Chapter 131: Sonic Family Beatdown - Part 3

Last time on Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic and his friends arrive in Spagonia in order to find the generator and Professor Pickle, but quickly find themselves caught in a trap set up by Jenni's Hive Mind, Thunderbolt the Chinchilla. However, thanks to Sonic's aunt, Aleena, he, Sonia, and Manik were able to escape the city trap and find an alternate way to get to the university. Now armed and ready face Thunderbolt, the group enter the university-turned-base to rescue their friends…

[Robotnik Mansion - Jenni's Throne]

*A clock ticks under the reinforced glass floor center of Jenni's throne room, the sisterly dictator continuing to sip her tea as she watches through various monitors as the heroes go about handling each of her generators. Specifically Sonic and his Werehog form. To her side, a maid bot comments on Jenni's intense stare.*

Maidbotnik: "Mistress. If you keep that face, it may freeze. It won't look good on you as the future ruler of Mobius."

Jenni: "And who asked you?"

Maidbotnik: "No one. I'm sorry for speaking out of line."

Jenni: "No no. You are right. I'm just studying this blue rat that my brother has claimed as his personal and most hated enemy. Sonic was able to keep his mind and most of his body intact despite becoming infected by Dark Gaia. Strange, is it not?"

*Jenni sips her tea before her maid poured her more of the drink.*

Jenni: "When Ivo commented, saying the Sonic is a chaotic variable, I can see why. His Chaos Energy was not only strong enough to endure Dark Gaia, but turn it into a power he can use against us. …And not only that, he has the other Gaia with him, complicating matters further."

Maidbotnik: "Shall we use it then?"

Jenni: "No. It's far too early for that. Timing, my maid. We set this plan up just perfectly… Even with this minor setback, we are still poised to take what we want. Of that, I can assure you."

*Jenni continued to watch the monitor Sonic was on as he and his siblings exit the sewers.*

[Spagonia University]

*Outside the university, Sonic and his family look upon the large building, the Werehog getting ready to knock…the doors off its hinges.*

Sonia: "So do you really think that twerp is keeping the city and our friends in there, Sonic?"

Sonic: "It's the one place she kept the most hidden. I say it's safe to assume that's the case."

Manik: "Then how about we get this party started then?"

*The hedgehogs smile at each other, ready to go all out as Sonic punches the doors off their hinges. Predictably, this causes the alarms to go off, much to Thunderbolt's panic.*

Thunderbolt: "What!? How did they get around my maze! N-No! They… They must've cheated! Egg Fighters! Egg Launchers! A-Attack! Destroy! Maim!"

Sonia: "Caught her with her pants down."

Aleena: "Now, how about we make like hedgehogs…and buzz on through?"

*The family of hedgehogs made quick work of the surprised and alerted robots. Sonic put his hands together as he slammed the ground hard, sending a shockwave that knocks the robots off balance. Manik and Sonia follow up as they both charge their respective abilities and let loose a powerful sound boom, scattering the robot parts around the foyer. As they celebrated their small victory, the base's security system turned on, blocking off access to the upstairs.*

Thunderbolt: "Hah! Take that you idiot hedge rodents! You won't be able to get to me now! So nyeh nyeh!"

Sonic: "Yeah, don't count your chickens till they hatch, Thunderbolt! Split up and search for anything acting as a power box!"

Family: "GOT IT!"

[Spagonia University - Security Office]

*Within the security office, Thunderbolt is berating some Egg Pawns wearing hard hats at their incompetence.*

Thunderbolt: "Idiots! Because of you, Sonic is now in the base! How could he get past my maze!?"

Egg Pawn A: "Perhaps through the sewers?"

Thunderbolt: "Why did you not put a security system in the sewers!?"

Egg Pawn B: "You said no one would be crazy to go through the sewers…"

Thunderbolt: "P-Pinning the blame on your superiors now!? G-Get dismantled immediately!"

*The Egg Pawns salute and head to the trash chute to get dismantled.*

Thunderbolt: "W-Wait! I meant after finishing my- URGH! I'M SURROUNDED BY IDIOTS! Fine! Bring it on, hedgehog! I'll destroy you and become Master Eggman's favorite Egg Boss!"

*Thunderbolt runs out of the room, completely ignoring Tails and Knuckles. The two smirk at each other as Tails slides closer to the electrical bars keeping them locked up.*

Knuckles: "Whatcha up to?"

Tails: "I'm going to get my wrists free by frying the rope on them. I'm making a gamble here but with just the right angle…"

*Tails inches closer to the electricity, being careful as he brings the rope close enough to get singed by the electrical current. Tails was freed after.*

Tails: "Got it! Now for you, Knuckles!"

*Tails gets Knuckles untied, allowing him to rub his wrists loose from being tied up for so long.*

Knuckles: "'Bout time. Now… It's time to make like a mole!"

*Knuckles raises a fist before…*

[Spagonia University - First Floor]

*Manik and Sonia were in one wing of the University as they fought more of Thunderbolt's security troops. Sonia uses her sound waves to stun the Egg Launchers, allowing Manik to slide under them. Once he was behind them, he placed his hands the robots and shocked them, disabling them.*

Manik: "Man! This is the kind of action I live for! Go team us!"

Sonia: "For once, I agree!"

*Sonia and Manik high five each other before running to the next corner. Sonia however pulls Manik back as missiles blast the corner, revealing an Egg Fighter holding some heavy weaponry.*

Sonia: "Too close…"

Manik: "That's putting it mildly… What do we do?"

*As Sonia thinks, she snaps her fingers as she finds some lights above the robot. She relays her plan to Manik, making him smile.*

Manik: "Let's do it!"

*Sonia jumps out, sticking her tongue out to get the robot's attention. The Egg Fighter preps another missile before firing, Sonia catching the missile in her sound pulses as Manik runs from the corner and slides under the missiles.*

Manik: "Eat flash bang, sucka!"

*Manik points a finger gun at the lights above the Egg Fighter, shooting a bright concentration of electrical energy into it. This causes a bright flash to occur, messing up the Egg Fighter's optical receptors. Before it knew it, it was hit by the missile it had launched at Sonia, destroying it. The two siblings smile before fist bumping.*

Sonia: "Nice one liner, Manik."

Manik: "And a very devilish plan from you. Now let's shut off that twerp's defenses!"

*The two enter the next room and find the generator to the security system. One quick jolt from Manik's glove was enough to shut the machine down, but not the whole security system. Of course, Sonic and Aleena were on the case in the other wing. Sonic was taking full advantage of his Werehog form and its stretching arms, pulling and tossing robots around while Aleena used her Mystic Melody to provide support and keep the gunner robots off the werehog.*

Sonic: "Morning's coming quick so I'll be my basic self soon. Oh well! I can kick butt either way!"

Aleena: "Oh this is exciting! Sonic, we really should make this our family outing, destroying robots and defeating Egg Bosses!"

Sonic: "Only if they're causing trouble, Aunt Aleena. I don't mind fighting Eggman, but I don't wanna bully the guy."

Aleena: "Oh! …Maybe you're right. I didn't even consider that."

Chip: "I can't tell if you just play dumb or if you are actually dumb, lady…"

*Aleena just smiles innocently as the trio head into the next room to find the other security generator, guarded by Egg Flames, which spewed flames at a constant rate. Sonic couldn't get close, but with a smirk, Aleena simply cleared her throat before letting out a single extended 'La~', which summoned a note bubble behind the Egg Flames, which exploded and destroyed the guards. Sonic runs up and delivers a hard punch, destroying the security generator and allowing the group to continue on once they gathered back at the foyer.*

Manik: "Generators out, electrical gates down, all we got is a chinchilla and whatever else she may throw-"

*A robot is thrown down the main stairs as Knuckles and Tails arrive, the red echidna having smoking fists from how hard a punch he delivered to the robot.*

Manik: "...at us…"

Sonic: "Knuckles! Tails! Good to see you two. What happened?"

Tails: "Long story short, a stealthy Buzzbomber shot us down with a stun shot after we split up. When we came to, we were already tied up and forced to hear that lady gloat about capturing us. It was…really annoying."

Knuckles: "Not like dealing with Eggman's ilk is ever pleasant."

Sonia: "Ain't that a fact. I'm guessing you dealt with what's up ahead?"

Knuckles: "That girl's first mistake: Thinking a cage can contain someone like me. Her second: Not hiring tougher guards."

Sonic: "We'll take that as a yes. Let's get going, everyone!"

Team Sonic: "RIGHT!"

[Spagonia University - Headmaster's Room]

*At the headmaster's room, the heroes entered, looking around the rather classy room, though with effigies of Eggman strewn about. In the center was none other than Thunderbolt, growling angrily as she saw Sonic and his friends.*

Thunderbolt: "Grrr… Dumb security and its dumb shortcomings! My plan was foolproof! No flaws! No cracks! Yet you still got through my perfect plan! How!?"

Sonic: "Eh. Dumb luck and maybe a little something called 'teamwork'. Something you shmucks won't ever learn."

Thunderbolt: "Silence you blue nuisance! I am Thunderbolt! I idolize Lord Eggman! My plan would have been approved by him no doubt! But you… You just had to come and ruin it all! Why don't you make like a puppy and roll over already!?"

Manik: "You're just salty because we found a way through your maze you little twerp!"

Sonia: "Give it up and maybe we'll go easy on you!"

Thunderbolt: "Easy?"

*Thunderbolt's scowl turned into a dement smile as she started to giggle, then full out laugh maniacally. Her eyes widen like something her mind cracked, showing just how crazy she was.*

Thunderbolt: "YOU REALLY SHOULDN'T UNDERESTIMATE MY GENIUS, SONIC!"

*Thunderbolt then pulled out a button from her pocket before pressing it. The roof above then caved in as a mech landed in, almost caving in the floor from the impact of the landing. Thunderbolt crawls into the cockpit as the glass lid closes. Her mech, looking very much like a typical humanoid mech that Eggman would use, began to generate electricity before slamming its fists onto the ground, sending the group of heroes out of the University with a single shockwave.*

[Spagonia - Outside the University]

*The heroes land outside, sliding back as they see Thunderbolt join them, an electrical barrier formed to protect her from damage.*

Thunderbolt: "Hahaha! You think you can touch my Chinchilbot with my electrical augmentations powering it!? Think again! But that's not all!"

*Thunderbolt presses a few buttons in her cockpit, causing a countdown to appear on the screens in the city.*

Thunderbolt: "In just ten minutes, this university and the people inside it will be sent to space! And the only thing that'll shut off the timer is destroying my Chinchilbot!"

Aleena: "Oh you have got to be kidding me…"

Sonic: "Alright… Then we'll just kick your butt quick then!"

*Knuckles and Manik go on the offense right away, Knuckles smashing the ground to create a fissure while Manik sends a current of electricity at the mech. Thunderbolt has the mech jump away from both attacks.*

Thunderbolt: "Hah! You think electricity is going to beat electricity? No wonder you're the idiot of the group!"

Sonia: "Oh he's an idiot alright. But he's not all stupid!"

*Sonia and Tails were above Thunderbolt, hovering as Sonia was charging energy into her gloves. Tails spins her around before tossing the girl hedgehog at the mech. Once she was close enough, Sonia let loose a massive sound pulse at the mech, sending it flying back to the ground at such speed that Thunderbolt felt extreme whiplash from the impact, on top of the ringing in her ears.*

Sonia: "All yours, bro!"

Manik: "Time to see how much of a shock your bot can handle!"

*Manik runs in and grabs onto the mech as Thunderbolt was still recovering, giving a massive shock to it. This overloads Thunderbolt's augmentations, ripping apart wires connecting her cybernetics. This also disables the use of the electrical barrier as well.*

Thunderbolt: "What!? NO! MY AUGMENTATIONS! MY CYBERNETICS! You… You are all dead now!"

*Manik is grabbed and slammed onto the ground before he's lifted and punched at Sonia, knocking her down. Tails summons an arm cannon before taking aim at the cockpit. But before he could take the shot, Thunderbolt turns one hand on her mech into a blaster and fires it at him. Tails dodges the blasts, running as quick as his tails could spin before ducking behind cover.*

Sonic: "Hey, Thunderbolt! Pick on someone your own size!"

*Sonic grabs Thunderbolt's mech and tosses it into the air, enabling Knuckles a chance to attack it. His punch connects, but only slightly cracks the metal, much to his shock. Thunderbolt recovers and slams a fist at the echidna, knocking him to the ground.*

Thunderbolt: "You'll find that the metal used on my mech is sturdier than common metals used on Badniks! You're running out of time, fools!"

*Thunderbolt gets ready to finish Knuckles, but then a slight explosion under the mech flings her over the echidna and onto the ground. Knuckles gets up and sees Aleena having sung a song.*

Aleena: "That one goes out to the homies of my nephew Sonic!"

Knuckles: "Thanks!"

*The sun starts to rise slowly, its rays hitting Sonic as he's finally forced back into his normal form. As if expecting this, he pulls out a new pair of gloves and shoes before prepping himself.*

Sonic: "Ah yeah. Now it's time for a Sonic Wind!"

*Sonic was quick to act as Thunderbolt was recovering, using a Homing Attack on the crack of where Knuckles landed his punch, knocking the mech into a wall as the hedgehog bounced off.*

Sonic: "Knuckles! Tails! You ready for a Team Attack!?"

Knuckles: "About time you asked!"

Tails: "Let's do it!"

*Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails got into position as they performed their Team Attack, Knuckles spinning Tails holding Sonic around before letting the two fly, Tails kicking Sonic, who then used the force to fly around at the mech and smash at its limbs, disassembling it piece by piece until just the torso and cockpit were left. Sonic sped at the torso, sending it into the air.*

Thunderbolt: "G-Gah!? M-My mech! No! How can this be!?"

Sonic: "Time to end this, Sonic Family Style!"

*Sonic, Sonia, Manik, and Aleena all charged up a Spin Dash, revving up energy before blasting together at Thunderbolt's mech, buzz sawing through what was left until Thunderbolt herself was sent flying from the impact as her mech's torso exploded.*

Thunderbolt: "Ugh… What a humiliating defeat… YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE LAST OF MEEEEEE!"

*Thunderbolt shrinks as the distance between her and the heroes grows before eventually a twinkle in the sky indicates her departure. The timer stops just short of two seconds as the heroes cheer and celebrate. The group go back into the University, soon finding the citizens and releasing them. As Sonia and Manik escort everyone outside, Sonic and Tails try to find the generator used to rip Mobius apart.*

[Spagonia University - Basement]

*In a small room in the basement of the University, Sonic and Tails find the generator they were looking for. And the Yellow Chaos Emerald powering it.*

Tails: "So it was just as Nicole said. The Chaos Emeralds are being used to power these generators. But… It seems the generator is…sending something…"

Sonic: "Sending something?"

Tails: "Yeah… But I'm not sure what… Perhaps… Energy to somewhere?"

Sonic: "If Jenni is like Eggman in anyway, that's likely her goal. Send energy to another place to power something. Which makes breaking this thing all that more important."

*Sonic wastes no time jumping onto the machine and breaking it. He takes the Chaos Emerald, smiling before tossing it around, it landing in Tails' hands. The two laugh before going outside.*

[Spagonia - Hot Dog Vendor]

*Sonic and the others celebrate their success at defeating Thunderbolt by eating some chili dogs. Talking to Professor Pickle did give a lot of insight into the Gaia Temples and their importance, but nothing on Chip and his mysterious past. But as Sonic enjoys his dog, he sees Aleena singing to herself and approaches her.*

Sonic: "So… I never got an answer before…"

Aleena: "About me coming back to Knothole to patch things up with Jules?"

Sonic: "The past is the past, right? Like… We should be allowed to walk our paths and forge our own futures… That's what Uncle Chuck told me."

Aleena: "Hmm… That does sound like Charles… I'll have to decline… At least for now… But…"

*Aleena turns to Sonic, pulling him into a soft embrace as she starts to tear up.*

Aleena: "I'll always be there for you, Sonic…"

Sonic: "...Thanks, Aunt Aleena… I know you will."

*The two share a smile toward each other before splitting off the hug and rejoining everyone in their celebration.*

[Robotnik Mansion - Jenni's Throne]

*Jenni was sitting at her throne, legs crossed as she listened to the report by Thunderbolt via video call, who had tears in her eyes.*

Thunderbolt: "A-And then… They destroyed my beautiful mech… I'm so sorry, Lady Jenni! I promise to destroy them next time! Soon, in fact! I'll destroy them very soon!"

Jenni: "Belay that thought, Thunderbolt. You have, in fact, done your part masterfully. What we lost is of little consequence to us. So return to base at once. That's an order."

Thunderbolt: "Wha…? Er! Y-Yes, ma'am! Right away!"

*The video call ends as Jenni herself smirks.*

Jenni: "We've already gotten what I wanted from the generator. And Sonic doesn't realize that he's already too far along my plan. Whether he realizes it or not, it shall not matter. Especially since the Chaos Emeralds are no longer on Mobius."

*Jenni lets out a giggle before laughing to herself, her laugh echoing as the scene fades away.*
