Chapter 7:

The End Of The Island

Two hours later, waves of water roll and crash on the shorelines until Aladars' left front hoof lands on the rocks and climbs onto the shore as he breathes heavily. Aladar and his family exhaustedly hauled themselves onto the shore of the mainland as Aladar walked amongst the burning and nonburning sticks of the mainland. When he reached a much more stable spot, Aladar soon lies down on the ground completely exhausted as they made it to the mainland.

While Aladar tiredly rests on the ground, Half-Light gets off first and helps Chieftress Bright Circle and her sister Night Circle as Night Circle coughs heavily. The sisters did know a lot of things, but nothing in their long lives could have prepared them for this.

"Where are we?" Timid asked, shaking a little.

Aladar looks around and sees that all around them were small fires burning with many branches and trees down and smoke was being carried by the winds. Then he looked back behind himself and saw that a few miles away was the island he once called home engulfed in flames. A tear dropped from Aladar's face for the home he grew up in is gone.

Half-Light, her friends, the Crusaders, and the Chieftresses stared at the distant flaming island as well. The Crusaders ran over near Aladar and climbed onto a log as they called out to the island hoping for a response from any survivor.

But their calls went unanswered.

The Crusaders tried again as Aladar reared up on his back legs and bellows out to the island and waited.

Sadly, there wasn't any calls after as for the island was completely wiped out.

Sweet Pebble, Free Fall, and Tangerine started to cry for all the friends and families they lost.

"I feel bad." Sweet Pebble said quietly.

"I feel bad too." Free Fall said quietly too as Rareness, Sky Color, and Cinnamon walked over to their sisters.

"Me three." Tangerine said quietly as she and her friends turned to their sisters and instantly hugged them.

"Oh, Sweet Pebble. Easy, easy, there darling." Rareness said, stroking her sister's hair.

"They're all gone." Free Fall muttered to Sky Color as she cried.

"Shh, shh, easy there, squirt." Sky Color said, comforting her. Sky Color herself was close to crying.

"It's okay, Sugarcube. I'm still here," Cinnamon said as she held on to Tangerine as she whimpered.

"What do we do now?" Timid asked, tearfully as Half-Light placed an arm over her.

Looking about, Aladar knows that there could still be dangers lurking about.

"Come on, we can't stay here." Aladar said to his family. He knew they would have to find food and shelter.

"He's right. It's too dangerous for us to be here. We have to go," Bright Circle said in agreement. She had no idea where they could go, but it was obvious they couldn't stay here.

The Prehistoric Mane 6, the Crusaders, and Chieftress Night Circle knew that Aladar and Bright Circle are right. So as Aladar lowers down, the Crusaders were first to climb up and were followed by Half-Light and her friends and the Chieftresses. Once they all got on his back, Aladar stood back up again and stared at his old island home for the final time.

Then scattered cawing was heard and Aladar looked to see some Prehistoric Hippogriffs flying overhead, which have survived the destruction, and they appeared to be flying inland. So using them as a guide, Aladar turns and begins heading inland as he and his family began to trek across the flamed landscape as a few distant volcanoes were in the distance.
