Chapter 15
That night I slept so well that when I woke I did not realize that I was not at my home. I got up thinking man is Mr. Beast going to tan my hide with me showing up late. Then I remembered that I was at the palace and not at my house. I then noticed that breakfast was made and it was fresh fruit with toast and jam, honey, and butter, as well as some hot cakes and maple syrup, with hot chocolate. I use to eat that for breakfast every morning in the city, I wish I knew how they knew that. I eat and then try to find my way to the stable to see Twilight Queen and Storm Cloud. I do not know how but I did manage to find my way and even saw B. on my way down.
After telling her good morning, she had asked me what I was going to do today. I told her I was going to ride my horses around and get back to training Storm Cloud on the fancy steeps that Twilight Queen knows. She said she would watch but from the palace windows since horses where scared of her. Since they are scared of her, I told her that Twilight Queen might not be if she would slowly let the horse get use to her. She said that she might try that but let the horse get use to the palace first. That was a good ideal and that is what I am going to do.
When I got to the stable I saddled Twilight Queen and took her out to run and see what was to see and fields that she could graze in. We went back to the stable and I put her away, tended to her, and got Storm Cloud ready and took him out for a ride as well then I noticed that the fields were not the same as before and I thought I was going to the same fields as before. I do not know if I was wrong or not but I think the fields changed while I was getting Storm Cloud well when I got back it was noon and I went in to eat. I ate in the great dining hall and thought that this place is lonely place. And B. has been here for over 40 years and I am the only one here that she can talk to that is not invisible. So we are each other's only option for company so we will have plenty of time to get to know each other. I finished eating and decided to try to find a piano that is not in my room. I finally found one in the library and started to play the song that I have been working on but just cannot seem to get right. I worked hard trying to get the notes right that I did not notice B. come in and watch me.
When I got mad and just gave up did I notice her in the room. "Why did you stop that was very good," she asked. "I was good but not going the way I wanted it to go. See I have had that tune in my head for so long but I just cannot finish it for some unknown reason," I tell her. "It is not finished! Well I thought it was done. So tell me do you have many songs or just that one," she asked. "I have more I just have not played them in a while. I do not have much time to play at home. I mostly work when I am home. So I am glad that here I can play as much as I want if you do not mind that is. I might work on something in the fields like a pin for Twilight Queen and Storm Cloud to graze in during the day, if you do mind as well. I know you said last night that I am the lord of the palace but it is still your home so I have no say in what happens here, I will not change anything if you do not approve first," I tell her.
"You are a strange man for you still will not do what you wish to do without letting me know first. Most men would not ask a female if she minded what they were planning to do with land," she tells me. "My Father all ways said treat a lady with respect no matter if she is your mother, sister, aunt, wife or just a girl on the street, for you never know who she will marry or who she is married to. See he had met one lady that was just as sweet as she could be and was friends with her that is until he married my mother. That lady was so sweet up to the point he married, she then went from nice to mean. She had wanted him to marry her but he had been in love with my mother. She then ended up marring one of the men that did not like my Father for marring my Mother see many men wanted her to be their wife. So both my Mother and Father had many people angry with them that they got married, that many still do not like my family in the city. One of many reasons I was glade to move to Blue Lake five years ago," I tell her.
She is quite then "So because of your father you have a respect for women that you do and do not know just because of the fact she could marry someone you know or you may marry her. That is a good thing in a man; I can see why you have two fine horses and a nice house. Yes, I have seen the house; I will not say how I have seen it. For that is for me to know and for you to maybe find out latter," she said. "Has anyone ever told you seem to like speaking in cryptic riddles? Because you do," I tell her.
"Yes, in fact I get that very often even now when everyone I talk to is invisible. Well most of them anyway since you are not invisible, I do not know why you pointed it out so soon, most wait till they have known me for a few days," she tells me. "Well I tend to point things out very fast like the fact that you like blue," I let her know. "How would you know if I like blue?" she asks. "Well you wore a blue dress yesterday and today you are wearing a different blue dress so I believe you like blue. Am I right or wrong," I ask. "You are right I do like blue. You tend to noticed that very quickly as you have only known me for a day," she says, she looks like she is thinking about something. "I do not know if I should be glad you can notice things fast or not. I do know a lot about you. You are the only son your father had from his first wife he has recently remarried. Your three sisters have married and one of your stepsisters might marry soon as well to young Billy. You have a big house but you still want room for your whole family to come visit. You write songs for your family and no one else, and I have to say you are very good at that for I have heard them and would like to hear them played here if you do not mind. Girls flirt with you and you tend to run and hide until you sisters or stepsisters tell you the coast is clear then you come out. I do not get why you hide from them, some of them were nice girls. That is about all I have learned about you from watching your family the past five years," she says.
I have to say she knows a lot more about me than I know about her. I wish I knew how she knows so much about me. I wonder if she has some magic ability that I do not know about. "So you knew what had happened but you still scared my Father and brother-in-law. You do realize that they did not wish to let me come. And the reason why I hide was I did not wish to have them flirt with me just for my looks or for what I had. They wanted me for my house and horse or just because I was well I guess good looking or something at least decent looking, not for who I am so I ran and hide from them," I tell her.
