When Tsuyu Asui reached Recovery Girl's office, she raised her fist to knock on the door. "Tsu, get out of here!" Tokoyami said. The memory froze her in her spot. They way he said her first name. How come it was different from everyone else? Was it the fear in his voice? What is because it was his voice? She shook the thoughts out of her head and knocked on the door. "Come in!" Recovery Girl said.
Tsu walked into the clean nurse's office as the older lady swiveled in her chair towards her. "Oh my dear, I saw what happened," she said. She hopped off her chair and held her hand out. "Let's get you checked out." Recovery Girl led the damaged hero student to one of the beds and motioned her to sit down. Tsu just watched her as she took her temperature. "Normal, that's good," she said.
When she took the thermometer out of Tsu's mouth, Tsu asked, "How did you know I was coming?"
"All the teachers can watch the exercises on our computers. When I saw that last blow from Ms. Hado, I knew you would be coming." Tsu grimaced as she remembered the pain from Hado's quirk. She made a mental note to never mess with her again. The old nurse placed her stethoscope against Tsu's chest."I'm just surprised that Tokoyami is not here as well. He took some nasty hits." The old lady noticed Tsu's heartbeat increased as she mentioned her test partner's name. She quirked an eyebrow as she placed the stethoscope behind her back. "By the way, is that Tokoyami's cloak you are wearing?"
Tsu looked at her with a gaze in her eyes. "What? Oh…" she looked down before ripping it off of her. "Oh! Yes, this is his. He gave it to me after we lost the match."
Recovery Girl gave the young hero a knowing gleam as she wrapped Tsu's arm to check her blood pressure. "That was awfully kind of him."
"He's always kind," Tsu said as the machine tightened around her arm.
After a few more tests and a big kiss on the cheek by the healing quirk user, Tsu was given a clear bill of health. As the nurse was cleaning up, Tsu held her hand out. "Are you sure? I'm still feeling weird," Tsu said.
The older lady cocked her head to the side like a labrador retriever. "Oh? What are your symptoms?" she asked.
"Well I've been feeling really strange. My face has been warming up a lot recently. I've also been experiencing rapid heartbeat, and my stomach feels like it has a million butterflies in it."
"Do you only experience these symptoms around Tokoyami?"
Tsu quickly turned her attention to the cloak lying on her lap as she felt the familiar warmth return to her cheeks. "Yes," she whispered.
The old nurse chuckled. "Oh my dear, it sounds like you have a crush on the boy."
She glanced back up. "Ribbit! Oh please, Recovery Girl, make it something else. Anything else!"
"Why?"
"I don't have crushes! I'm not like…"
She was interrupted by a knock on the door, making her jump slightly. She fearfully stared at the door as her eyes began to water. "Tsu, it's me. Can I come in?" Uraraka asked. A sigh of relief escaped her mouth.
Recovery Girl hopped out of her seat and allowed the zero gravity hero into the station. "I'm going to step out for a few minutes. I believe she needs a friend more than an old lady right now," she whispered. She smiled at Tsu. "You're free to go whenever." She slid the door behind her as she left.
As soon as the door was shut, tears began to stream down Asui's face. Alarmed, Uraraka sat next to her. "Tsu, what's the matter?" she asked, wrapping an arm around her.
"Ochako, I feel so horrible. I let my feelings get in the way of the match. It's because of me I made Tokoyami fail," Tsu sobbed.
"Feelings?" Uraraka glanced down at black piece of fabric laying across Tsu's lap. Wait, is that? Her mind flashed throughout the day at how flustered Tsu acted in the locker room right and then in the arena before the match. She gasped. "Tsu, do you…like Tokoyami?"
Asui buried her face in her hands. "I think I do. Ashido was right. He has gotten taller and stronger. You should have felt what it was like in his arms after the match." An embarrassed croak escaped her throat as she jumped off the bed, letting the cloak fall to the ground. "What's happening to me?"
"You have a crush, Tsu. You shouldn't be embarrassed by that."
"But I let that get in the way of training!" Tsu began to pace the entire room. "When he offered to fly me up the skyscraper, all I could think of was his arms and being so close to him and I…I…I just couldn't do it! Then my body just acted when I saw him hurt. All of these hormonal decisions made us lose!" Tsu froze in her spot. "What does he think of me now?"
Uraraka slid off the bed and picked up the fallen cloak. She stared at it for a moment before walking up to her friend. "I know he's worried about you," she said. Tsu looked at Ochako, shocked. "I could see it in his eyes before I came here." She placed the cloak in Tsu's arms. "He's an understanding guy. I know he doesn't think less of you now. Just tell him you were having an off day, and you can make it up to him somehow."
"I shouldn't tell him how I feel?"
Uraraka stumbled back with her eyebrows raised to her hairline. "You want to confess to him!?"
Asui shrugged her shoulders. "I feel like I owe him an explanation on how I acted in the arena. Plus what if," Tsu held the cloak close to her, "What if he likes me back?" I think you're perfect just the way you are, Asui. "I know it's a longshot, but I feel like I need to take that chance."
Uraraka ran up and brought her into a hug. "Oh Tsu, I'm so happy for you! And you are so brave."
Returning the hug, Tsu grinned. "Maybe it will inspire you to do the same." She giggled as her best friend jumped away.
Blushing tomato red, Uraraka folded her arms and turned her nose to the air. "I don't know what you are talking about." Asui's giggles turned into full blown laughter. Uraraka couldn't help but laugh along with her. "How are you feeling now?"
"Better but I still need to apologize," Tsu replied.
"And confess?"
"Not today, but I think I have a plan." Tsu grabbed her friend's hand and led her out the door. "Come on, your test is probably coming up soon."
"Oh shoot, I forgot! We need to hurry," Uraraka said. As the girls ran down the hall back to the testing zone, Recovery Girl walked back into her office, smiling.
Good luck, Froppy.
When they returned to the testing area, Tsu scanned the area until she found Tokoyami chatting with Shoji and Koda on the other side of the room. She gripped the cloak tighter and could feel the butterflies returning to her stomach. It felt like the room around her was closing into her until she felt a hand on her shoulder. She looked up to see Uraraka smiling at her. "You got this, Tsu. I'll be cheering you on," she said.
Asui returned her smile. "Thanks Ochako and good luck on your match," she replied.
She nodded with determination as she ran back to Shinsou's side. Tsu took a deep breath and began to walk towards Tokoyami. Before she could make it to him, Dark Shadow leapt from Tokoyami's back straight to her. "ASUIIIII," he wailed. The quirk looked at her all over. "Are you okay? Fumikage and I were so worried."
Tsu chuckled and patted the top of his head. "I feel much better Dark Shadow. I promise," she said.
"Dark Shadow!" Tokoyami exclaimed as he ran to them. "You know better than to fly off like that!"
"But Fumi it's for Asui. She's important," he retorted. Her heartbeat picked up its pace once again as she saw a blush form on Tokoyami's cheeks.
"Return at once, Dark Shadow." The quirk huffed but did what he was told. "I apologize for him ambushing you like that."
"No, no it's okay, really," she said. A silent pause fell between them as both tried to figure out what they wanted to say.
"How are you?" Tokoyami started.
"Can we talk?" Asui said at the same time.
The pair shared an embarrassed smile. "You go first," Tokoyami said.
"May we talk in private? There are some things I need to say," Asui said.
"Of course!" he replied.
Both of them walked to the side of the testing area where no one was around. Neither said a word to the other. "Don't screw this up!" Dark Shadow said in Tokoyami's head.
"I know," he replied.
Once they were alone, Asui bowed to him at a 90 degree angle. "I'm so sorry Tokoyami. I hope you can forgive me for failing us," she said.
The boy gawked at the girl bowing before him. He pressed his hands together and said, "Please Asui, there's no need to apologize. I contributed to our failure as well."
She stood up straight and looked him in the eyes. "No! It was my poor decision making that led us to our downfall." Tokoyami opened his mouth to retort, but she cut him off. "That's why I want to make it up to you!"
"Asui, you do not need to," he said as she held a hand up.
"Please, this will make me feel better. Also…." she paused and stared at the ground. "Plus it will allow me to explain some of my decisions during the test." she whispered.
Tokoyami smiled at the girl and nodded. "Okay, even though you really do not have to make up for anything, I accept."
She whipped her head back up and had a gleam in her eye. "Thank you Tokoyami, so are you free this Saturday?"
"I just have duty with Hawks at night."
"Perfect! Have you heard of Market Under the Sun? It's a farmer's market. We could go in the morning, if you want. They have the best apples around.``
She remembered my favorite food? "That sounds delightful."
Dark Shadow popped out of Tokoyami's back again. "Ooo, we could have a picnic!" he suggested before snapping back into Tokoyami.
Tsu's smile grew bigger. "That's a wonderful idea. Only if you agree of course, Tokoyami," she said.
"I have never been on a picnic before, so this will be the perfect opportunity," he replied.
She clapped her hands together. "Then it's settled. How about you meet me in the lobby Saturday at 10:30 in the morning? I'll work it out with Mr. Aizawa."
"Perfect." She held out his cloak to him. "Thank you for allowing me to borrow this by the way. It kept me warm, ribbit." Tokoyami smiled as he reached out for it. They lightly brushed each other's hand as he grabbed it. A jolt ran through both of them. Tsu laughed awkwardly and took a step back. "By the way, how are you feeling? You were roughed up a bit as well out there."
"Oh just a few scratches, nothing I cannot handle," he said as he rubbed the back of his head.
"Still you should go see Recovery Girl just in case. Even she said you should go to her."
"I will go see her right now then."
"Good, well I'll see you later, Tokoyami. Until Saturday," she said as she hopped towards the rest of the students.
Tokoyami watched her leave for a few moments before placing his cloak around him again. It's warm. It's warm from her. He couldn't stop the giddy smile that formed on his face.
"It's just as warm as when you held her nice and close in the arena," Dark Shadow said in his head.
"Silence, Dark Shadow. Get those impure thoughts out of your head," Tokoyami replied.
"Oh come on! Besides, you have the right to be happy. You just scored a date with Tsuyu Asui!"
"It's not a date. You saw how she acted in the arena. She's only doing this cause she feels like she has to, not because she wants to."
"I don't know, she wouldn't have agreed to the picnic then. That's a lot of time just the two of you. Alone. With no supervision."
"I have you don't I?"
"Oh ho ho, I'm not supervision. I'm your wingman. I'll be in your head the whole time telling you your next move."
"You will do no such thing."
The quirked laugh at Tokoyami's embarrassment as he made his way to Recovery's Girl office. He took one last look at Asui who was now laughing with Yaoyorozu and Jiro. Just me and Asui. Well, I'll use that time to make her trust me again.
