRRR late. For now - I've got to throw the other Fighters off my tail…!"

Back in the city, the Freedom Fighters see that the Egg Pods are being called and the Death Egg is leaving.

"The Death Egg and Egg Swats are leavin! We won! Hooray!"

"We did it!" Sally happily says.

"Way to go, Team!" Rotor says.

The Freedom Fighters happily cheer for their victory.

Sally thinks a bit as she says, "It's weird though. It seems like someone else was helping to take out the ground forces."

"You're right. Question is, by who…?" Rotor replies.

Then Big says, "Don't worry. Be happy."

"… Yeah, guess that works, too," Rotor says.

"Maybe, but I do like to thank whoever was able to turn this around for us," Sally says.

"Still, I have to wonder why the force field breaks all of the sudden," Sally says, and with growing concern.

"Sally!" Someone calls out.

Running towards them are Manic and Sonia.

"What is it guys?" Rotor asks.

"We got word from Nicole that the generator for the force field has been destroyed," Sonia says.

"More like melted," Manic says.

"Melted?" Sally questions.

"That explains why the force field has been deactivated," Rotor says.

"Nicole and our dad are already working on fixing it and we're going to help out. And we're gong to find out the cause of it," Manic says.

"Alright. We'll let you get to it," Sally says.

"Thanks," The two hedgehogs say and hurry off.

In the Secret HQ.

Elias shakes Harvey's hand, "It looks like I owe you an apology, Harvey…" Then turns to the team, "And to the rest of you, I was wrong. You have the makings of a great team, and I'm proud to be among you."

"And we appreciate it," Larry says.

Harvey says, "And I'm glad that we have the Secret Freedom Fighter. And we will need to work on your first assignment."
