Chapter Five
Teach Me
Takes place between season two and season three.
Wednesday March, 20th, 1985
It was spring break in Hawkins, Indiana and Mike has a really fun day that he planned with El. Today, he's planning on taking her to Palace Arcade with his friends. This would be her first time going to the arcade, and hopefully that she'll enjoy it. He rode his bike to the cabin with Dustin, Will and Lucas while Max kept up on her skateboard.
El had been cooped up in the cabin watching a rerun of M.A.S.H. on television while she waited for Mike. She got up from off of the chair and walked over to the door as she stepped out of the house to see if Mike and the others are coming. She couldn't wait to see Mike. It felt like an eternity that they've haven't seen each other. She looked over to her direction as she sees Mike .
"Mike!" El called out as she waved to him.
"El!" Mike waved back at El as he rode his bike over towards her.
Mike stopped peddling and chucked his bike to the side as he ran over towards El. El did the same as he ran off of the porch and jumped in his arms.
"I missed you." El said.
"I missed you too, El. It felt like an eternity." Mike said before he gave El a kiss on her lips.
There was the sound of someone clearing their throat from behind the couple as the two broke apart and noticed Dustin, Will, Lucas and Max standing right behind them before Dustin and Lucas started singing.
"Mike and El sitting in a tree. K-I-S-S-I-N-G! First comes love. Then comes marriage. Then comes baby in a baby carriage!" Dustin and Lucas both sang.
"Alright, knock it off, you two." Mike said as El blushed a bit.
"Come on, stop teasing Mike and El. I think it's pretty cute that they've missed each other." Max said.
"Really? You would want to go for cute?" Lucas asked.
"Maybe." Max said.
"So, what have you been doing all day?" Mike asked El.
"I've been watching the adventures of Hawkeye and B.J. in the Korean War." El said.
"Oh, you mean M.A.S.H.?" Mike asked.
"Yeah. They were showing two episodes of it. After that, they're showing Cheers." El said as Mike chuckled.
"We really got to get you outside." Mike said.
"So, what do you guys want to do?" Max asked.
"We could play tag." Will said.
"Nah, we've already played that too many times." Lucas said.
"We could climb trees." Dustin said.
"Uh, after what happened to you, I don't think so." Mike said.
"Maybe we could go to the arcade? We haven't done that in a while. Plus, I've been dying to rack up some high scores." Max said.
"Sounds like a great idea." Lucas said.
"I like it." Will said.
"I would love to get another crack at Dragon's Lair." Dustin said.
El started to look confused at The Party when they started to talk about the arcade.
"Arcade? What's the arcade?" El asked.
"The arcade is where you play video games. I'm pretty sure that Hopper showed you how to play video games, haven't he?" Mike asked as El stayed silently and shook her head. "He hasn't?"
"No." El said.
"Jeez, what kind of life are you living if Hopper isn't going to teach you how to play video games?" Mike asked.
"I want to go to the arcade with you." El said as the party looked at her in surprise. "What?"
"El, I don't think that's such a good idea." Mike said.
"Why?" El asked.
"Because Hopper would get pissed off if he finds out that you've been out of the cabin." Mike said.
"I'm sure he'll understand that I want to be more social." El said.
"Why do I get the feeling we're gonna regret this?" Dustin asked.
"I just don't want to get you in trouble." Mike said.
"But Mike…" El said.
"Come on, Mike. I'm pretty sure that El wants to check out the arcade. Plus, I don't want to be the only girl in the party, so I might need another girl to talk to instead of a bunch of boys." Max said.
"But what if the bad people see her?" Mike asked.
"There's nothing to worry about. Nobody is going to see her. Besides, rules are meant to be broken." Max said.
Mike frowned and sighed a bit. "I can't believe that I'm gonna agree to this. Okay, fine. She can come with us to the arcade."
"Thanks, Mike." El grinned, hugging him.
"Relax, it'll be fine. She's gonna have some fun with us." Max said.
"Let's get to the arcade!" Lucas exclaimed as he mounts his bike while Dustin and Will do the same while Max hops on her skateboard. El began to look at the modes of transport that her friends have.
"I-I don't have a bike." El said.
"Oh. Do you wanna get on the back of my bike?" Mike asked as El began to smile at him.
"Yes." El said as she hopped on the back of the bike with Mike sitting in front of her as she wraps her arms around his stomach.
"Now hold on tight." Mike said as El's body was tucked up to his.
The ride to Palace Arcade was perfect. The weather wasn't too hot, it wasn't too cold, it was just right. Mike was smiling at the thought of this beautiful angel lying her head on his back during the ride and her hands on his stomach gave him butterflies. He was ignoring the thought of Hopper killing him if he found out that they took El out of the cabin, but hey, it was worth it for her to finally being out of the cabin to enjoy some fresh air.
"Enjoying the ride?" Mike asked.
"Yeah." El said.
After that pleasant ride, the party finally reached Palace Arcade as they all started to dismount their bikes by the door.
"Here we are." Mike said, helping El dismount.
"Is this is?" El asked.
"Yep. This is the place." Mike said.
"You're gonna love it, trust us." Lucas said as he entered the arcade with Max, Dustin and Will.
Mike and El soon followed their friends inside the arcade and once El stepped foot inside the building, she was amazed at the vast array of arcade games was there. From Pac-Man to the Star Wars arcade game, she couldn't wait to play them all.
"You like what you see?" Mike asked.
"Yeah." El said. "It looks wonderful."
El walked away from Mike as she starts to look at some of the games that the kids were playing. She walked over to where Dustin was standing as she him playing Space Ace, and seeing him fail miserably at some of the quicktime events.
"Oh, wow. I've been hit." Ace said after he gets shot by a laser beam and turns into a boy.
"Oh, son of a bitch! This one's more difficult than Dragon's Lair." Dustin said as El laughs a bit.
Dustin turned around after he heard El laughing.
"Well, what do you think?" Dustin asked.
"I love it, so far." El said.
"Awesome."
"Let's get you started with some quarters." Mike said as him and the party handed El some quarters.
"What do I do with them?" El asked.
"You put the quarter in and you start playing the game. Do you know which game to play yet?" Mike asked.
"No, not yet." El said as she looked around until she turned her attention toward the Dig-Dug arcade machine. "How about this one?"
"Dig-Dug?" Mike asked.
"Yeah." El said.
Mike and El both walked over to the arcade machine as Mike gets ready to put the quarter in.
"How do you play it?" El asked.
"Well, you simply just put the quarter in and you start playing." Mike said.
"Can you teach me?" El asked.
"Hmm?" Mike asked.
"Can you teach me how to play Dig-Dug?" El asked.
"Sure. Sure, I can teach you how to play. Alright, these are your control, okay? You have your joystick to move up, down, left and right and you have this button to fire the pump. You press the button to stun the monsters or you can hold it down just to blow them up. Or you can drop a rock on them by digging out from under the rocks to make them fall. You're playing as Dig Dug. He's the good guy. The bad guys are Pooka and Fygar. Pooka is the goofy red ball with goggles and Fygar is the green dragon. You understand?" Mike asked.
"Yes." El said.
"Alright. First off, watch what I do." Mike said.
El watched as Mike inserted a quarter inside the machine as the game starts. Mike began to move Dig Dug around with the joystick by moving Dig Dug up and to the left, then pushed the button down to blow up Pooka with the pump. He continued to play through round one by dropping a rock on another Pooka and Fygar at the same time, leaving the only Pooka left for him to blow up, finishing up round one.
"There we go. Round one finished. Now, we're on round two." Mike said. "Want to try it out?"
"Yeah." El said.
Mike moved out of the way for El as she put her hand on the joystick and starts to move Dig Dug around and blowing up the first Pooka that she sees before going for the next Pooka and the third Pooka that was coming right towards her. With two of the Fygars left, El goes after the first Fygar to blow it up right before the second Fygar makes a run for it towards the surface.
"Quick, after that Fygar." Mike said as El chases after the Fygar and manages to blow it up before it escapes, thus ending round two and making it to round three.
"This game is pretty fun." El said.
"You like it?" Mike asked.
"Yeah." El said with a smile on her face as she continued to play the game.
Max walks over to Mike and El as she started to watch El play the game. She was impressed with her friend's progress.
"Holy shit. She's really good at this game. El, are you sure that this is your first time playing Dig Dug?" Max asked as El nods her head in response.
Lucas, Dustin and Will walked over to the machine to watch El as well.
"Holy shit." Dustin said.
"I know, that's what I said." Max said.
"Dude, you're girl is awesome at Dig Dug. In fact, she's so badass that she might beat Max's high score." Lucas said while he sips his can of Coke while Max glared at him. "What? She's good, but she's a beginner."
"So?" Max raised an eyebrow at Lucas.
"I'm just saying." Lucas said.
"Come on, guys. Let El have some fun. She's enjoying herself." Mike said as El continued to play the game.
"Mike." El said.
"Yeah?" Mike looked at El.
"Can we play this game… together?" El asked.
"Sure." Mike smiled at El. "Sure we can play together."
"Come on, you guys. Let's find a game to play and leave Mike and El alone together just so they can make out by the Dig Dug machine." Dustin said.
"We're not going to do that." El chuckled.
"Riiiiight." Lucas said as him and Dustin made kissing noises in front of El and Mike.
"Knock it off, assholes!" Mike exclaimed as Lucas and Dustin both laughed before walking away as well as Will and Max, leaving both El and Mike alone.
"But yeah, Max is right. You are pretty good at this game, you'll probably beat Max's high score." Mike said as El grinned at him.
"I have a very good teacher." El said. She turned to Mike and smiled at him before going back to the game while he continued to watch her play it. "Thanks for getting me out of the cabin. It felt pretty boring just sitting alone in there."
"You're welcome. I'm glad I got you out to have some fun with us and spend some time with me." Mike said.
"I'm glad too." El said as she smiled at Mike.
And another chapter is finished. I hope that you all enjoyed this cute little chapter. I hope that you enjoyed some of the little Mileven moments and some of the goofy moments from Lucas and Dustin. Next time on Eggos & Promises, El meets Mike's parents for the first time. How will that meeting turn out? Feel free to leave a review, add it to your favorites and follow it for future updates. Also, I would like to give a very special shout-out to the Mandalorian Terminator. I hope that you enjoy the chapter. Also, I would like to say congratulations to Millie and Jake on their engagement. We're all happy for you two and so am I. I'll see you guys next time. Till next time my fellow readers.
And now it's time for…
Let's Talk!
Boris Yeltsin: Glad that you like that chapter. The Friends bit popped in my head because that would be something that Dustin would do. Now, the idea about Mike and El's daughter inheriting El's powers sounds like an interesting idea.
the Mandalorian Terminator: Glad that you like the chapter. My laptop is working just fine. Hopefully you like the new chapter.
