EPOV
"Eric must be breathing a sigh of relief for a few days since you're away. It's like… Freedom!" I teased Jane over the dinner. Eric, her boyfriend, was a pretty cool guy.
We had a great day with all the meetings, so I was really in a good mood today.
She showed me the tongue, "He's sent me hundred texts about much he's missing me."
"Oh, I didn't really know he was good at lying," I joked.
She punched me jokingly on my shoulder.
"We love sexting! Not just that… He's already waiting for me… For the, you know, kind of a sexy video call session!"
"I didn't ask for the details!" I said as I shook my head.
"Well, you can do the same," she winked, "It's really not a bad idea. Bella would appreciate that."
I smiled.
Well, I couldn't really blame her. She didn't know the truth about my marriage. Well, almost nobody, except Jasper, really knew why I had got married. They all had questions about why I'd get married suddenly, and that, too, to Emmett's widow. But well, I didn't think I owed any clarification or explanation to anyone.
I was getting bored after reaching back at my room, and I thought, maybe I could text Bella about how she was doing.
Well, not sexting, but I could at least do the texting! And I hadn't really talked to her since I left anyway.
"Hey... What's up?" I sent her the text.
And in response, she sent me a photo of a golden retriever!
What?
I decided to video call her. I mean, it might be better to talk over a call instead of texting.
"Hey... How was your day?" she asked.
"It was good," I said, "Are you with a dog right now?"
"Yeah! Meet Murphy, Rosalie's dog," she said as she flipped the camera to show Murphy, "Rosalie is going on a short trip with her family, and she asked if I could watch her dog for four days, and I was like... why not?"
"Oh, that's great! He seems really cute!" I said.
"Murphy, do you want to meet Edward?" she said in a cute tone, which made me chuckle.
And I noticed she was at her grandmother's house.
Why?
"Oh, you're not at home?" I asked.
"Ummm... Your house is not dog friendly, and I wasn't sure how you'd have liked it if I got a dog for a few days without informing you."
I shook my head. We were one hell of a married couple!
"Naah... I love dogs. I wouldn't have minded it anyway." I said, "In fact, we used to have a golden retriever when I was young."
"Oh right, Emmett told me about it." she said.
"Yeah... He was devastated when he passed away. He cried like a baby," I smiled.
It was strange to see I could now smile talking about him. Maybe I was slowly learning to let him go.
"I was devastated, too, but I had this cool, big bro image to maintain, so I cried in the bathroom." I laughed.
"Aww... You could have cried in front of everyone. Sometimes it's okay to show your actual emotions in front of someone." she said.
I smiled.
"I doubt if I can ever do it. Plus, it wouldn't have been cool anyway." I chuckled.
"I don't know... I mean, I know what you're trying to say. I struggle with showing my emotions, too. But, I don't look cool when I do that. I just look... awkward," she laughed.
"I used to be like that when I was very young. But then I realized if you change your persona and become rude, well, everyone focuses on that. Nobody gives a damn about what you're actually thinking or what's actually going through your mind."
"So that's why you decided to start fooling around, and start insulting everyone around," she smiled.
"Yeah I guess so," I chuckled, "But I'm really sorry if you ever felt I was insulting you. That was never really my intention."
"No, 'insult' wasn't really the right word. You were just pissing everyone off I guess," she laughed.
"Maybe." I smiled.
And that's when I noticed something.
I was pretty sure I had seen her laughing before, but did she always look such beautiful while doing so?
And look at her eyes! They were so pretty! Were they always like this? Or was I paying attention only because I was staring at her on this phone screen?
Wait!
What the heck was I thinking about?
What was fucking wrong with me!
Had I lost my fucking mind?
