Concluding thoughts
After meeting Justin and Dean while shopping for Dudley's golf cart, Harry's summer took a turn for the better as he developed friendships outside the Golden Trio, meeting Hermione on the express. The mix up with Malfoy, Crabbe and Goyle happened similarly to last time, except Harry and company dealt with them with words, not fists. Justin and Dean were sorted into Hufflepuff. Hermione was nearly killed by the troll despite Harry giving her the quill portkey (which was stolen several hours before the troll incident). Snape sees Harry using sectumsempra on the troll's leg and drags him to his office, demanding an explanation. Harry fills Snape in on his seventh and last chance. Snape and Harry free the basilisk of her loyalty to Riddle at the end of the first year, binding her as a familiar to Snape.
Second year was bloodier than last time, with a Riddle-possessed Ginny arranging three dead Gryffindors and a Slytherin as if they dueled one another rather than killed by a basilisk. (The heir planted and raised a second basilisk after the first was removed to a nearby location outside the school). Tensions rise. A few aurors were called in, but fail to solve the problem. Harry, Snape, and Dumbledore manage to deal with the first horcrux and basilisk in December. (Harry stunned Hermione before the confrontation to protect her and avoid her parents' wrath). She remains distant from him throughout the year. Harry bonds with Dobby on a voluntary basis after freeing him, offering him wages and a better life.
Harry manages to avoid the inflating incident with Marge after working on his temper despite the horcrux. Uncle Vernon reluctantly signs his form. However, the professors confine him to school for his safety, as Black escaped again. Lupin catches Harry with the map sneaking out to the forest as he tries to feed Padfoot, giving him the lecture of his life and multiple detentions. Hermione finds out the truth of Harry's chance and eventually reconciles. Harry, Justin, Dean, Hermione, and several others witness Pettigrew. Lupin doesn't leave the shack. The group manages to avoid the dementors through a combination of emotional control, heavy occlumency, and brooms. Sirius is freed.
For fourth year, Ron is becoming increasingly aggressive towards Harry, whose patience is wearing thin. Harry pays Bagman's debts to prevent the goblins from refusing to fight against the Dark Lord and participates in a summer internship with the new department of games and sports. Unfortunately, the new head is killed during the World Cup Death Eater riots and replaced by Umbridge, who is also in charge of the tournament. Harry is entered into the tournament and is expelled from Gryffindor house for 'unchivalrous and dishonest conduct' by majority consensus. Hermione chooses to follow him out of loyalty. After swearing magically his innocence in the goblet incident, they gradually become prominent and popular members of Hufflepuff house. Instead of the Yule ball, each house and the guests participate in a dueling tournament for one level for each year, with advanced students participating in a duel. Angry at Hermione's growing affection for Harry, Ron manages to defeat her with an overpowered tripping jinx, putting her into a months-long coma when her head hits the floor. Because of this, Ginny (who is not interested in Harry and is a friend in this story) is placed as Harry's hostage for the second task. Despite multiple precautions (including full body featherlight plexiglass domes for each hostage), Ginny comes close to drowning when a spear breaches the dome, although Harry manages to propel both to the surface before this happens. Cedric doesn't die.
Voldemort rises. Harry et al. make sure the ministry hears Crouch's testimony. Fudge agrees under pressure to publicly deny Voldemort's return, while preparing for war behind the scenes. Voldemort attacks the Tower of London on October 31, 1995, killing eighty-seven tourists, and leaving hundreds injured. Similar incidents occurred throughout England, from random attacks on all Muggle institutions, to a fiendfyre blaze on Privet Drive, killing the Dursleys. The Dark Lord demands the Ministry and Dumbledore turn over Potter. They refuse. A stronger version of the D.A. and others clash over the prophecy in early January 1996. Both sides lose several members. Harry intercepts a killing curse meant for Hermione, eliminating the last horcrux at this point. Voldemort tries to possess Harry, fails, and his return is officially exposed. War continues for several years. Hermione and Harry marry in 1999, and defeat Voldemort on July 31, 1999. She gives birth to Rose Lily Potter on April 3, 2001 and had several other children. Her life with Harry was accomplished and full.
Others may write a sequel to Don't fear the reaper, she serves bread and water based on this overview or similar, provided credit is given. Good luck.
